“I don’t think I’m going to be FBI material,” she blurted out. When his only response was the arching of his eyebrow, she plowed ahead, “I’m afraid I’ve made decisions regarding my career based on all the wrong reasons.” “Your dad?” He asked quietly. “Yes. Well, not just because of dad, but mostly. Like everybody else, I wanted to make the world a safer place, protect the innocent; all the usual reasons, but mostly I wanted to follow in dad’s footsteps.” He chuckled softly but his eyes held nothing but compassion when he looked at her. “I can relate a little to what you are saying. I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to pursue the family business. It’s a tough decision to step away from what we know or what we’ve heard about our entire lives.” “What’s the family business? What exciting life did the FBI steal away from you?” Not only was she curious, she rarely, if ever, heard Ty mentioning anything about his family. This might be another fun piece to the Tyler puzzle. This time, he laughed out loud. “Nothing like the FBI; that’s for certain. Forget it. I’m not going to say. You’ll laugh and I can’t trust you not to tell everybody at the office.” “Oh, hell to the no,” she argued. “You’re not dropping that little nugget and then stepping away.” She thought for a good method of punishment. “I’ll give your number to every groupie in the office!” He gave her an exaggerated look of terror. “Okay, okay. No need to play so dirty. Had I not joined the FBI, I would be slaving away in the world of retail.” “Retail?” She looked at him like he had grown a third eye right in the center of his forehead. “Yes, retail, smart ass. Merchandising. Sales. Trading. Distribution.” He laughed at the expression on her face. “Yea, so there’s not really a word that can make it sound less boring.” She flopped back against her seat. “Shit. It’s no wonder you found a way to escape. Taking tickets at the carnival would have to be more exciting than that, right?” “It has its moments,” he answered dryly. “So, back to you; what are you going to do? Stay with something you aren’t enjoying or try something new and exciting?”

*** Part 3 of a 3 part serial ***
Summary:
It’s time. Time to tell the truth. Time to face her past and step into her future.

Starting with Van.

Cory will wait to the beat of the ticking clock for him to come back. To see what she’s done and make the final judgment. As much as she holds onto the small hope that he’ll still want her, she’s ready for rejection, ready for the pain. As ready as she can be, at least.

It’s time to make things right, not only with Van, but with Jill. With Jade. With everything.

No more running.

Hardcore Part 1
Summary:
Cory James has never known a life where she wasn’t running. Running from the cops, her home, her past. Running from love. The only time she’s free is when she throws on her hood and takes to the roofs to become a part of New York, to climb to a place in the city where she doesn’t feel alone.

Stealing is nothing, lying inevitable, byproducts of survival. A way for Cory to provide for herself and for her younger sister, Jill, give her the life Cory couldn’t have. For five years, Cory set up a long line of teetering dominos, one by one, choice by choice.

Meeting Van is the first domino to fall, and once they crash into each other, it’s only a matter of time before her whole world is in danger of falling apart. She can tell herself over and again that she doesn’t care, but it’s a lie. She knows it from the first time she says his name, but she can’t let him in, not when she has a job to do, a job that could rip her life apart at the seams. One that she’ll have to betray Van to finish.

He’ll follow however high she can climb, but she can only run for so long before she has to choose.

Hardcore Part 2
Summary:
The choice is steep: Stay on the ledge and steal Van's painting or take the leap and sacrifice her sister. It's another decision in a long line that she's had to make in her life, and though it's easy to make, it's impossible to execute.

Jade won't let Cory go until she gets what she wants, but the price for Cory is high. It's never been hard to steal, to lie, but Van changed all the rules. It was the last thing she wanted to do to him. But as much as that choice is agony, there's really only one to make.

Betrayal and pain. Love and loss. Decisions and consequences. The edge Cory walks is razor sharp and sky high, but she can't look down. Not until she makes it to the other side.

