Victim Souls by Andrew Terech

Title: Victim Souls
Author: Andrew Terech
Genre: Horror, Young Adult
Release Date: November 8, 2014

Summary:
Sometimes, only bad guys can beat the Devil…

The plan is simple: get the money and deliver the car. What could possibly go wrong?

What can’t?

Things start to go south when Sam Drake realizes that his brother Johnny is hiding something, a secret about Sam’s troubled childhood that goes beyond his most feverish nightmares…

Then Johnny’s girlfriend, Ash, starts sending Sam the kind of mixed signals that can only lead to big trouble…

With everything he believes about himself and the world around him shattered, Sam will become the unlikely champion in a battle with true evil, a fight to save a soul that has already been forfeited to darkness.

His own.

My Love of Fear
Death, evil, monsters, ghosts and the worst traits in humanity are just a few reasons why horror appeals to me and to so many others. Why is that we’re drawn to such awful things? Why do we expose ourselves to terror and restless nights? My love comes from two places: my love for my father and my love of fear.

My father was a massive horror fan. He used to let me sneak out of my room at night and watch scary movies with him when I was a kid. He always made me bring my blanket, so he could tell me when to cover my eyes. I always listened without question. Those are my fondest memories of my father and one of the few ways he and I truly connected. For me, horror has a sentimental value but that’s not the case for everyone. I’m not sure why my father was drawn to the genre; he passed away before I was ever able to explore the subject with him. If I were to guess, he probably had the same reason I do; the reason we all do.

There are two primary emotions: Love and Fear. All other feelings are rooted in one or the other: anger, hate, jealousy, envy, etc. Horror has a way of tapping into that primary emotion of fear, making us feel something that logically we’d want to avoid. But we’re human, and emotion is what makes us feel alive. Some people jump out of planes or launch motorcycles over large canyons. Why? To feel that primary fear. To feel alive. Except, everyone isn’t lining up to dive off a cliff, because those activities introduce a real danger that most of us aren’t willing to risk.

The beauty of a well-written horror story is its ability to induce an intense emotion without the danger. I’m not much of a thrill seeker, but I love to sit alone in a dark room with a terrifying book or film. We love all forms of fiction because it can simulate a powerful reality without the consequences. One could apply the same logic to the popularity of video games and virtual worlds. Some people even prefer to live in a safe, virtual world instead of the real one. Horror isn’t the only genre that access our fears, but its by far the best at it.

Fear exists in us to keep us alive; a built in mechanism that tells us not to go into that dark alley or to run the other way when the bear roars into our campsite. With horror, we get to walk down that alley; we get to stand our ground against that bear, all without the consequence or real danger. Writing horror stories gives me the opportunity to create the thrill for others, and it offers a way to explore my own deepest fears.

That’s what draws to me to the horror genre. How about you?

How can readers enter the YA Spring Fling giveaway?
Head over to my website and find the page for the YA Spring Fling (handy hint, it’s HERE). Once you’re there you can browse through the books on offer, or check out more information about the participating authors.

You should see plenty of links prompting you to enter the giveaway. Simply fill out the Google document telling us which books you’d like to win, the format you prefer, and whether you would also like to win paperbacks and swag. It’s that simple. Pick the books you want and sign off.

How will I know I’ve won?
There are so many books on offer that I’d be surprised if you didn’t win something! So you will be hearing from us.

After April 3rd, I will collate all the entries and pass them on to the participating authors. They will then choose the winners at random and Email the winners to let them know the good news.

Will my Email or personal details be used outside the giveaway?
Absolutely not. We’re all against spam and promise not to use your Email for anything other than contacting you as a winner. If you joined up to the YA Spring Fling mailing list you will receive one Email telling you the giveaway is open, and another warning you it is about to close. That’s it!

Is the giveaway open internationally?
Yes! But there are some paperbacks on offer that are region specific. Not all of our authors are sending paperbacks and swag internationally, purely because it costs us so much money and we ain’t made of it. ;)

We will ask for your country of residence in the Google document. That’s so we can work out the winners for region specific paperbacks more easily. Everything else is open internationally.

I have a question, who can I contact?
Me! Send me a message on Facebook. My Email might be clogged by answering author queries, so Facebook might be the easiest method.

Who can I tell about the giveaway? And what can I do to help spread the word?
You can tell everyone and anyone who might like YA books. If you’d like to spread the word it would be awesome if you could follow or like some of the authors and share their posts about the giveaway. You can find a full list of the participating authors and their social media links here.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! MAY YOU WIN MANY BOOKS!

