Blog Tour: Ann, Not Annie by Sage Steadman

Title: Ann, Not Annie
Author: Sage Steadman
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Young Adult
Expected Release Date: September 22, 2017

Summary:
Ann, not Annie, is tired of her nominal existence and has vowed to turn things around by dating the hottest guy in school, Jacob Waters. Easier said than done since Jacob isn’t even aware she exists. The truth is, due to Ann’s lively temper she spends more time in detention with the rest of the school rejects than she does fantasizing about Jacob Waters wearing spandex.

Her best friend and devout alien believer, Lisa, doesn’t like the changes she’s seeing in her BFF. Neither does Danny Feller, a fellow detention inmate and resident lost boy who has started keeping an extra watchful and unwanted eye on Ann.

When a chance encounter in an empty hallway changes everything, Ann finds all her dreams coming true and she is well on her way to living the perfect life she’s always wanted. But appearances aren’t always what they seem and Ann is going to have to face not just cold hard facts, but also her past.

What is the biggest influence/interest that brought you to this genre?
Growing up I loved Lois Lowry. “The Giver” and “Number the Stars” were two of my favorite books. But then I stopped reading Young Adult and didn’t come back to it until I was in college and someone recommended I read Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel “Speak.” The book opened up YA literature for me again and shortly after that I picked up John Green’s “An Abundance of Katherines,” from the bookstore shelf and that was it for me. I was hooked.

When writing a book, what is your favorite part of the creative process(outline, plot, character names, editing, etc)?
I love almost all of it. I love every part where I get to be creative. From the first spark of inspiration, to discovering the characters and creating an outline, to writing, to rewriting, to cover design to ad design. Anything that requires creativity, i’m in. The only thing that can get tedious is the editing. Those are long days.

When reading a book, what genre do you find most interesting/intriguing?
I love so many. I really read all of it. It’s less about genre and more about what the book is about. I love true to life stories. I’m much more of a contemporary reader than a fantasy. And if there is humor in it, then sign me up.

If you could co-author with any author, past or present, who would you choose?
I don’t even know if I can answer this because I’m sooo not worthy (see answer to question 1).  I’m co-writing with Lauren T. Hart on something right now though and it’s a lot of fun because we have the same dry sense of humor and can build on each other’s ideas. I love getting a chapter back from her that she’s re-written because she’s managed to take my idea and make it 10x funnier. If you haven’t read her book yet, The Aeon Star, I highly recommend. After you get my book, of course.

Have you always wanted to write or did it come to you "later in life"?
It did come later in life…I’ve always written, but it never occurred to me that I would want to do it as a career. I knew I always wanted to help people and connect with them so I got my Master’s in Social Science so I could do counseling, which I still love to do but It’s not something I can do full time. I need lots of time to be in my own little world.

She is also the co-author of the gritty and inspiring historical fiction novel, “Upon Destiny’s Song,” alongside classical guitarist, Mike Ericksen, and has penned an article on teen cutting for Canadian Magazine, “Edmonton’s Child.” She has recently produced a stunning and thought-reflecting novella entitled, “The Waking Dream.” Sage is heralded as a talented writer who tackles her novels with a witty, raw and honest approach. Review Tour: Hard Time by CF White

Title: Hard Time
Author: CF White
Series: Responsible Adult #2
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: September 5, 2017
Publisher: Pride Publishing
Summary:
Love isn't always responsible.

After Micky O’Neill is remanded in custody for breaching his court order, his already tempestuous relationship with Dan Peters is tested to the limits.

Having to battle their way through a court case that could end with Micky in jail, social workers breaking up the family home, and the return of Micky’s deadbeat father, it seems everything is set to destroy their relationship before it even had the chance to start.

With such high stakes involved, not just for Micky but for once-burned, twice-shy Dan, they both have to learn that falling in love isn’t always responsible.

We left Mickey in book 1(Misdemeanor) facing jail time after a breach of court order.  Now we find them living with that possible future over their heads.  Will Mickey and Dan be able to survive the ordeal and come out stronger or will it be too much?

I found myself enjoying Hard Time even more than the first book which is not something I am often able to say, sequels by definition are often inferior because the characters are already established and not entirely new to the reader so it will lack what I like to call the anticipation factor.  This is not true in this case.  I loved how even though this is fiction and most of the scenarios are not your every day plot devices, the author meshes these with Mickey and Dan's typical relationship challenges.  Of course how the issues that are not the norm being balanced with that threat of jail is really beautiful to witness.

