The Resistance by S.L. Scott

Summary:
You don’t choose when.
You don’t choose where.
And you don’t get to choose who you fall in love with.
The minute he opened his sexy mouth, Holliday Hughes should have known Jack Dalton was trouble. His smooth pickup lines, broad shoulders, and ridiculously handsome face charmed her right out of her clothes. She gave into her desires, the instant attraction blinding her to the obvious.
One night. That was all it took for Holliday’s world to be flipped on its axis. Jack Dalton was cocky. Smug. Volatile. Demanding. He ignited something deep inside her like no other, but there was something more to this brooding bad boy. There was a dark side to him she couldn’t help but be drawn to.
Torn between what she knew about him and a mysterious side he tried to hide, could she walk away or was he simply too hard to resist?

Excerpt:
 “Wait.” He reaches to the nightstand one more time and grabs his phone. Scrolling, he smiles when he finds what he’s looking for. With one push of the button, a song I’m all too familiar with begins. I know every word and every riff. “Stairway to Heaven” was the soundtrack to a lot of trouble I got into back in high school. “Led  Zeppelin?”

          With a smirk in place, he nods. “This is great fucking music.”

          “Great fucking music or great music for fucking?” I ask as his hands squeeze my breasts.

          “Both.” He lays back, his hands sliding up the outside of my thighs, and says, “Take me to that place that keeps you from getting jaded. That place where you find peace without the demons destroying everything you thought you wanted. Take me there.”

          Darkness fills his eyes, his gaze alluding to everything he doesn’t have to be any longer. I lift up and sink down on him, my hands pressed flat against his chest, wanting to smother the dark and cover it with light. Slowly rocking back and forth like the tempo calls for, his words lyrics to my ears, invading my thoughts. I drop my head back as his hands grab my hips, holding me down. The resistance causes inner turmoil as my insides begin to coil. Wanting more, my hands fall behind onto his legs, balancing me on top of him as we move against the other.

          I let my mind drift with the melody, the fullness of him overtaking all other feelings. The music builds and my body reacts to the rhythm he’s creating inside me. The song becomes our anthem, a soundtrack to our moans and heavy breaths.

          When I look down at him, his eyes are open, watching me, one hand roaming my body freely. The other caressing my tattooed skin.

          The song speaks of winding roads, shadows and souls… I’m flipped onto the mattress. Dalton’s inside me again, moving over me. Our bodies become slick with sweat, emotions begin swirling between us. Feelings that this could be more than just one night plant themselves like seeds in the depths of my mind.

Review:
I was pleasantly surprised with the direction this story took.  I was expecting to enjoy the book but I was also expecting the typical bad boy, drug addicted rocker meets good girl.  What I got was so much more.  I'm not one for spoilers so sometimes I find it very difficult to leave a very in depth review, and this is one of those times.
Both Jack and Holliday will surprise you, tug at your heart, and quite honestly they will both suck you in and even though you can't wait to find out how the story ends, you will not want to let them go with that last page.
I have a different opinion of angst versus drama, what many writers and readers term "angst" I only see "drama".  With that said, there is an amazingly even blend of angst/drama, romantic-comedy/flirty banter, extremely hot sex without becoming gratuitous smut, and of course HEA.  Although, who is to say what constitutes a HEA, as I said, I don't do spoilers.
If you've read Miss Scott before than you know that she definitely knows how to bring a story to life.  If you haven't read her before, this would be an excellent first foray with a new author.

Summary:
After years of living in the darkness of his past, Andrew Wise, a young attorney working for his family’s law firm in Sarasota, Florida, has finally broken free of the demons that haunt him. Wealth, success, happiness, and true love; everything a man could ever dream of, was right at his fingertips. Or so he thought. But in the blink of an eye, all of that changed. Upon discovering that his ex-girlfriend, Olivia Hamilton, was pregnant, Drew fell back into some old habits, which led to him losing the one person that mattered the most in his life - McKenzie Evans.
     When McKenzie left him and returned to Texas, Drew was beside himself. The night before she left, he made an agreement with her best friend Jared Christopher, that he would give her time and space to come to grips with the fact that he’d fathered her best friend’s child. Now, two months later, he feels as though he held up his end of the bargain, Drew can’t take their separation any longer. With his brother’s wedding mere weeks away, Drew devises a plan to win McKenzie back.
     Under the guise of a bachelor getaway for Gavin, Drew, along with his brother and Jared, jets off on an adventure to the panhandle of Texas. There, he will learn what made McKenzie who she is and will find strength within himself that he never realized existed.
     In this charming sequel to The Truth in Lies, Drew and McKenzie discover that not everything is as it seems, forgiveness is a matter of acceptance, and true love really can conquer all.