Release Day Blitz: StepSister Devotion Part 3 by Eve Cates

Title: StepSister Devotion Part Three
Author: Eve Cates
Series: StepSister Devotion #3
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 25, 2015
Summary:
I asked her to make a choice and deep down, I knew what it would be – our lives didn't go together, and they still don’t. She’s the head of a giant corporation and I’m a musician who spends months at a time on the road. We exist in different worlds and I can accept that because I’m not the boy I once was, I’m not the broken soul I once was either.

But the world is forever changing, and our professional worlds are merging. Suddenly, we’re keeping similar company. Suddenly, we’re back in each other’s orbit. Things have changed. I have changed. Now, I’m a man who knows what he wants. Now, I’m a man who won’t be playing any games. Now, I’m a man who’ll take what’s mine, and I won’t apologise – not to a single soul.

This is happening. I don’t care anymore. Abigail belongs with me – out in the open, in secret…up against the dressing room door…she belongs with me.

I’m taking what’s mine, and I won’t be sharing.

“I want to have our story on stage, Seb. I think back, and sometimes it feels so long ago that I can’t remember it clearly. I need it back. I need those memories to be alive and vivid.”

“And what do you think will happen when people see it? Don't you think they’ll figure out it’s about us?”

“It doesn't say they’re stepsiblings. It’s about fighting families.”

“The answer is no, Abi. They are my songs and this is Thom’s production. You don’t get a say. If you want to withdraw your funding, go for it. I’ll fucking fund it myself.”

“I don’t want to do that. I want to be a part of this.”

Her hands are back on her hips again, and her brow is creased from her exasperation. My thumb itches to smooth out the line in the centre. I drop my gaze to try and cancel out my thoughts. But all I end up doing is slowly raking my gaze down the length of her body. I feel my body stir. I’m not doing this again. I’m not going through this fight.

My gaze drifts back to her eyes and locks for a moment before I speak. “Take off your dress.”

Her perfectly plump lips part in surprise and her cheeks immediately flush. At the same time, she appears confused. “Excuse me?”

“Take off your dress. Lie it over that chair,” I command, indicating the sitting area in Andrew’s office.

“I don’t…” she starts, her flush creeping to her chest as her breasts rise and fall from her rapid breathing.

I step toward her, slowly walking around her until I’m standing against her back, whispering in her ear. Her breath catches when I begin to speak.

“I’m not doing this with you again, Abi. I’m not having you come back into my life, showing up wherever I am, only to tell me that I still can’t have you. I’m not fighting what’s between us because you’re worried about what the world might think. I don’t give a fuck about the world. I don’t give a fuck about your commitments. What I give a fuck about is what I want. And right now...” I lower my mouth to the curve of her neck and lightly brush my lips along its curve until I return to her ear. “I want you to take off this dress and hang it over the back of that chair.”

She gasps and trembles, and I reach up to undo her zip to halfway, exposing the black silk of her bra, gently running my fingers over her exposed skin. “I also care about what you want, Abi. I know you want this. You wouldn't be back in my life if it weren't to satisfy a craving. I’m going to give it to you, Abi. I’m going to bend you over that desk, and I’m going to take you while people wait for us in a conference room down the hall. And when it’s over, you can leave, or you can come back for more. It’s up to you. But I won’t fight again, Abi. I’ll be honest about what I want. Will you?”

She sucks in her breath and steps away from me, my cock strains against the zip of my jeans as my eyes see the milky white skin through her open dress. She reaches behind her and holds it in place so it won’t fall then she turns around to face me. So beautiful and flushed. I wonder if she's going to go through with this.

