Pepper Jones Series by Ali Dean

Series: Pepper Jones
Author: Ali Dean
Genre: Contemporary, Romance, Young Adult

Pepped Up #1
Summary:
Pepper Jones is ready for an epic cross country season. She wants to qualify for Nationals, and she’s willing to do anything it takes to make it happen. She can handle long miles and hill sprints, but boys? That’s an entirely different challenge.

Pepper’s never considered revealing her deeper feelings for her longtime friend, Jace Wilder. After all, he’s got the personal magnetism and good looks to hook just about any girl in town — and he has. Their friendship stands apart from high school social circles, and they’re both just fine with that (or at least they pretend to be).

That is, until running star Ryan Harding moves to town.

When it comes to running, Pepper’s goals are clear. But when it comes to Jace and Ryan, it’s nowhere near as simple.

All Pepped Up #2
Summary:
Pepper Jones knew that being Jace Wilder’s girlfriend wouldn’t be simple. But she didn’t predict just how many complications would arise from his past. Jealous girls? That she expected. Family secrets? Not so much. At least Pepper can always hit the trails to clear her head… except when it comes to racing. The high expectations from her phenomenal cross country season haunt her, and she can’t seem to get psyched up for track season. Pepper’s junior year at Brockton Public is full of challenges on and off the track, but she’s not afraid to face them.

Pepped Up & Ready #3
Summary:
Pepper is finally a senior, and she’s determined to defend her national cross-country title. Although Jace is busy with the demands of college football, he’s still at Pepper’s side, supporting her goals. But is she taking her renewed enthusiasm for training too far?

As Jace and Pepper focus on their athletic ambitions, they discover that Jace’s social status has followed him to college, despite his attempt to keep a low profile. With her boyfriend as an idol on campus, Pepper discovers that she might just be a target to those who find Jace threatening.

Are Jace and Pepper strong enough to withstand the pressure from those who want something from them? It won’t be easy fighting for her title and her boyfriend, but nothing easy is worth winning… or keeping.

1.  What is the biggest influence/interest that brought you to this genre?
I don’t think it was any specific book or person that brought me to coming of age/YA/NA fiction, but I love writing about the late teenage/ early twenties because it’s such an important time in our lives, and it’s not an easy transition from kid to adult. It’s that in-between time, when our actions begin to have more serious consequences, and our decisions become more important ones with lasting impacts. Not to mention, emotions are running high as we figure out who we are and what our values are.

2.  When writing a book, what is your favorite part of the creative process(outline, plot, character names, editing, etc)?
My favorite part of writing a book is probably at the very beginning, as the story begins to form in my head. I don’t do an outline before I begin writing; I just have a general idea of who my characters are and concepts about the plot and where it’s going that are not yet figured out. As I write, the characters take on personalities and the plot forms a more precise shape. It’s exciting for me as I get in the groove (that’s what I call it when the story sucks me in), and the next thing I know, I’ve got a book!

3.  When reading a book, what genre do you find most interesting/intriguing?
Just as I like to write coming of age fiction, I like to read it as well, for the same reasons provided to the first question. Personally, those years were a whirlwind of changes and a rollercoaster of emotions. Actually, I met my now husband at 21 and I think we both helped each other figure out our values and what kind of adults we wanted to be. Each day comes with unique experiences and each phase of life presents new challenges, but doing it as a team with my husband makes a huge difference. As cheesy as it is, we’re stronger together, and perhaps that’s why I like reading and writing romance fiction so much. I want everyone to have an awesome relationship like mine.

4.  If you could co-author with any author, past or present, who would you choose?
That’s a hard one. I like tons of authors, but recently I’ve really enjoyed books by Colleen Hoover and Amy Harmon, so it’d be fun to write with one of them. I’ve always thought C.S. Lewis was a genius and find a lot of his writing fascinating, but I don’t see myself co-authoring with him. I’m not cerebral enough.

