Fair Play by Josh Lanyon

Summary:
Fifty years ago, Roland Mills belonged to a violent activist group. Now, someone is willing to kill to prevent him from publishing his memoirs.

When ex-FBI agent Elliot Mills is called out to examine the charred ruins of his childhood home, he quickly identifies the fire for what it is--arson. A knee injury may have forced Elliot out of the Bureau, but it's not going to stop him from bringing the man who wants his father dead to justice.

Agent Tucker Lance is still working to find the serial killer who's obsessed with Elliot and can't bear the thought of his lover putting himself in additional danger. Straightlaced Tucker has never agreed with radical Roland on much--"opposing political viewpoints" is an understatement--but they're united on this: Elliot needs to leave the case alone. Now.

Tucker would do nearly anything for the man he loves, but he won't be used to gain Elliot access to the FBI's resources. When the past comes back to play and everything both men had known to be true is questioned, their fragile relationship is left hanging in the balance.

What can I say about Fair Play?  Amazing!  Awesome! Exciting!  Just to list a few words to describe Josh Lanyon's newest release.  I didn't think I could love Elliot or Tucker or Mr. Lanyon for that matter, any more than I did after reading Fair Game, but you know what?  I do!  If Elliott thought the end of the summer school session was going to make life easier than it was during the Sculptor case than he's got a lot of rethinking to do.  With Roland's book coming out soon, it seems trouble is coming out of the woodwork.

I love the mystery in this one nearly as much as I loved the Sculptor case in Fair Game.  The connection between Elliott and Tucker just jumps right off the page despite some holes in their communication, not to mention the heat between the couple.  Throw in a horde of intriguing former anti-war radicals and you have a story that just won't let go of you from beginning to end.  I'm already feeling E&T withdrawal.

The Wolf by KR Thompson

TITLE – The Wolf
SERIES – The Keeper Saga
AUTHOR – K.R. Thompson
GENRE – Historical Paranormal Romance
PUBLICATION DATE – 07-24-14
LENGTH (Pages/# Words) – 53 pages
COVER ARTIST – Keri Knutson, Alchemy Book Covers

Summary:
Their secret has been safe for hundreds of years, a legacy and legend that has been carefully kept by six guardians. They are known as the Keepers. But before the legend of the Keepers—came the Wolf.

Once upon a time, there lived a man whose fate would rest with two sisters. One will hold his heart. With her, he discovers a love that will last forever, though it will come with a price.

From the other sister, he will learn fortitude as he discovers that she holds the power to destroy all he holds dear. For as easily as one sister captures his heart, the other has found the way to trap his soul.

One mountain stood off in the distance. Its peak was the highest. It grazed the heavens. It was the closest point that he could get to his love, now in the inky, deep black sky. It seemed it would be the perfect place to make his presence—and his demands—known.
The trip up the mountain took a great deal of the night, his strength had waned, but anger and determination pushed him up to the giant boulder, far above, jutting out into the night air.
The moon was beyond his reach—so close, yet, so far away. Swift Foot stood on the edge of the rock. A cool breeze greeted him, brushing softly against his cheek. He felt Shining Star had sent the breeze to touch him.
“I am here,” he told her softly, looking up into the sky. Then, he took a deep breath, and announced loudly to the Great Spirit, “I have come to speak to you.”
The breeze was replaced with a sudden burst of warm air, an acknowledgement of sorts.
He took a step forward, feeling the balls of his feet touch the edge of the rock. He was close now.
“You will put me there with her or I will die!” The raw emotion caused his voice to crack, but he knew the Great Spirit heard his demand.
A lightning bolt cracked from a cloudless sky in front of him, striking the ground below. No whispering voices came to his mind or thundering ones either. It seemed the Great Spirit wasn’t in the mood for negotiations. It wasn’t the response Swift Foot had wished to hear or see. Still, he stood on the rock, while his love watched him from her place in the heavens.
That was just as well, Swift Foot decided. He would be with her soon, with or without any help. He would never spend a day without her.
Another lightning strike lit up the sky as he lifted his arms out, and fell…

A short read but well written story.  It's no secret that I prefer long stories to novellas but this made an enticing entry to the author's Keeper Saga series.  It's not my typical genre of choice but it definitely left me wanting to read further and check out more from the author.  Most certainly an author that is being added to my watch-for list.