He didn’t respond for hours. I was making a salad for dinner and opening a can of tuna that Fuckhead was going nuts over when he finally walked in, windswept and disheveled, in jeans and a white T-shirt. I stopped what I was doing to stare, and the cat leapt over my feet and between my legs, meowing repeatedly.
     “Well, can I?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I have to do something for someone, but if I don’t, you can.” His eyes flicked to me briefly.
     “Cryptic much?”
“Sorry, I just, uh, I just have some stuff going on right now.”
     “With Bethany.”
“No. Yes. No, not to do with her.” He raked his hands through his hair, taming it, then headed to the fridge.
     “Who are you?” I asked.
     “What? What do you mean?”
“I mean, I thought we had a… a friendship or something, and I don’t understand what I’ve done wrong.” Addressing it made a weird emotional bubble grow in my chest, and my eyes started to sting.
     He stopped and turned around.
I blinked rapidly, trying to dissipate any water that was collecting. The cat let out a mournful moan.
“You haven’t done anything wrong, Liv.”
“Then why do I feel like I have? Are…” I swallowed. “Are you disgusted with me now?”
“What?” he whispered. His face creased, like he was in pain and his eyes did a slow blink. Then he took a step toward me and just kept coming. And suddenly I was wrapped up in his arms, my face pressed into his hard chest, breathing him in. Breathing in his unique scent of laundry and male exertion and the fresh outdoors. Salt and weathered wood.
I froze, stiff with surprise from the sudden contact, then endured the brazen heat that immediately followed and whipped through my belly.
His head dropped on top of mine, and he breathed into my hair. “I know you don’t mean that.”
     “Mean what?”
“How could I ever be disgusted with you? I—”
He lapsed into silence, just holding me. His chest was warm, his heart beating hard under my cheek.
Lifting my arms tentatively, I slid them around his waist. I thought I felt him shudder. His muscles were bunched tight, or he was tense. I didn’t know. He was hugging me. I could hug him back, right?
The cat embarked on a continuous series of desperate meows and threaded his body between our legs in a figure eight. I willed him to shut the hell up and stop ruining this moment, but it was no use.
     Tom chuckled and pulled away.
“Fuckhead,” I growled vehemently at the cat, who proceeded to give me a nice view of his butt.
I looked up, and Tom was watching me, amused. He reached his hand up and slid it behind my head, and I stopped breathing. His gaze flicked to my mouth for a millisecond. My lips burned. My eyes fluttered closed as he drew me in and placed a soft kiss on my forehead. His beard, he’d taken to wearing clipped closer to his skin these days, torturing me with glimpses of his beauty, grazed my brow.
I swallowed the painful lump in my throat, my heart hammering.
     He drew away slowly.
I kept my eyes closed. I couldn’t bear for him to see what mine must look like. Desperate. Yearning. Drowning in agony.
And the knowledge that I could never tell him how I felt, that I had to keep it locked in my heart where it couldn’t ruin this, was almost a comfort. I would be safe and able to stay here with him as long as I didn’t mess this up. God, and I’d come so close to messing it all up when I came on to him.
I hated the memory of myself, of who I’d been then. How could a person change so much in so short a time? It was both the beauty and the agony of my lot. Falling in love with him had forever altered me, but to let it out of my heart might lose him forever.

Tell us about your current release release?
My new release is DEEP BLUE ETERNITY. I am so excited about this book. It’s a definite departure from the world of EVERSEA but no less true to my writing style. Formerly known as The Cottage (and funnily enough the cottage in the book is almost like an additional character in the story, bearing witness to the love story), my UK publisher felt that Deep Blue Eternity, a phrase used in the book to describe love would be a better fit. And I agree! Why didn’t I think of it first?

What genre would you say the book is?
Contemporary definitely, as it is present day. And of course romance. However, there is a suspenseful and gothic undertone to the story as it is set in an area rife with superstition.

If you had to sum your book up in 30 or less words, what would you say?
DEEP BLUE ETERNITY is a deeply emotional book and while it deals with some tough issues, it’s about the aftermath and recovery of those things in our past. It’s about forgiveness and it’s about how falling in love changes us.

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Darynda Jones. I love her sense of humor. I think we’d be besties.

Do you prefer eBooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
My son says the books he reads that he holds in his hands stay with him longer. I might be inclined to agree. But in the end, I just love books. For ease of transport and instant gratification (1-click buy anyone?)  - eBooks.

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version?
Great question! This doesn’t happen very often, does it. I’m so glad they turned outlander into a show so we could keep the detail that made the book so extraordinary. The Beach, The Princess Bride, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers – oh, and Fifty Shades of Grey!

So what are you working on next?
Aaaah the age old question.  I’m actually working on several projects. But hopefully the next thing that will be ready, finally, is a spin off of the Eversea series featuring the heroine’s best friend Jazz.

White wine or red?
White

Coffee or tea?
Tea

Vanilla or chocolate ice-cream?
Swirl

What are 4 things you never leave home without?
Book, Kindle, phone (with kindle app), pen and paper for inspiration, updated inspiration playlist.

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad – ?
In the beginning of my writing career I felt like I had bipolar, one review would make me high, the next would cut me down so hard I wouldn’t want to ever write again.  But than fully that phase was short-lived. If you do all you can to make sure it’s your best work  - then bad reviews have to be ‘water off a ducks back’... But seriously, bad reviews probably bother you most when you know deep down you could have done something better.  That’s probably a backwards way to look at it… but I guess that makes me backwards ( Good reviews?  Aaaah, good, honest, unexpected reviews… there’s nothing like it.  And the reviews where someone lets you know that reading your book got them through a tough time, or started a new love of reading? Well, that makes it all worth it!