Gangster Country by Kade Boehme

Summary:
Logan Marshall moves to New York to be a social worker where he feels he's needed most. Logan's always had it good. His Daddy is a preacher, sure, but he preaches a laid back, tolerant congregation who accepted Logan's sexuality gracefully. He's from a ranch in nowhere, Texas, which makes him a hot ticket in the clubs with his tight, work strengthened body and his cute accent. He's out of his element in New York, not looking for Mr. Right Now but Mr. Right.

Gianni Rodriguez grew up in Brooklyn. Nothing could be further from the way he was raised than innocent, good hearted Logan was. Gianni is fascinated that people like Logan even exist. And parents that not only are God-fearing, but also accepting?

As second in command of Los Cuervos, his brother's not-so-merry band of drug runners and pimps, Gianni's life would be in serious jeopardy if anyone ever knew the truth. That's why his growing attachment for Logan is a bad thing.

When Logan's work collides violently with Gianni's life, Gianni has to decide if the man is worth risking everything, even his family-- the man that may not even want him once he realizes what a monster the man he's been sleeping with really is. Could Logan be Gianni's reason to go straight? Or will they both go straight to an unmarked grave?

Review:
I'm going to start out saying, "WOW!!"  This story hooked me in more than I ever expected it would.  From the summary I was expecting an interesting tale of  love between polar opposites, what I got was so much more than that.
You can't help but fall hard for both Logan and Gianni, thru their words, actions, and inner monologues.  They burrowed their way into your heart and just stayed there.  You go in wanting to hate Gianni but boy does he spark other emotions real quick.
This was an easy read, and that's not an insult to the author, I found myself reading and reading and before I knew it, I only had a few pages left.  I'm eager to check out other stories by this author.

Kade Boehme is a southern boy without the charm, but all the sass. Currently residing in Seattle, he lives off of ramen noodles and too much booze.
He is "the epitomy of dorkdom", only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. (That'd be Orioles, Seahawks, Ravens, or Gators.) Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.
It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class.
He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

All She Wrote (Holmes & Moriarity #2) by Josh Lanyon

Summary:
A murderous fall down icy stairs is nearly the death of Anna Hitchcock, the much-beloved American Agatha Christie and Christopher Holmes s former mentor. Anna s plea for him to host her annual winter writing retreat touches all Kit s sore spots traveling, teaching writing classes, and separation from his new lover, J.X. Moriarity.

For J.X., Kit s cancellation of yet another romantic weekend is the death knell of a relationship that has been limping along for months. But that s just as well, right? Kit isn't ready for anything serious and besides, Kit owes Anna far too much to refuse.

Faster than you can say Miss Marple wears boxer shorts, Kit is snooping around Anna s elegant, snowbound mansion in the Berkshires for clues as to who s trying to kill her. A tough task with six amateur sleuths underfoot. Six budding writers with a tangled web of dark undercurrents running among them.

Slowly, Kit gets the uneasy feeling that the secret may lie between the pages of someone s fictional past. Unfortunately, a clever killer is one step ahead. And it may be too late for J.X. to ride to the rescue. Warning: Contains one irascible, forty-year-old mystery writer who desperately needs to get laid, one exasperated thirty-something ex-cop only too happy to oblige, an isolated country manor that needs the thermostat cranked up, various assorted aspiring and perspiring authors, and a merciless killer who may have read one too many mystery novels.

Review:
As much as I enjoyed the first one in this series, this one surpassed what I was expecting.  I still don't think it matches the author's work in the Dangerous Ground or Adrien English series but I definitely found myself getting sucked into the story and the characters.
Once again there wasn't any characters that left you balancing on the fence of love or hate, you definitely either loved or hated them.  The mystery again was quite enjoyable to try and figure out, not only who could it be but whether there was actually a crime happening.
We also get to see the relationship between Holmes and Moriarity give and take.  Trust me, it does definitely give and take in some of the best ways possible and certainly in some of the most surprising ways for both men.  Christopher Holmes finds himself not only facing but wanting aspects of a relationship he never expected or dreamed of for himself.