5.  Have you always wanted to write or did it come to you "later in life"?
For the most part, I’d say it came to me “later in life.” I did like creative writing as a kid in school, and I remember enjoying it in high school and college a little too. I always did well at it, got positive feedback from teachers, but I was simply too busy with sports and other activities to really get into it at the time. Believe it or not, it wasn’t until after law school when I became a lawyer that I had some extra time. I was reading a lot on my commute on the bus, and I really enjoyed reading books by indie authors. They didn’t follow cookie cutter plots and had their own thing going on. Reading self-published books inspired me to give it a shot on my own – either while riding the bus or in the evenings or weekends, since I no longer had unending homework or bar studying to do! Once I got into creative writing, I was hooked.

Bonded 2 by Sara York

Title: Bonded 2
Author: Sara York
Series: Bond in Love #2
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: August 14, 2015
Summary:
Liam Muller’s passion for life, mixed with his abusive past created more problems than Greg Peterson could handle on his own. When the pair meet Chris Edwards, everything changes. Both Greg and Chris keep Liam even, but when Liam’s parents plot his kidnapping, Chris and Greg can do nothing to keep him safe without the help of Chris’s new friend, Agent Samuel Graves.

Samuel is all about the job, but he craves a connection like Liam, Chris, and Greg have. When Sam meets Hudson Radcliff, he’s thrown off balance with attraction. His normally cool demeanor is set aflame with lust and need. Hudson and Sam burn for each other, but their passion is tested when everyone is put in danger.

Chris, and Greg fight Liam’s demons after they are reunited, but Liam’s parents won’t give up without a fight. Three men together may challenge people, but Liam, Chris, and Greg will fight to the end for their love.

Liam nodded and drew in a deep breath, watching the people move around him. People who looked to be medics took out the younger of the guys who’d been held here. The minutes ticked by, and he wanted to remind Sam he needed to see Greg and Chris, but every time he glanced to Sam, he held up his hand and nodded.
He was about out of all of his patience when the door to the facility opened and a new group of people walked in. The second man through the door was big, and it didn’t take him more than a second to realize it was Greg. He stood on shaky legs, tears streaming down his face. Greg was crying too and so was Chris.
“Greg.” Liam fell into open arms, trusting Greg would catch him. He wasn’t disappointed as Greg wrapped his arms around him and held him tight. He felt lips pressed against his face and neck, and then he felt more arms around him. Chris was beside them. His heart swelled so much, he wondered if his chest could contain it. He couldn’t stop the flow of tears as he held Greg. His men had saved him. They hadn’t forgotten about him.
“Okay, it’s time to head out.” Sam was standing right beside them, his gaze serious. “The locals have been alerted to what’s going on. We need the three of you to head to the airport. Greg and Chris, your bags are already in a car and on the way there. There is some grumbling from local law enforcement that they want to arrest Liam. We can’t let them get Liam back into their custody. Let’s move out, now.”
Liam held Greg’s hand and then reached out for Chris’s. All three of them settled in the backseat of the car Sam led them to, Liam in the middle, sandwiched between his lovers. Sam slid behind the wheel and another man sat in the passenger seat. Liam looked from Greg to Chris and back to Greg, his emotions rising to the surface again.
Chris placed his hand on Liam’s knee and squeezed. It felt amazing to be back with his men. There was so much to tell them, and yet he couldn’t say anything. He thought he’d be able to speak before they made it to the airport, but tension and fear held him in check. If the cops caught up to them, they might arrest him.
It took them more than thirty minutes to arrive. Once there, Sam led them into a small terminal.
“This isn’t the right place, is it?” Liam asked. “It was bigger when I flew in.”
“We’re flying private. You’ll be in Virginia in a couple of hours. Greg, Chris, your luggage is already stowed below. Liam, if we find anything that belongs to you, we’ll return it. I’ll be in contact with you in the next few days, and I’ll probably be sending a few photos of things we don’t have to hold and see if they’re yours. Some items may be used as evidence and you won’t get it back for a while.”
     “Okay,” Liam whispered.
“Hey,” Sam held out his hand. “I swear you’ll be protected. I’ve discussed some options with Greg and Chris. When I fly home, I’ll meet with you and discuss those with you.”
He nodded as he shook Sam’s hand before moving next to Greg, seeking comfort. During takeoff, he had to be strapped into his own seat, but once they were flying, he unstrapped and crawled onto Greg’s lap. Chris moved to the seat he’d been occupying. He leaned forward and kissed Chris, tears forming in his eyes as he realized it all could have gone much worse. He was only at that shitty place for a little over a day. If he’d been there for weeks or longer, he knew he wouldn’t be the same person.
The kiss ended and he sat back, resting his head against Greg’s shoulder. Both Chris and Greg held him, giving him comfort. He fell asleep quickly and woke as they were starting their descent for landing.
“You have to strap in,” Greg said as he helped Liam move to the seat he’d been in earlier.
Liam found Chris in the row opposite them and reached over as Greg fastened his seatbelt. He held hands with Chris and Greg, not wanting to lose his connection with either one of them. The plane touched down and he let out a sigh. Now life could get back to normal, at least he hoped it could.