Author Bio:
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife; even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Unforgettable Sun by Kathryn Andrews

Title: Unforgettable Sun
Author: Kathryn Andrews
Series: Hale Brothers #3
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 4, 2015
Summary:
Matt Hale
I’ve never really been included. I’ve never felt like I truly belonged. But then again, how could I? Living on this island, I’ve seen and heard too many things. Lies. Secrets.
“Lies I’ve been forced to tell and secrets I’ve been forced to keep. They keep me locked to myself.”
They’re the reason I stand on the edge of the horizon and watch from afar. Other people’s lives have evolved, but not mine. It’s exactly the same. Day after day, the sun rises, and every time its rays penetrate my skin, I’m reminded that no matter how desperately I don’t want to be, I’m trapped. I want to live. I want to breathe. I just want to be . . . free.

Elle Summers
If I had my way, I would have walked off the catwalk and straight out of the public eye years ago. Never-ending contracts and obligations have kept me prisoner until recently.
“Now it is fear that has me trapped and running from my life.”
I’m now hiding in a tiny beach cottage in my mother’s hometown, praying no one will find me. No one understands. The demands, lack of control, threats ... I just want it all gone. I want to escape. When do I finally get to be me? Free.

Matt
With one foot in front of the other I start running. Over the dunes and into the sand, I push as hard as I can. With tears streaming down my cheeks, visions of the fire play out before me. Gasping for air, the smell of smoke fills my senses. I didn’t notice it before but now it is so strong I almost gag. Wiping my nose with the back of my hand, I desperately try to find some fresh air. But no, there it is again, that smell. It’s on my skin. It’s like it isn’t just following me, but now permanently a part of me. Charging into the water, I dive under into the silence. My hands run over my arms, my face, and through my hair. I’m frantic and I have to get rid of the smell.
Washing up on to the shore, I curl up into a ball on the wet sand. My heart is broken for Beau and I’m so afraid. So very afraid. He’s the one and only person who has ever shown me love and the thought of losing him paralyzes me with fear. My sobs are still silent. I’ve been taught not to make a sound. But they hurt so much. Without a voice, I mouth his name over and over again. I just want Beau. I need Beau. He’s the only one who can make this all better, and make everything about this dreadful night disappear.
But he isn’t here and he can’t be.
With my eyes pinched shut, the smell of smoke in my nose, and the feel of a nonexistent heat against my skin, I know. I know it with a certainty that has robbed me of my voice and permeated itself into my pores that, no matter what, everything about this night will be . . . unforgettable.

1. What is the biggest influence/interest that brought you to this genre?
I think I've always been reading romance novels. My first book boyfriend was Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables. I could not get enough and I read the whole series by LM Montgomery. My mother and her best friend also loved romance novels. Both of them had shelves lined with Danielle Steel and I used to sneak them to read. I love romance and am a huge sucker for a really good love story.

2. When writing a book, what is your favorite part of the creative process(outline, plot, character names, editing, etc)?
I think my most favorite part is the plotting. It's the middle part of writing the story. The characters have been defined and I know the direction of the story.  It's sitting down and having the characters talk to me (yes they do... LOL). It's how the story unfolds, the words as they hit the page... I love this part. Most of my character's names are names of people that are close to me. Example, in Unforgettable Sun, Matt is my son's name and Elle is my book bestie author Elle Brooks. As for editing, I do get anxiety and cringe when I open the documents, but at the same time I get excited because I know through the edits the story is getting even better.

3. When reading a book, what genre do you find most interesting/intriguing?
Contemporary Romance. These stories tend to have more 'feels', and I love to be sucked into the emotions of the characters. I love lots of details, and I love to watch their journey and see them come out victorious on the other side. Historical is okay, I don't like dystopian or paranormal, and intimacy is nice but I don't need it super graphic. Just give me a good HEA and I'm all set. xo

4. If you could co-author with any author, past or present, who would you choose?
Oh my, do I have to pick just one? How about three. 1. Elle Brooks, we've actually talked about it and just might one day down the road. 2. Karen White, because her writing is beautiful. 3. Colleen Hoover (she's my #1 if I had to pick), her writing is flawless and within 1,000 words you are instantly in love with her characters.