Will Remy be able to fill the void left by the loss if his best friend? Or will this new chance at love cost them all they have left?

Excerpt:
July 17th, 2007
Carter
I tried to be the strong one, but today hurt every bone, muscle and brain cell in my body. Without her by my side, life was painful. For years, she had been the sun in my days, the one I was looking for in the darkness. She was my light, my love and inspiration. My reason to stay alive. We were always together before I joined Special Forces. During our last deployment, we were lucky to be working together as a team and we both enjoyed it. I knew her better than I knew myself and while we worked jointly, I saw who she was and how strong and dedicated she had become. Her pride over serving in the Army was beyond most men. Her determination was astounding, she'd faced death, survived to my abject relief and still stayed the fighter she's always been. Her injuries and pain didn’t make her weak, she'd become stronger and fought against her fears.
I sat in the plane next to Remy. We had left a little over two hours ago and I could still feel her sadness, as if it was attached to my heart. Remy was also feeling blue, as he considered Avery to be like a sister. I hated that I was the reason behind her sadness. I held back the tears as long as I could, but mid-way to our destination, it overwhelmed me and I gave up.
"Fuck.... Fuck... I hate this!" I yelled. I regretted leaving her. I should have requested a release at the same time as she did. This was a fucking nightmare. "I should be home with her, Remy. We could be starting a family like we want. I shouldn’t have come... I shouldn’t have." Each word, every memory of our conversations about the future hurt, kicking me in the chest because I wanted them now. Every minute away from her was a waste of our time.
"Cart, man, relax." Remy squeezed my shoulder with a strong hand. "This, the Army, is our life, you can't go back now. We'll do this and go back home like we always do. A couple of months won't change anything in the end. She loves you like crazy and you love her even more." He paused. "Look, we can do this. It’s hard now because you just left her. Even I'm sad. I'll miss her too but it's what we do, man, we are Special Forces. We leave and we come back stronger. We fight for what's right. We have a job to get done now. Focus on that."
"Being away from her is different this time. It's not that I don't like it, I hate it. It shouldn’t be like this. We had the best times of our lives these past few days. She was glowing, she was smiling like she used to, before the bombing. I felt like she was finally back with me, with us."
"I saw it too. She was different, happy." He smiled. "It's all you, Carter. You were able to make her the happiest bride, even though she knew you were leaving. Use that to motivate yourself. We'll be back before we know it."
"Thanks, bro." I dried my tears on the sleeve of my shirt. I was still angry at myself but he was right. She was happy again. I had to focus on that and come back home as soon as possible. She was my life now. Everything I am or own, is hers.
''I want you to tell me how you feel while you are away. Write me or call me as much as you can.'' I grabbed my backpack and opened the front pocket to find my pen and paper.
Avery,
I haven't arrived at our destination yet, and I’m already writing because I'm thinking about you. I miss you. I can't stop seeing your smile and beauty in my mind.
Thank you for the pictures, I'll keep the one of you in your wedding dress with me all the time. Except when I'm in the shower, of course.
I’ve been wanting to tell you how amazing and beautiful you are. Your smiles are back, the ones that made me fall in love with you years ago. The smiles that reach your eyes and the smiles when you bite your lower lip. I loved the way you blushed when you walked down the aisle. You took my heart at that moment and stole it. You are the one who owns it, take care of it. My heart is nothing without you.
I will be back to you soon and we'll start our family. We could even buy a dog or a cat and move to a different city. Somewhere by the beach or in the country. Anything baby, just say it and you'll have it.
I love you my shining star, more than you'll ever know.
Carter
Kisses and hugs
I placed the letter in an envelope and addressed it. I wanted her to receive it soon, as I knew the waiting would be hard for Avery. I was planning to write to her every day or every other day.
Remy had fallen asleep and I wondered how life was for him. He was single, I'd never seen him serious about a girl before. He flirted here and there but he never talked about any girl in particular, or suggested he hoped to meet 'the one'. Never. As far as I knew, he didn't plan to stay in the Army forever and I always assumed he would eventually try to settle down with someone. I feared the loneliness he must sometimes feel. It was probably hard for him to see Avery and me so happy together. I wanted him to be happy too. He deserved to be.
