Turning Point Series by NR Walker

Point of No Return(#1)
Summary:
Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives—a smart, tough, closeted gay man. When he falls for his gym instructor, it’s not his colleagues he should be worried about finding out…it’s the bad guys.

Matthew Elliot is one of LA’s best detectives. He's been labelled the golden boy of the Fab Four: a team of four detectives who've closed down drug-rings all over the city. He’s smart, tough and exceptionally good at his job.

He's also a closeted gay man.

Enter Kira Takeo Franco, the new boxing coach at the gym. Matthew can't deny his immediate attraction to the man his fellow cops know as Frankie. But in allowing himself to fall in love with a man known to his colleagues, Matthew risks outing them both.

Matt and Kira work to keep their relationship and private lives hidden from Matt’s very public life, fearing it would be detrimental to their careers.

But it's not the other cops who Matthew should be worried about finding out his deepest, darkest secret…it's the bad guys.

Breaking Point(#2)
Summary:
A fight for what’s right becomes a fight for his life.

As guilt plagues him, Matthew Elliott’s world begins to spiral out of control. The harder he holds on, the more it slips through his fingers, and he’s helpless to stop it.

Entering into the underground cage-fighting scene, he starts out fighting for what’s right. The deeper he gets, the more guilt consumes him – the more pain he takes for his penance, and he’s soon fighting for more than justice.

He’s fighting for love.

He’s fighting for his life.

Rating:

Starting Point(#3)
Summary:
After going past the point of no return and finally reaching breaking point, the only thing Matthew Elliott can do now is start over.

Matthew Elliott is a recovering man. As an ex-cop and ex-fighter, his new job teaching kids at the local community gym about drug awareness and self-defence, is a little bit of both. His new focus on helping street kids is helping him heal, and with Kira by his side, he’s making strides.

Brother and sister, Rueben and Claudia, are homeless kids and they're very much alone. As they strike a chord with Matt, he does everything in his power to help them.

But when Ruby and Claude need more help than he bargained for, it stops being about work, and starts being about home.

The day he met Kira, Matt’s life changed direction, and it’s only now he realises that everything he’s been through was a lead up to this. It was never about endings. His life, his purpose, was just beginning.

Rating:

I fell in love with Matt and Kira from the first time they met in the gym.  As good as each story is and the mysteries in the books are, it was watching their relationship and their individual characters evolve throughout the series.  I think it's safe to say that Matt grew the most between the two from book 1 to book 3, but Kira came into is own as well.  The supporting cast helped complete each story in a way that isn't always easy to write, whether they were in almost every chapter or only in a scene or two, they always not only added to the plot but also to Matt and Kira's character development.  This is definitely a must read for those who are fans of the M/M Romantic/Mystery genre.  NR Walker was already on my authors-to-watch list but this only cemented her place in said list.

However, no job is ever that simple. When he’s forced to spend more time with her, the lines between business and pleasure are blurred. And once Jess’s life comes under threat, they have to make a decision, can they both overcome Jess’s past?