5. Have you always wanted to write or did it come to you "later in life"?
I've always been writing. I wrote my first story in the second grade about rabbits. It wasn't until my husband and I made the decision for me to stay home with our boys that I found the time to really make it happen. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever expect this kind of outcome. I am humbled, overwhelmed, and so excited all at once. The bloggers who took a chance on me to read Drops of Rain and spread the word has made my dreams come true. My cup runneth over daily and I feel so blessed. xo

Author Bio:
OVER TEN YEARS ago my husband and I were driving from Chicago to Tampa and somewhere in Kentucky I remember seeing a billboard that was all black with five white words, “I do, therefore I am!” I’m certain that it was a Nike ad, but for me I found this to be completely profound.

Take running for example. Most will say that a runner is someone who runs five days a week and runs under a ten minute mile pace. Well, I can tell you that I never run five days a week and on my best days my pace is an eleven minute mile. I have run quite a few half marathons and one full marathon. No matter what anyone says . . . I run, therefore I am a runner.

I’ve taken this same thought and applied it to so many areas of my life: cooking, gardening, quilting, and yes . . . writing.

I may not be culinary trained, but I love to cook and my family and friends loves to eat my food. I cook, therefore I am a chef!

My thumb is not black. I love to grow herbs, tomatoes, roses, and lavender. I garden, therefore I am a gardener!

I love beautiful fabrics and I can follow a pattern. My triangles may not line up perfectly . . . but who cares, my quilts are still beautiful when they are finished. I quilt, therefore I am a quilter.

I have been writing my entire life. It is my husband who finally said, “Who cares if people like your books or not? If you enjoy writing them and you love your stories…then write them.” He has always been my biggest fan and he was right. Being a writer has always been my dream and what I said I wanted to be when I grew up.

So, I’ve told you who I am and what I love to do . . . now I’m going to tell you the why.

I have two boys that are three years a part. My husband and I want to instill in them adventure, courage, and passion. We don’t expect them to be perfect at things, we just want them to try and do.

It’s not about winning the race; it’s about showing up in the first place. We don’t want them to be discouraged by society stereotypes, we want them to embrace who they are and what they love. After all, we only get one life.

In the end, they won’t care how many books I actually sell . . . all that matters to them is that I said I was going to do it, I did it, and I have loved every minute of it.

Find something that you love and tell yourself, “I do, therefore I am.”

Family Secrets by Kat Nichols

Title: Family Secrets
Author: Kat Nichols
Series: Secret Societies Collection #1
Genre: Paranormal, Young Adult
Release Date: January 8, 2015
Summary:
An orphan by the age of sixteen, Sophia Morganthal now lives with her best friend and struggles in a world with no relatives. Midway through her Senior year, Sophia finds herself flying across the country to live with a family she never knew existed. She ends up with more questions than answers when she discovers that not only does she come from a long line of witches but that she must be initiated within the year to prevent a battle for coven leadership.

Feeling more alone than ever, Sophia finds her solace in books. The journals of past initiates provide her with more than she ever wanted to know and make her question the path she’s on. Amidst all of the upheaval in her life, Sophia also finds one source of happiness – Connor. The last thing she needs is more complications, but Connor is the only person who makes her feel wanted for herself and not for what she stands for.

As Sophia learns more about herself, and what being initiated into Blackthorne coven really means, she must answer the ultimate question – would she give up everything for her family?

On a Friday two weeks into second semester, Connor dropped heavily into the chair next to me. His gray shirt matched his eyes perfectly. It was perhaps a size too small, so it pulled at his broad shoulders and was snug across his very well-defined chest. I was having a hard time keeping my eyes above his neckline. I felt like such a guy.
“So, any plans for this weekend?”
I jerked my eyes up to meet his and frowned. “No, Connor, as usual I’m not doing anything this weekend.” He asked me the same question every week since the first and I always gave the same answer.
“Morganthal, what is it going to take to get you out of that house? Be social. Live a little. You’re seventeen years old.”
“I know how old I am, Connor.” I huffed.
“You don’t act like it,” he said. Then sighing loudly, he ran his hands through his hair. “I’m sorry; it’s not really my business. It’s just— I’d like to see you outside of school and maybe for more than forty-five minutes.”
“It’s fine,” I replied, dropping my pencil onto the table and pushing back in my chair. “Hopefully things will change soon. I’d like to see you outside of school too.”
     “Really?” he asked.
     I nodded.
“Alright, I’ll stop being a jerk.”
“Is that even possible?” I asked, trying to hold back my grin.
He tried to appear offended for all of a minute before laughing at himself. I loved his laugh. It was husky and low, which kick started the butterflies in my stomach and no matter how I was feeling always made me want to join in.
“You really have no idea,” he smirked. “I keep my extra special jerkiness just for when you’re around.”
“Oh, that’s an incentive to hang out with you. You really should’ve kept that to yourself.”
He tossed his head back and laughed before turning straight-faced. “I’d be on my best behavior,” he paused, “at least for the first five minutes or so.” Then he grinned, flashing his adorable dimples at me and making my knees weak.