I couldn’t force him into anything but maybe I could talk to him about dating.
~~~*~~~
We finally made it to the camp. It looked the same as the last one. I had to try and stop imagining Avery everywhere. I was ridiculously obsessed with my wife. She was safe at home and this was the right thing for her, for both of us. While we were getting installed, the guys were talking about our wedding and were really cool about it. Most of them were married and already fathers. Some of them even asked me to show them my ring. That was just weird, wasn't it something girls do? The ring was simple, white gold with two small diamonds. We chose it together, the diamonds representing us. Avery's ring was as simple as mine, she'd never been the type of girl who wanted huge diamonds. I was ready to buy her the biggest diamond I could afford but she'd refused and went for something small and modest. It represented her after all.
As soon as we got on camp, we started doing some work in settling in and we discovered issues. And to make everything worse, the internet was not working properly. We had security issues and couldn't use it for personal requirements. That meant no emailing and Avery was probably going to lose it in Fort Bragg. I had to make sure my letter got to her as soon as possible. I could try to call her, I would love to hear her voice. In the Special Forces, it only happened rarely that we had to deal with communication problems since it was one of our most important tool.
Finally, I located my bunk bed, I placed my backpack next to it and put the envelope containing the pictures under the thin blanket. I retrieved Avery's picture from my front pocket and looked at her for a few seconds. Her pale blond hair was piled on top of her head, in elaborate curls. She was gorgeous. Her gown was showing just enough skin, and kissed all of her curves. I was a proud man, and knew I was lucky that she picked me.
Today was my first day away but on the bright side, I was one day closer to seeing her again.
That was my main focus.
Somebody Killed His Editor (Holmes & Moriarity #1) by Josh Lanyon
Summary:
Thanks to an elderly spinster sleuth and her ingenious cat, Christopher Holmes has enjoyed a celebrated career as a bestselling mystery writer. Until now. Sales are down and his new editor is allergic to geriatric gumshoes.
On the advice of his agent, he reinvents his fortyish, frumpy, recently dumped self into the sleek, sexy image of a literary lion, and heads for a Northern California writers conference to try and resurrect his career. A career nearly as dead as the body he stumbles over in the woods.
In a weirdly dรฉjร  vu replay of one of his own novels, he finds himself stranded in an isolated lodge full of frightened women—and not a lawman in sight. Except for J.X. Moriarity, former cop and bestselling novelist. The man with whom he shared a one-night stand—okay, maybe three—long ago. The man who wants to arrest him for murder.
A ruthless, stalking killer, or a hot, handsome ex-lover. Which poses the greater danger? It’s elementary, my dear Holmes!
Review:
The characters were interesting and they were very easy to either love or hate, there really was no middle line but that was okay because it worked perfectly for the genre and the setting.   Christopher Holmes is your everyday kind of guy that you really can't help but love.  I couldn't help but love others  even though  you're never quite sure who is guilty or another possible victim.
I won't deny that I was a little disappointed in that it wasn't as enjoyable a read as the author's Adrien English or Dangerous Ground series but that by no way took away from the story.  I found myself still captivated by the characters and couldn't wait to find out what happened on every page.  The author, as always, is still among my favorites and cannot wait to start the next in this series, which I will be doing tonight.
Ball and Chain (Cut & Run #8) by Abigail Roux
Summary:
Home from their unexpected deployment, the former members of Marine Force Recon team Sidewinder rejoin their loved ones and try to pick up the pieces of the lives they were forced to leave behind. Ty Grady comes home to Zane Garrett, only to find that everything around him has changed—even the men he went to war with. He barely has time to adjust before his brother, Deuce, asks Ty to be his best man. But that isn’t all Deuce asks Ty to do, and Ty must call for backup to deal with the business issues of Deuce’s future father-in-law.
Nick O’Flaherty and Kelly Abbott join Ty and Zane at the wedding on an island in Scotland, thinking they’re there to assuage Deuce’s paranoia. But when bodies start dropping and boats start sinking, the four men get more involved with the festivities than they’d ever planned to.
With the clock ticking and the killer just as stuck on the isolated island as they are, Ty and Zane must navigate a veritable minefield of family, friends, and foes to stop the whole island from being destroyed.
Review:
I'm already having withdrawal symptoms now that I've got all 8 books read.  Ty and Zane really grab hold of your heart and you don't want to ever let them go.