As Nell’s world opens up, we follow her on a complex journey, on which she discovers love, loss and betrayal, and is forced to play a dangerous game from which there appears to be no escape.

Dreams and a love of literature are Nell’s only escapism from the downtrodden life she leads as a governess in the nineteenth century.

One night, an intruder on the estate catches Nell off guard, but she gives chase; a decision that leads her through an opening in time between the centuries, where she finds equality, true friendship and a completely different outlook on life.

Despite using this to her advantage to escape the advances of her unwanted suitor, she is somewhat perturbed when she unexpectedly finds him at her side in the twenty-first century. Will love conquer all, or will time always stand in their way?

“You, madam, are my weakness. Believe me when I say that I did not seek you out, you just happened upon me.” His eyes widened. “You have not the slightest idea how I have tried to fight my desires long and hard, but I have to admit defeat; I have succumbed to your charms.” His words faltered as he continued. “I … I find you uncommonly…” With a shake of his head he corrected himself. “No, my dear, I find you disturbingly beautiful.

Cover Reveal: Bounty: Hunted Love #2 by Aden Lowe

Title: Bounty
Series: Hunted Love #2
Author: Aden Lowe
Genre: Romance
Release Date: November 28th, 2014

Summary:
Bounty hunter, Falon Harris is asked to go after outlaw biker Tom Kellen and tracks him to where he's hiding out in Stags Leap, KY, laying low and waiting for the heat to pass. Rita James operates a busy tavern/grill and occasionally rents out the little camper trailer on her back lot. Figuring the tavern is the most logical place to watch for Kellen, Falon rents the trailer for a week. The first night, while he's having dinner and watching everything, Kellen shows up and starts giving Rita a hard time. The bartender puts a stop to it, but Falon gets the idea it's happened before. Knowing Kellen's past, he knows the biker won't take no for an answer for long.

Her brain must be on vacation. That was the only explanation because, normally, Rita would never lead a strange man out to the little trailer after dark. Not by herself, at least. She should have grabbed one of the girls to go along.
Something about Falon Harris said she had no need to fear him.  All she had worry about was what she would allow him to do, if he asked. Even just walking through the back of the tavern ahead of him, she had to fight the urge to put just a little extra sway to her hips. Ridiculous. Last thing she needed was more attention from a man.
Maybe if she could get Kellen to leave her alone, she might be able to look elsewhere. For the millionth time, she asked herself why she'd done something so stupid. As always, no suitable answer presented itself. She gave herself a little mental shake. No sense thinking that way.
She should say something. Yes. "How long you planning to be here, Mr. Harris?"
He chuckled a little and leaned around her to hold the back door for her. The movement brought him right up close and personal, making Rita very aware of him. "That depends, Miss James." He smiled a little, drawing her attention to the small scar at the edge of his lower lip.
Rita started walking again, partly to gain a little distance from all that overwhelming maleness. "You're here for work then?" Of course he was. No one came to Stags Leap for pleasure.

Author Bio:
Growing up an only child, I was lucky enough to have a huge brood of cousins to help me get into all sorts of trouble. Long summers spent on various family members' farms gave me a deep appreciation for the outdoors and horses. I worked my way through college training horses as a result of those summers.
After 15 years editing books for strangers, I decided to try my own hand at writing. Big Game: Hunted Love #1 was my solo debut, and my story idea file is endless. After I finish the Hunted Love series, I have a romance series featuring soldiers returning from war and set twenty years in the future. And after that, there's a Roman Gladiator who keeps insisting on telling me his story…
