Friday's Film Adaption: Ann Vickers by Sinclair Lewis

Summary:
Some reviewers were outraged by Ann Vickers when it first appeared in 1933. "Persons unused to horrid and filthy things had better stay at a safe distance from this book," wrote one. Lewis's Ann Vickers is a complex character: a strong-minded prison superintendent dedicated to enlightened social reform, she also seeks to fulfill herself as a sexual being. Ann Vickers is in all respects her own person, standing up to the confining rules of her society.

Author Bio:
Sinclair Lewis was born in 1885 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and graduated from Yale University in 1908. His college career was interrupted by various part-time occupations, including a period working at the Helicon Home Colony, Upton Sinclair's socialist experiment in New Jersey. He worked for some years as a free lance editor and journalist, during which time he published several minor novels. But with the publication of Main Street (1920), which sold half a million copies, he achieved wide recognition. This was followed by the two novels considered by many to be his finest, Babbitt (1922) and Arrowsmith (1925), which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1926, but declined by Lewis. In 1930, following Elmer Gantry (1927) and Dodsworth (1929), Sinclair Lewis became the first American author to be awarded the Nobel Prize for distinction in world literature. This was the apogee of his literary career, and in the period from Ann Vickers (1933) to the posthumously published World So Wide (1951) Lewis wrote ten novels that reveal the progressive decline of his creative powers. From Main Street to Stockholm, a collection of his letters, was published in 1952, and The Man from Main Street, a collection of essays, in 1953. During his last years Sinclair Lewis wandered extensively in Europe, and after his death in Rome in 1951 his ashes were returned to his birthplace.

Sale Blitz: The Complete Divine Trilogy by RE Hargrave

Title: The Divine Trilogy
Author: RE Hargrave
Genre: BDSM Erotic Romance
Release Date: August 23, 2015
Length: 255k words/754 pages Trade Paperback
Cover Designs: JC Clarke of The Graphics Shed

Summary:
An erotic read meant for adults, The Divine Trilogy is not your typical romance.

When you first meet Catherine and Jayden they aren’t looking for love at all. Catherine O’Chancey is a young submissive whose second Dom turned out to be an abusive fake. This is the story of her subsequent recovery and reentry into the BDSM lifestyle with the help of a new Dominant, Jayden Masterson. Come with me, and I’ll take you on the journey alongside Catherine and Jayden while their bond grows and deepens. It’ll be sexy and intense, but never fear, you get to be there to see the tender side of her new Dom as he helps her through her past tragedies.

The Divine Trilogy offers a different view of the BDSM world.

One that will enlighten readers and show them that those who live this Lifestyle often do so because it is a deep-seated need within their psyche, something that can't be ignored. And that need is okay because, when practiced properly, BDSM is all about being Safe, Sane, and Consensual. Find within the pages a sampling of the different dynamics which can occur amongst kinksters. Everything from hardcore pain sluts to docile “littles” who want to be pampered and coddled, but the important thing to remember is that everyone has a place of acceptance, without judgement, in this Lifestyle.

Time and again reviewers have said they couldn’t put this book down . . . even when they don’t usually read this genre.
A Divine Life #2
Off to the side, the camera clicked and whirred.

In a subconscious gesture, Catherine licked her lips while the concept of what they were doing settled into her head. She could do this; she could even have fun with it.

Faint sounds could be heard while Shawn moved around her, and the wanton female felt the wetness starting to seep between her thighs. She leaned further back into the hammock, locking her fingers in the net to test and make sure she wasn’t going to flip herself out of it.

The snapping shutter captured her pose.

In an attempt to achieve some friction, Catherine allowed her thighs a discreet rub against each other. In such a short amount of time, she had become quite turned on, surprising herself.

That’s why you’re an exhibitionist, Erin.

“You’re doing great, doll. Now, take your hands and roam them along your body the way your Master would,” Shawn said softly.

A breath caught in her throat at his words. Could she do this? Of course she could—and she would for her Master. Bringing her trembling hands to her knees, she started running them up her body, feeling the skirt gather and lift as she did.

Fast and furious, the camera’s sounds broke through the chirping birds.

A hiss escaped her when her fingers came in contact with the fresh ink, and it soon turned into a needy moan. Another click told her Shawn wanted to preserve everything. Her self-perusal continued until she was cupping her breasts through the transparent material. To be naked at that moment would have been heaven.

More pictures were taken while Catherine gave her breasts a gentle squeeze, and then took the rings between her fingers and pulled. Her wet lips fell open in a silent moan.