Being joined by Nick & Kelly only added to the amazing appeal and intrigue of their latest adventure.  Once again, the mystery seems to find the boys even at a family wedding.  Ty and Zane knew there was a little something that needed their special brand of attention going in but never expected it to become what it does.
There's still some emotional fallout from Touch & Geaux between Ty and Nick, and even though it's heartbreaking at times, it was definitely necessary for the believable evolution of their friendship.
Touch and Geaux (Cut & Run #7) by Abigail Roux
Summary:
After having their faces plastered across the news during a high-profile case, FBI Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have become more useful to the Bureau posing for photo ops than working undercover. Just as Zane is beginning to consider retirement a viable option, Ty receives a distress call from a friend, leading them to a city rife with echoes from the past.
New Orleans wears its history on its streets, and it’s the one place Ty’s face could get him killed. Surrounded by trouble as soon as they land, Ty and Zane are swiftly confronted with a past from which Ty can’t hide—one with a surprising connection to Zane’s.
As threats close in from all directions, both men must come to terms with the lives they’ve led and the lies they’ve told. They soon discover that not all their secrets are out yet, and nothing lasts forever.
Review:
Can I just start by saying "WOW!"  As usual I am completely blown away with Ty and Zane but I have to admit this one had something extra special that really puts the reader through an emotional ringer.
We learn a few things about both of the men's pasts through truthful flashback storytelling.  Unfortunately, a couple of those revelations threaten the peaceful relationship between the partners that just might be unfixable.   My heart was breaking as these truths came to light as I could understand both sides of the wall that was being built between Ty and Zane.
Since I don't do spoilers all I'll say is that I immediately purchased book number eight and started reading it right away.
Cover Reveal for Re-release of Second Chances by NJ Cole
Summary:
Calla Moretti married her college sweetheart, Bill.  Married life was great at first, but as his career had her dropping out of college and moving away from her family and friends, Calla struggled with her role as a wife and homemaker.  Stress, due to infertility and Bill's affairs, had the marriage on the brink of failure.  When she drives home in the middle of a thunderstorm and spots first a broken down motorcycle, then the sexy rider, she decides to take a chance and offer him assistance.  Realizing fate brought her together with a man who could give her the one thing her husband couldn't -- a baby -- Calla decides to take a chance.
One romantic night, one big lie, will it save her marriage or fill her heart wit more emptiness?  Will this be the answer to her prayers?  In life, are there truly second chances?
Excerpt:
Staring into my eyes, he lowered his head.  I could have moved, spoken, coughed . . . anything, but instead I lifted my chin and allowed him to kiss me.
At first it was chaste, it really was, but when I didn't pull away, he didn't either.  I felt his tongue poke from between his velvet lips and lick over my lower one.  I gasped, and he used that opportunity to find his way into my mouth.  As my body began to shake, I groaned.  I had to stop this.  If I didn't, I'd end up having sex with him -- a total stranger.  I knew that because I was ovulating, if I did sleep with him, there was a good chance that I'd become pregnant.
I'd become pregnant.
I had stiffened up at my epiphany, causing him to pull back.  "Oh, shit.  I'm sorry.  I shouldn't have done that."
My mind was racing with the possibility of becoming pregnant tonight.  I could go home to Bill in the morning and he and I could have sex.  He'd think the baby was his, and maybe it would be, I reasoned with myself.  He'd never know and our marriage would be fixed.
Stars and Stripes (Cut & Run #6) by Abigail Roux
Summary:
Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have managed the impossible: a few months of peace and quiet. After nearly a year of personal and professional turmoil, they're living together conflict-free, work is going smoothly, and they're both happy, healthy, and home every night before dark. But anyone who knows them knows that can’t possibly last.
When an emergency call from home upsets the balance of their carefully arranged world, Ty and Zane must juggle family drama with a perplexing crime to save a helpless victim before time runs out.
From the mountains of West Virginia to a remote Texas horse ranch harboring more than just livestock and childhood memories, Ty and Zane must face their fears—and their families—to overcome an unlikely enemy and bring peace back into their newly shared world.
Review:
Seeing both Ty and Zane in their family environments certainly give some hints to the whys and hows to some of their unique and intriguing personality traits.  As you know I don't give spoilers but I have to admit, I do not like Zane's mother but I sure love his dad and sister.  As for Ty's family, we met them in Sticks & Stones, and I wasn't real fond of his grandfather or his father to be honest, but they certainly redeemed themselves in my eyes in this story.
They both have a chance to see not only the kind of atmosphere the other grew up in but also, they are given a chance to be open about their relationship.  I can't imagine how difficult it will be for them to go back to Baltimore and have to hide again.
Armed and Dangerous (Cut & Run #5) by Abigail Roux
Summary:
Left alone in Baltimore after his unpredictable lover bails, Special Agent Zane Garrett takes his frustration out on everything in his path until he is ordered to Chicago to back up an undercover operative. When he gets there, though, he finds himself face to face with his wayward partner, Special Agent Ty Grady. They have to deal with the uncertainty lingering between them while they work to retrieve their intended mark, a retired hit man and CIA wet-works operative named Julian Cross.
Ty, once a marine and now an FBI hotshot, has a penchant for being unpredictable, a trait Zane can vouch for. Zane is a man who once lived for his job but has come to realize his heartbreaking past doesn’t have to overshadow his future. They're partners, friends, lovers, and the go-to team for unusual cases. With Cross and his innocuous boyfriend, Cameron Jacobs, in tow, Ty and Zane must navigate the obstacles of a cross-country trek, including TSA pat-downs, blizzards, their uncooperative prisoners, CIA kill teams, a desperate lack of sleep or caffeine, and each other. Ty and Zane are determined to get Julian Cross to DC in one piece, but it’s starting to look like it might be the last thing they do.
Review:
The author's first solo entry in the C&R series is a hit, in my honest opinion.  I have to be honest, if I had been given this series with no author names and information, I really don't think I would have noticed the difference.
When Ty and Zane are told to bring Julian Cross in, they have no idea what they will be facing.  If you thought Ty and Zane had an interesting beginning, wait till you read how Ty and Julian get along.  When you throw in Julian's boyfriend, Cameron, who he insists come along, you have these four running the gamut of emotions and insults that you never knew could happen in one book.
The passion between Ty and Zane is as usual, extremely hot and incredibly loving.  Now that they've decided to be completely open and honest with each other, I can't wait to see how they are able to handle all the truths as time goes forward.
At Their Service by Isla Munro
Summary:
Can a prince, a maid, and a valet live happily ever after?
Forced to be a maid to her family, nursemaid to her birth-mother, and slave to her step-mother, the only high point in Drella’s life is a new job at the palace. She will get to meet the handsome Prince Abran. However, Drella is not expecting to be attracted to both the prince and his valet. The equally handsome Oshan invites Drella to enjoy a night of passion with both men…all three of them together. Can Drella put the messy relationship between her own four parents aside and accept the love offered by a prince and his valet?
Prince Abran is heir to the throne of Erotania. He loves his country and he loves his valet, Oshan. But his passionate relationship with the manservant cannot produce his own heir. In a culture where family groups consist of up to four bi-sexual adults and their offspring, it’s not much of a leap to bring a woman into their bed chamber. But what woman will be acceptable to his mother, attracted to both men, and willing to put up with his arrogance?
Oshan loves his master and knows he needs an heir. When Drella starts work in the palace, he can tell that Abran is attracted to the pretty maid. But Drella has her own challenges to face. Can Oshan and the man he loves discover Drella’s demons and help her fight them? And can a prince, a valet, and a maid defy the impossible and find their very own happily ever after?
Excerpt:
“Hi, Drella.”
“Hi.” Her voice was a mere whisper, and she looked as if she wanted to be anywhere but speaking to him.
“Hello. I’m Clara.” The human girl shoved her hand toward him. He took it and smiled at her. It still seemed strange to shake hands with someone he had just met. The custom on Threni was to bow to new acquaintances.
“It’s lovely to meet you, Clara. Do you mind if I take Drella outside to speak to her privately? We won’t be long.” He could see Drella out of the corner of his eye shaking her head, a mutinous look on her face.
“Not at all. I would never stop her from talking to such a handsome man.” She fluttered her eyelashes. “And if she says no, please feel free to come and make your offer to me.” Her eyes were bright and sparkled with mischief—she was clearly joking.
“Please, Drella.” He turned his most pleading expression on her, and her mutinous look crumbled.