“I won’t apologize for behaving like a gentleman,” I snap.
Both brows rise and she crosses her arms across her chest. “Is that what that was? Behaving like a gentleman? Because it looked to me like you were acting like… like…”
     “Say it.”
     “Like a fucking jilted lover.”
Godammit. Now I’ve got visions of all the things I would do to her if I really were her lover. I can just imagine peeling off that tight t-shirt, taking down those little shorts. Tearing into her tights. Feeling that warm skin against mine. Tasting it. I hold back a groan and focus on her blazing eyes. And not on the way the street lights highlight her slightly golden skin, or brings out tiny blonde streaks in her hair.
“You know what, it’s too much. Just back off, please.”
     I stiffen. What the hell?
“Just because I’m handling your account and you come to the bar a lot doesn’t mean we’re friends. And just because I—”
“Hit me in the head with a door?”
“I said I was sorry! Look, I think you should find somewhere else to drink from now on. The regulars won’t welcome you back.”
Christ, if I’d been thinking with my head instead of my cock, I would have played this whole thing better. I am better than this. Problem is, if I’m not following her or spending time with her, she’s all I think about. I have been acting crazy. And I’m just about to screw up the best paying case of my life. I need to salvage this. Fast.
“I’m not going anywhere.” I take a step forward and see the flutter of panic in her eyes. “I like you.
“Hunter—” Her hands land on my chest as I come closer. If I glance down will I see smoke rising? As it feels as though her palms must be singeing a hole in my shirt. I don’t even want to think about how hot and hard my cock is.
     “I don’t know why, Jess, but I can’t stop thinking about you…”
At some point I’ve stopped lying. Shit, what is it about this woman that makes me lose control of my mouth?
“Well, I don’t like you,” Jess declares.
”Sure about that?” I murmur as I lower my head.
She looks up at me, the whole deer caught in the headlights expression on her face, and I feel gratified she’s as lost as I am. If I don’t get to taste those lips, I’m going to go insane. I need to know.
“Just one taste,” I whisper against her lips.
She nods. I think. Well, she doesn’t move. Jess seems to be frozen but her fingers dig into my chest and I take that as the go ahead. I skim my lips over hers and dart my tongue out to sample the seam of her lips. She tastes so good. My body is on fire with need. Hands landing on her hips, I hold her close and pin her forcefully against me. She gasps, giving me the opportunity to take her mouth in a deep, desperate kiss. Her tongue meets mine and I close my eyes so I can concentrate on the sensation.
Jess bunches my shirt in her hands. I think I hear a button snap. But it’s not enough. If I’m going to do this once, I’m going to do it properly. I bring my hands up to her face and cup both cheeks, bending her back marginally. She’s vulnerable and open to me, her breasts are crushed against my chest and her heart thuds wildly against my skin.
Rocking my hips into her, I press deeper still, holding her face vehemently. The tiniest moan echoes between us and I answer it with a groan.
“So good.” I break away briefly to drag my lips across her cheek to her ear. “You taste so good.”

Midnight Eternal by NJ Cole

Summary:
Oliver Durant finally feels complete. With his butterfly now wearing his collar, he begins to introduce her to his world, taking her to his BDSM club and introducing her to his family. Things progress rapidly and she feels safe and welcome with them and his species. The longer they are together, the more she starts to become like his kind, offering him hope that he will be able to be with his mate for the rest of his life.
While Rebecca Summers is new to the BDSM lifestyle, she adapts quickly and serves her Master well, giving him everything he asks for. She loves pleasing him and spending time with his family, who has given her the sense of belonging she’s yearned for since her parents’ tragic deaths. She can’t imagine denying Oliver anything, and even asks to undergo the genetic transformation to become one of his species. Days before the event, they are given some news that changes everything.
Can these two find their happily ever after?
Or does fate have other plans?

“I want you in the waiting position in the playroom. My butterfly may take as long as she likes, but if I’m kept waiting, there will be a consequence. One minute wearing nipple clamps for each minute sounds fair.” She nodded her head and began to move. “Oh, and I’ll be paddling that ass and flogging that pussy while we wait for your timer to count down.”
Her eyes were wide. I held up my phone with the screen facing her as the timer changed from seventeen to eighteen seconds.
“Oh, shit!” she yelped and took off toward the playroom.
“That’s an added minute for language, young lady,” I called after her.
“Fuck,” she whispered under her breath. It was much too low for a human to hear, but I wasn’t human and she knew it.
     “Two minutes.”
There was no response that time and I couldn’t help but chuckle. I loved how she was hurrying, but it was no secret that she loved spankings and nipple play, though the ones I had in mind today had a little more bite than the ones I’d used yesterday.
I stepped into the viewing room to undress, and because I was watching through the monitor, I knew the moment she was ready. At Bocaj speed, I entered the playroom to find her kneeling in waiting position. “Little one, you took four minutes. I am quite impressed, although I’ll have to add on the two minutes for your potty mouth.” I walked around her. “Inspection pose.”
I watched as she shifted into position. The scent of her arousal had already filled the air, and when she moved, I was able to see the visible evidence. “So wet for me. You want my cock, don’t you, little one?”
She knew not to answer, although a whimper escaped her lips as I slid my fingers through her wet folds. “On your knees,” I commanded as I walked over to the cabinet and pulled out nipple clamps and a flogger. It wasn’t as soft as the one she loved, but it still had soft fronds so it wouldn’t mark permanently.
Holding the items in my hands, I headed over to the couch and sat on the black leather. “Crawl to me.”
It was completely unnecessary, as I knew she understood her place. I just liked watching her look at me as she moved the short distance across the floor.
She stared into my eyes as I placed first one then the other clamp on her nipples. Holding her breath for a moment, she allowed her body to adjust to the pinching sensation.
“Up on my lap, over my knees.”
The sight before me was spectacular—her milky white ass ready and waiting. I brought my hand down on her smooth cheek, leaving a pink mark in the shape of my hand. “Beautiful.”