“That’s it, doll; let go. Enjoy that lingering touch. Tease yourself,” Shawn coaxed.

One hand kept tugging on a ring while she ran the other up over her chest to her neck, where Catherine fingered the paddle on her collar. A single click hit her ears before a momentary shift of the breeze carried that delicious musk and spice scent from earlier to Catherine’s olfactory lobe. Her heart rate picked up, and she sucked a finger into her mouth.

Shawn continued snapping the pictures and giving her verbal cues, and all too soon, the breeze shifted again, taking the scent with it. Catherine missed it at once without understanding why. Taking her now-wet finger, she slipped it under her blouse and began rubbing her thick nipple.

“Work your skirt up for me further, doll. Does that finger feel good?”

“Mmhmm,” the amateur model moaned and kept rubbing her nipple, adding in a light pinch while her free hand found the bottom of the skirt. Slow and steady, she inched the material higher, exposing her pale skin.

Several more images were saved to the memory card.

“Good girl. Part your legs; let your Master see you glisten.”

 WHAT AMAZON REVIEWERS ARE SAYING:
"The relationship between these two dynamic characters is one I love to revisit time and again."

"This series is phenomenal!"

"The Divine Trilogy by Ms. Hargrave is one of my favorite BDSM series on the market."

What I Am Saying:
Throughout the series, we've seen Catherine blossom but in Surreal, she becomes the Rose Parade.  We are always learning and growing in life and this is a great example of how even Jayden, who is so confident in his role as Dom, can still be taught a few things.  If you're looking for a true story that involves the BDSM lifestyle, than this is the one for you.  In my opinion, 50 Shades doesn't hold a candle to RE Hargrave's Divine Trilogy. ~ Heather York, Padme's Library

RATING:

Author Bio:
R.E. Hargrave lives on the outskirts of Dallas, TX where she prides herself on being a domestic engineer. Married to her high school sweetheart, together they are raising three children from elementary age to college age. She is an avid reader, a sometimes quilter and now, a writer. Other hobbies include gardening and a love of a music.

A native 'mutt,' Hargrave has lived in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, and California. She is fond of setting her stories on location in South Carolina and Texas, but its anybody's guess as to what the genre will be!

At what point in your life did you realize that you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I started writing seriously when I found out I was pregnant.  I wanted to document everything about my experience and it ended up growing into a big beast after a while.  My style had always mostly been satirical and funny.  I found I was pretty good at telling short stories, so I wanted to try for a longer one and one that wasn’t a comedy.

Who is your favorite character in Soldiers of the Craft? And why?
I love Farrell…he’s an a**hole and yet I know, as a reader, there’s something mysterious and possibly wonderful about him that hasn’t yet been discovered or revealed.

In Soldiers of the Craft, the main character Deandra is a witch. If you could cast any spell, what would it be/do?
I would want to fly, for sure.

Where did you get the idea to write Soldiers of the Craft?
I was sleeping and had a dream that I was with a group of friends running a way from something that was chasing us in a cemetery at night. We couldn’t get out until I grabbed the iron bars and they disintegrated…I woke up and thought, “Wouldn’t that be awesome?!”

If Soldiers of the Craft gets made into a movie, who would you like to see play Deandra and Donovan?
When I originally pictured Donovan, it was Paul Walker.  Deandra was Jennifer Connely.

Where are we most likely to find you writing?
You’ll most likely find me in a local coffee shop with my ear buds in, sipping on a salted caramel mocha.

What’s the most discouraging thing that happened while trying to write/publish, and how did you get over it?
The most discouraging thing that happened while going through the writing/publishing process was realizing how LONG I’d made my book and how much fat I needed to trim.  I personally edited it at least 20 times before handing it over to my editor to clean up from there.

Any advice for aspiring writers?
Don’t force it.  If it is a story you want to read…write it.

What’s your favorite book?
The Harry Potter series

Who’s your favorite author?
J.K. Rowling and Stephen King

Do you listen to music while writing, or do you need silence?
Have to have music playing and I love “Blood Stream” on Pandora.  It’s my favorite station when writing.

What do you like to do when not writing?
I enjoy getting out and hanging with my daughter, my boyfriend, my friends and family.

What’s your favorite dinner…..and dessert?
Love Sauerbraten with spatzle for dinner and salted caramel gelato for dessert.

If you had to pick one movie or tv show to watch for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Hands down…Harry Potter series.

If you could spend a day with any one person from the past, who would it be?
My grandma Virginia.
