Sunday's Safe Word Shelf: Yes, Mistress by NJ Cole

Summary:
Em Grayson had everything she wanted: the perfect life, the perfect job, nothing to hold her back. Or so she thought until she attended a Bdsm convention in Las Vegas that turned her world upside down and had her questioning everything. Approached by an old friend about a business opportunity in Reno, she's forced to look at her current situation and make life-altering decisions. Violet Jennings is a quiet submissive who longs for acceptance in her life. She begins to find an inner peace while working as a receptionist in a Bdsm club. When she meets the mysterious M, she's driven by a need to serve more than ever before. Together, will these two be able to find the happiness that has eluded them? Will the need to dominate and serve be enough? Or will they find more than they were looking for?

I can't say that f/f stories are out of my comfort zone because I do enjoy them. To say they are outside of my current norm is probably pretty accurate since I am more drawn to m/m relationships. I would say that D/s books are on the fringe of my comfort zone. I read them, I enjoy them, however I don't really seek them out. Truth be told, I just love a great story with interesting characters, settings that I can see in my mind, and well written, intriguing plots. The sex of the characters in the relationships are not a determining factor when it comes to liking or not liking a book. So as I prepared to write this review, I sat down and wondered would I have the same feelings if it had been a m/m or f/m relationship? Yes, I would. I found this story to be amazing. I eagerly awaited Yes, Mistress because of how much I loved Miss Cole's previous writings. I was not disappointed. The chemistry between Em and Violet didn't just exist in their D/s relationship, it also shined through in their connection as women, friends, and lovers. This author is already on my authors-must-read list but if she wasn't, Yes, Mistress would definitely cement her place on it.

I have to admit that all the characters grabbed hold of my heart so deeply that I wouldn't mind seeing them star in their own stories. Just wanted to throw that out there in case Miss Cole is taking requests for future tales (hint, hint).

Yes, Mistress
“Fuck, Mistress!” I listened to her pant and moan as her body shook, almost as if she wasn’t in control of it, until finally she collapsed on top of me in a lifeless heap.

Yes, Master
A special sneak peak at NJ Cole's upcoming novel Yes, Master:
***WARNING: EXTREME ADULT CONTENT***
“Mary, are you a good girl?”

His words made butterflies erupt in my stomach and seem to fly out from between my legs. “Are you, Mary?” he repeated.

I don’t know why I responded the way I did, but I said, “Yes.”

“Then be a good girl and use your hands to help me with this little problem.”

I’d never actually given a hand job before. I’d used my hand to get a guy hard but never long enough for him to finish. “I, uh … I don’t know what to do.” I felt my cheeks blush.

“Just like you’ve had been doing, Mary.”

I trembled as I brought my hand up and down his shaft. “Rub your hand over the head, good girl,” he groaned. I did as he told me and was surprised when fluid leaked from the tip instantly. “It’s been a while,” he said by way of explanation, and warning apparently, because not two minutes later he groaned, “You’re going to want to get a tissue, good girl.”

I leaned forward to get a tissue from the night stand on the other side of him. I was still jerking him off with one hand, and because it was such a far reach, when I stretched for the tissue, my breast touched the head of his penis. Colton let out a strangled yelp, and before I could even pull back, I felt something warm and wet on my blouse. I stood up quickly, but apparently, he wasn’t finished because several more streams of the warm fluid shot into the air. One landed right in the middle of my shirt, and the other fell onto the back of my hand that was still gripping him firmly.

“Motherfucker,” he grunted as the last stream shot from his body.

By the time I’d examined his tanned calves, the masculinity of his
skin was lingering in the air between us. He smelt sensational, and I found
myself uncontrollably breathing in as I rose.

Now curious to see more, I kept going. But as I began to move, an
odd sensation of warmth radiating from him came over me; it was almost
like an invisible hand caressing my skin. My heart fluttered at the idea
of it, and suddenly blood was rushing to all the wrong places as I felt an
unexpected thrill of anticipation.

After tracing his body all the way up to his chest, my wandering
eyes didn’t seem to want to stop, and they were soon up to his neck and
following the stubble along his jaw, right up to his light brown hair.

And then he spoke. The sound of his voice jolted me from my
daydream and pulled my gaze to his.

“Addison!” I gasped as our eyes collided.

From the moment the name left my lips, my eyes widened ... stared
... and became lost in his. As a rush of airy weightlessness floated me
from the floor, suddenly everything felt more enhanced, more real, like
something inside me had suddenly woken up.

It was an intoxicating feeling and the longer I stood entranced, the
further his beautiful blue eyes reached into mine. Somehow they were
knocking on the door to my heart, stirring something so powerful it made
me want to cry and laugh at the same time and, for a brief second, there
was something in his eyes that made me feel complete.

Suddenly his brows squeezed then softened. “Ah ... um ... sorry about
the electric shock.” He smiled. “But who’s Addison?”

My throat tightened as warmth flushed my cheeks. Who the hell
was Addison?

Embarrassment pulled my eyes from his. “Oh,” I said, choking on my
words, “Um ... ah ... no ... I don’t know anyone called Addison ... I mean, um ... ”

“Oh!” He smiled cheekily as he leaned towards me and whispered.
“You sounded so convinced I was him ... I thought for a second I could
be. I mean, if you wanted me to be.”

My face shot back to his, words jamming in my throat as I stared.
Who was this guy, this stranger? In just a few seconds he’d turned my soul
inside out, and now he was charming me with his words as well.

As his lips rose into a smile, I couldn’t help but smile back. But panic
quickly returned to my constricted throat as that name re-entered my head.

Suddenly aware of the warmth still creeping across my face, I managed
to pull my eyes from his again and divert my gaze. Addison, Addison, who
the hell was Addison? I couldn’t budge the name from my thoughts.

As I stood fidgeting, I could feel him staring, waiting for me to say
something, anything. After taking a breath, I shifted my gaze and we
locked eyes again as I spoke. “Um,” I said, swallowing hard, “I must be
mistaken ... sorry.”