Tell us about Family Secrets?
Family Secrets is a young adult, coming of age story with a magical twist. Sophia moves to Illinois and her whole life is turned upside down. She meets family she never knew she had and finds out she comes from a long line of witches. She deals with family issues, meeting new friends and a cute boy at school, all while studying to pass her initiation.

How did you come up with the idea for Family Secrets?
Believe it or not, Family Secrets came to me in one sitting. We’d just formed the Rebel Writers and NaNoWriMo was about to start, so I decided to sit down to plot out a book. I locked myself in my bedroom and just put pen to paper. It took a couple hours, but when I was done I had a very basic idea of what would happen in Family Secrets.

You’ve mentioned the Rebel Writers. Who are they and how have they influenced you?
The Rebel Writers is my writing group. We met as fans of indie author Rachel Higginson, who I love, and we all decided we’d write our first books together. They are amazing women and talented authors. If not for them, I never would have finished my first book, let alone have other books in the pipeline. We got so lucky. They are my best friends and my sisters. Cheesy, I know!

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
You have to get out there and mingle with the blogging/writing/reading world. Join discussion groups, follow Facebook pages, and put yourself out there. It can be time consuming, time you may want to spend writing, but you can meet some amazing people. And then, keep going. Don’t stop writing or reading. If possible, find yourself a good writing group to help keep you sane. They will understand what you’re going through and can support you in ways even your best friends and family cannot.

Why do you like writing YA books?
I know I’m generalizing here, but for teens, everything is new or fresh, like the tingles of first love and the devastation of first heartbreak. All of the emotions are felt so keenly and powerfully. It seems like they experience things on a grander scale and I enjoy delving into those emotions when writing.

Where do you usually find yourself writing?
Anywhere I can. I’m a mom with a full time job and a son who plays three sports. I try to get writing in while I’m at work, on my lunches and my breaks. Plus, I’ve been known to pull out my laptop at basketball practice or dentist appointments, anywhere I can get some words in.

Is there a character that has taken a completely different turn than you originally planned for it? Characters that you discarded and wrote out or became more important than you planned?
I’ve often heard authors say that the characters speak to them or take over a story but I’d never really seen it in action until Ellen. She’s the cook at Sophia’s new home and like the maids, was meant to be more of a background character. As I wrote her, she demanded a much larger role and ended up being a pretty important person to Sophia.

Do you have any upcoming projects?
I do! I’m halfway finished with book two in the Secret Societies collection. Deadly Secrets is a continuation of Sophia’s story and I plan on releasing in July or early August of this year. I also have the first chapter of a novella about Sophia’s parents up on the site, Literrater. I’d like to have it published by the end of the year.
The Secret Societies collection will continue after that but will tell the story of a different paranormal group and since they all live in the same area, the stories will intertwine. For example, people in Deadly Secrets will show up in later books. My goal is that each set can stand alone as a series, but you can read them all in order to fully understand what is going on with these groups and the relationships between them. The first set, Secrets, focuses on Sophia and the witches, and will consist of two full length novels and one novella.

How can our readers find you?

Writing a novel had always been a dream for her, perhaps an item on her bucket list, but it wasn't until she joined a writing group with other aspiring writers that she finally got to work. When not writing, Kat is reading or driving her son to and from practices and wishing she was reading. It depends on the day.