I went in to this story knowing it would be an entertaining read because I've loved every word written by this author, however, I didn't really expect it to surpass Midnight Caller(#1 in the series), but it has.  In all aspects, character development, emotions explode all over the place,  and of course the hotness level has completely blown the thermometer off the wall.  Now I will say that this is not for everyone, it is a Dom/Sub story throughout and I know not everyone enjoys or understands the lifestyle.  Also, as good as ME is by itself, you really do need to read Midnight Caller first.  Quite frankly, if you haven't read MC, what are you waiting for?  Oliver and Bec are definitely worth a look, or two, or three, or . . . well, you get the idea.

Touched by the Sandman by Beverly Ovalle

Title – Touched by the Sandman
Author – Beverly Ovalle
Genre – Erotic Paranormal
Publication Date – March 20, 2014
Length (Pages/# Words) – 34
Publisher – Boroughs Publishing Group
Cover Artist – Boroughs Publishing Group

Summary:
~A lonely woman's torrid sexual dreams and fantasy partner await her as a dominant reality in another dimension~
The sandman visits those that need him, assisting them to sleep. Until one night he meets a woman that he cannot help but return to time after time.
She is lonely. He comes to her as she drifts off to sleep, the man of her dreams. Awake or asleep, which is her reality?
He knows she is the one meant for him. He will find a way to make both of their dreams come true.

The darkness blurred and shimmered, bringing to life a man of moonlight and darkness: Aryne.

Before him Aryne could see her, lying in bed, tears of loneliness staining her pillow. She made his heart ache. He softly stepped to her side. His hand touched her face and gently pushed back her hair. He leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, turning her dreams from sadness to joy. Her body arched toward his touch as the skim of his hand, the heat of his skin traced the edges of her curves. He stepped back…and then within the shimmer of dreams disappeared.

Night after night her loneliness cried to him. Unable to resist, he came to her. Subtly he inserted himself into her dreams, into her arms. Aryne knew it was wrong. As a guide, his job was to bring sweet, peaceful dreams. But no one affected him like she had. He was unable to resist comforting her, drawing her into his arms, covering her body with his…but only in her dreams. There Aryne stole the passion from her lips, igniting an ache in his body that would not go away.

Touching her shattered him. He knew instinctively that her touch would be his downfall. Her touch could keep him here in this splinter of his world, isolated as all of the Outcasts were. Generations had gone by; those exiled had died long ago, their children mixing amongst the races of the universe.

He had tried to stay away, fearing this. He was adrift, swept away, drowning in her passion, breaths away from losing himself. Giving in, acknowledging the power she unknowingly had over him would condemn him, keep him here if she was unable to travel to his world. Very few could navigate between worlds. And this world would drain his power rather than enhance it. Even the short time he spent there took its toll on him, the drain only in abeyance when he was in her arms. Try as he might, he could not resist her siren call. Only by controlling her and the passion between them could he make sure that he would not become lost. Lost in her. Trapped forever in her world.

He had done his best, gentling her to his hand, to his control. She knew the unspoken rules, knew the consequences. He played them out in her dreams, a dark symphony of passion and restraint. Perhaps unforgivable for a guide, but he could not resist. And just her body was no longer enough. Eventually he would capture her heart and soul.

A man of shadows, it would be during the midnight hours of her slumber.

A tale out of practically everyone's dreams, this short story brings you heat, emotion, science fiction/fantasy, and even the hopes of more to come.  A lot packed in to only so few pages but the author manages to make it very enjoyable.  Not much more to say than that without spoilers and I don't do those.  I highly recommend this tale although on a personal level I would have preferred to have had a slightly longer story and that's why I gave it 4 bookmarks instead of 5.