“OK,” she conceded, and got up, and marched out of the bar. Once outside, he took her gently by the arm and guided her to the quiet alleyway.
“What do you want?” She leaned against the wall and looked over his shoulder.
“I wanted to apologize if the prince or I embarrassed you today. He feels very bad about spying on us.”
“We were in the prince’s shower area. And besides, I spied on you.”
“The prince doesn’t mind that you were watching us. In fact, he’s quite turned on by it.” Oshan brought his hand up to cup her cheek, and she leaned into the caress. He breathed a sigh of relief. He was not being rejected. “He would like you to be involved next time. And so would I.”
“Involved?”
“Yes, Drella. We both want you. We discussed it. Since we got together there has only been the two of us. But we like you and we both want you.”
She was wide-eyed again, which only made her more appealing. Her mouth opened slightly in surprise, and he couldn’t help himself. He leaned forward and ran his tongue along her lower lip. She tentatively touched his tongue with her own and placed her hand at his nape. He captured her lips fully. After a few moments, he drew away and raised an eyebrow at her.
“I’m with Clara,” she said as if it was some kind of explanation.
“It doesn’t have to be tonight.” She nodded in understanding. “What about tomorrow night?”
“I have to go home from work and make dinner, but I could come back to the palace afterward.”
“Dinner? Do you already have children?”
“No. It’s for my parents and siblings.”
“Can they not get their own dinner?”
“It’s a complicated situation.” Her shoulders sagged slightly and some of the glow left her gaze. She looked tired. What exactly was her situation that she had to make her grown-up family dinner?
“Very well. After dinner. Come up to the palace. You can use your pass to get in. If anyone asks, say Prince Abran has asked to see you. No one will ask any questions.”
Character Bios:
Abran – Crown Prince of Erotania
Abran is the only son of the King and Queen of Erotania – a Kingdom on the planet Threni. He has had every privilege: a good education, plenty of money and possessions – everything a kid could want. Now as an adult, he has his valet Oshan. His mother, Queen Emba believes he needs and heir and to beget an heir he and Oshan need to open up their spousal unit to a female. Like all Threni adults, he’s bisexual , so when he meets Drella, he believes she may very well be the one to complete his relationship with his valet.
Oshan – Valet to the Crown Prince
Oshan has had humble beginnings. He has managed to work his way up to being valet to Abran, Crown Prince of Erotania. He is practical and loving and regularly has to encourage the headstrong prince to do the right thing. Oshan loves Abran with a fierce loyalty and is more than willing to share him in order to fulfil Abran’s duties. When he meets Drella he is instantly attracted to her and knows that Abran is too. But he must be the go-between to bring her to the prince and reassure her that her station in life is immaterial.
Drella – Maid in the palace at Erotania and in her own home.
Drella has grown up with two mothers and two fathers in the usual Threni household (four bisexual adults make up one spousal unit along with any children). But with her birth mother ill, her fathers too wrapped up in each other and her “step” mother, Breda, bitter from loneliness, Drella seems to have drawn the short straw. She is maid, nurse and slave to her ungrateful relatives. Having given up the chance of further education, she has worked her way up in menial jobs until at last she gets a job at the palace. She even gets to make the sexy prince’s bed. But having seen the way her father’s act, she’s not so keen to turn out bitter and twisted like Breda. Can the Prince and his valet convince her that they won’t shut her out and that their relationship with her is as important as their relationship with each other?
Review:
As a fan of science fiction, I could have used more of the genre in this story.  That being said, I found this story to be an interesting and very scintillating read.  As a fan of erotica, I was more than rewarded by this story.  It's not often that you can find a decent blend of science fiction and erotica, but this author has managed it quite well.  The characters are intriguing and the relationships between Abran, Oshan, and Drella are refreshing.  Building a believable and equal connection between three characters is not an easy task and yet that's exactly what we get in this mรฉnage.
Isla lives in tiny cottage in the wilds of Scotland. She loves history, sci-fi, romance and coffee. She is also passionate about music but has never put enough effort into learning a musical instrument properly.
She has always made up stories in her head or imagined the worst case scenarios whenever mildly dramatic events happen. She has always been told she had too vivid an imagination. Since she has discovered novel writing, she has thoroughly enjoyed putting that imagination to the test.