I won't give away too much as I'm not a spoiler kind of gal but I will say, you won't be disappointed.  If you loved Misdemeanor than you are in for a real treat with Hard Time and if you are like me and found a few moments of frustration in book one then you are going to be blown away with book number two.  From beginning to end the author had me sucked in and I knew there was just no way I would be able to function properly before reaching that last page.  CF White is definitely an author I look forward to exploring.

RATING:

Author Bio:
Brought up in a relatively small town in Hertfordshire, C F White managed to do what most other residents try to do and fail—leave.

Studying at a West London university, she realised there was a whole city out there waiting to be discovered, so, much like Dick Whittington before her, she never made it back home and still endlessly searches for the streets paved with gold, slowly coming to the realisation they’re mostly paved with chewing gum. And the odd bit of graffiti. And those little circles of yellow spray paint where the council point out the pot holes to someone who is supposedly meant to fix them instead of staring at them vacantly whilst holding a polystyrene cup of watered-down coffee.

She eventually moved West to East along that vast District Line and settled for pie and mash, cockles and winkles and a bit of Knees Up Mother Brown to live in the East End of London; securing a job and creating a life, a home and a family.

Having worked in Higher Education for most of her career, a life-altering experience brought pen back to paper after she’d written stories as a child but never had the confidence to show them to the world. Having embarked on this writing malarkey, CF White cannot stop. So strap in, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride...

Pre-Order Tour: Unfiltered by Leigh Lennon

Title: Unfiltered
Author: Leigh Lennon
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Expected Release Date: September 15, 2017
Summary:
Justine

I never will get my happy ending. With my past threatening to ruin the possibility of love in my future, I keep every man at arm’s length. Nick appears out of thin air, becoming a part of my life instantly, leaving me breathless and wanting more. The pain that haunts me is still present, but Nick is worth the risk. When he promises me forever; can I trust him?

Nick

Justine makes me see that a forever is in reach with her. She keeps telling me she is hard to love; yet I find it quite easy. Once I break down her walls, she finally lets me in. But, I have a secret of my own which can expose her to the demons that destroyed me in the past. However, with Justine, I will do anything and everything to make her mine.

Nick
Justine is my future and I can’t imagine a life without her as my future. She is nervous about the next step yet I won’t let her go that easy. “Are you really that uncertain of us?”

“No, it’s not that. I’m not uncertain of us, I am uncertain of me, of me ruining this by being well, me!”

Leaning forward, with an affliction of righteous anger fueling me, I snap, “I fucking hate when you put yourself down like that Justine,” Her eyes instantly shift in dilation over my brashness, which has never been shown to her.

“Whoa, buddy,” she says as a warning. “Don’t you see? I am scared that I will be the one to screw this up, that is all.” She asks, her hands shaking. I grab them to bring calm to her.

“I am doing all I can to show you I am not like those that abandoned you in the past. Don’t you see that?” I look away, trying to not attach myself to the hurt in her eyes, placed by others, but I am not the one who placed all that crap there. “I haven’t had a lot of long-lasting relationships. You once told me that you suspected Rafe stepped out on you well before you left him.”

She looks down, as if she was silently telling me she hates the direction of this conversation. “Yes, that is true.”

“I think this is affecting you more than you’re willing to admit. And sure, this relationship of ours is moving fast, but I think when you are our age, you just don’t care about the petty shit you do when you are twenty. We have something special, Justine.”

“Yes, I agree.”

“But you’re still scared,” I press for an answer.

“Hell yes, I am scared. You came out of nowhere right when I wrote off being able to love again.”

“You are too damn proud of a woman. You don’t have to act all macho with me.”

“But I have had to do just that for so long. Rafe was a shitty husband and a really shitty dad until Hildy came around. And how do you think that made me feel. He wouldn’t change for the kids and myself but with her, he did. Which I guess is good, she wouldn’t put up with the half-assed dad stuff. But he wouldn’t change for me. So yes, I have been on my own, even during our marriage, on my own.”

“And that has made you the mom and woman you are today. But more so, honey, that has affected how you let someone love you. I am not Rafe and you are not alone anymore.”

“So, what does that mean?” she asks skeptically.

“I’m not leaving you. I’m here and we are going to make this work because I love you. I can’t see growing old with anyone else but you. So please let your guard down when it comes to me.”

Justine is not one to cry but she has let her exterior hardness down and tears were openly flowing. “I never thought I needed to hear those words before, but it is such a relief to hear them from you,” she says.

I kneel in front of her and bring her to the floor with me. “Let me take on that burden. Can you believe me when I say I won’t leave you? No matter how much you push me away; you are stuck with me.”

“Yes,” she says as I embrace her. In that moment, I feel every worry receding from her body because she has found her person and I have found mine.