Ryan's Love by CA Harms

Title: Ryan's Love
Author: CA Harms
Series: Sawyer Brothers #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 11, 2015
Summary:
One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was bury my wife.

The second hardest thing would be watching my 12 year old daughter fall to her knees as they lowered her mother into the ground to rest.

A heart wrenching vision that will forever be etched in my mind.

Claire was my best friend, she had been since we were barely old enough to talk. I always knew, one day, I would marry her. I think I may have even told her that a few times while we were growing up.

Never did I think I would lose her so suddenly.

I knew at that moment…
Our life would never be the same again…

“Come on, Bailey, why don’t you let me get you home? You’re gonna feel like shit in the morning, sweetheart.” Jackson stood up and took a step toward her, holding out his hand.

“Oh please, Jack, you need to just chill out and take a Viagra. I’m fine, and I’m not ready to leave.”

Everyone froze, staring at Bailey intently. Had she truly meant to say that, or was that a drunk slipup?

Jackson leaned in and placed one hand on each arm of her chair, then lowered himself until his face was only inches from hers. “I can reassure you, baby, I can go all night long, and I don’t need a little blue pill to make that possible.”

She tilted her head back and looked up at him with a puzzled expression.

He smiled and licked his lower lip, and the way he looked at Bailey, showing sure signs of lust, was causing me to feel a little overheated. Jackson’s sexual energy seemed to flow off him in waves. He never tried to hide it, and he sure as hell didn’t care who was around when he decided to lay it on even thicker.

His lips were so close to hers that it looked as if he was going to kiss her. Instead, he murmured, “When you’re not so drunk, I’ll show you just how long I can go. I’m pretty damn sure I can outlast you, sweetheart.”

Bailey turned her head in my direction, suddenly looking a little more sober than she had three minutes ago. Our gazes locked, and her eyes widened just a little. “I meant to say Valium,” she whispered in horror.

“Hey!” Aria shouted, not that it did anything to stop their fighting.

“Enough!” James’s voice echoed in the confined space.

The men let go of one another and stood, dusting off the dirt caked to their skin.

A gentleman with red hair and blue eyes stepped toward Aria. He’d been one of the three fighting, a crewmember on the ship. “Do you know what they’re having us do?” he asked.

“No,” Aria said, glancing back at the die lying on the floor. Aria rolled the large die slightly with her hand. It stood up to her waist in height, though it felt lighter than it looked. She’d never seen a die quite so large. Who made it?

“The festival tonight is entertainment for the commander and the tribe. She’s choosing two from the pit and they’ll have to do whatever the die says.”

Aria swallowed nervously as she further examined the giant die. One side showed two people battling with swords. Aria frowned, turning the die onto another side, it revealed a pictograph of two men with guns in a shoot-out. That wouldn’t end well for someone. Her heart skipped a beat, and she rolled the die onto another side, covering her lips in surprise. Was that a paddle? Her cheeks burned and she took a step back from the die.

James didn’t appear nearly as affected as Aria from the news. He stepped forward, resting his hand on her lower back. “Do we know who has been elected for the festival?”

Kali shook her head. “The commander chooses two worthy opponents from the pit of invaders and mainlanders. Seeing as how the mainlanders have assimilated or died,” Kali said, clearing her throat, “it’s safe to say that one of you that has not been chosen by a tribe member, will be selected.”