Pickup Men & Let It Ride (Pickup Men 1 & 2) by LC Chase

Pickup Men
Summary:
It takes a pissed-off Brahma bull named Shockwave to show rodeo pickup man Marty Fairgrave the cold hard truth about champion bull rider Tripp Colby: Tripp will never leave the safety of his closet or acknowledge Marty in public. Sometimes loving someone just isn’t enough, and after a year of hiding what they are, Marty finally sees the light—and it’s no longer shining on Tripp.

Tripp Colby would do anything for Marty. Well . . . almost. He’s never loved anyone before, and isn’t quite sure how to handle it now. But he knows Marty is his everything, and in order to win him back, Tripp will have to overcome his darkest fears and step into the light.

But no matter Tripp’s intentions, the cost might be too high and the effort too late for these two cowboys to ride off into the sunset.

I fell in love with Marty and Tripp from the very beginning.  Even when Tripp wasn't exactly stepping forward the way a lover should, I still felt for him.  The story is an even blend of romance, cowboys, rodeo, drama, and even humor.  Well written characters, a plot that grabbed my attention immediately, and I was so sorry to see the final page.  It's not easy going for the rodeo pair and their friends but the author definitely makes you want to find out how it ends.

Let It Ride
Summary:
Pickup man Bridge Sullivan is the kind of cowboy everyone wants—as a brother, a friend, a lover. People think he’s straight, but Bridge isn’t one for labels, and when a sexy male paramedic jumpstarts his heart, he charges in with all guns blazing.

New York City transplant Eric Palmer grew up in foster care. While he always had a roof over his head, he never felt love or a sense of belonging . . . until he joined the California rodeo circuit as a paramedic and found a band of brothers who took him in as one of their own. Now, one in particular is making Eric’s pulse race.

When things heat up between Bridge and Eric, Bridge has to prove to Eric he’s not just experimenting with the rougher sex, while Eric must overcome his fears of being unwanted and cast aside. He knows that trusting Bridge may be the key to his happy ever after, but getting in the saddle is much, much easier than learning to let it ride.

I won't lie, I anticipated the pairing of Bridge and Eric from the minute Eric was introduced in Pickup Men.  I was so glad to see that they were given their own story.  There is a lot of between Bridge and Eric that could have been cleared up with true sit down communication but where is the fun in that?  This story held my attention once again from page one through to the end.  I can't wait to see what is brought to us in the next installment.

Summary:
Samantha Wentworth has one mission in life; to get as far away as she possibly can from her troubled past.

When she finds herself on the Louisiana bayou she runs straight into the arms of a very sexy Big Bad Wolf that she just can’t seem to resist.

Will Samantha continue on her journey, or does the full moon have other plans in store for her?

All Ages:
I’d misjudged my mileage, and with no gas gauge, I’d had no way of telling when I’d run out of gas. I’m luckily able to roll my bike to a slow and steady stop off on the shoulder of the road. I shake my head, wanting to give myself a good hard kick for not being more careful. I glance around as I hop off. Figures I am surrounded by nothing but woods and, my guess, swamps, and am nearly twenty miles away from any town. This isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said I would make use of the tent in my saddlebags. I let out an exasperated sigh as I undo the chinstrap to my helmet, yanking it off my head, and let my hair fall around my shoulders. I bite down on my lip and contemplate. I can’t leave my bike here on the side of the road. I can’t walk 20 twenty miles and back just for gas with it already so dark out, either. I have no choice. I’ll walk my bike into the woods and set up camp. People do this all the time, right? No big deal. It’s not like the big bad wolf will jump out and get me.

I gaze into the woods. Darkness has already fallen over the trees. They stand silent and still, as even the animals, it seems, have all gone quiet for the night. I laugh off the thought of the big bad wolf. I guess it’s alligators I have to watch for down here. Or, is it crocodiles? I shiver, put on a brave face, and straddle my bike once more. It’ll take all my strength to waddle it down the ditch and into the woods over the uneven terrain. I figure a short way off the side of the road and into the woods and I should be fine. Enough to be out of the line of traffic, but not enough to get myself terribly lost.

As I wiggle the bike down the small slope, I begin to exert myself on the flat, but rough terrain as I push the bike forward, throwing my petite body into it as much as I can. I grunt as I give one more strong push forward. The bike lurches along slowly as my helmet clangs against the already scratched black paint. I groan, aggravated with myself more than ever for letting the gas tank get bone dry.

“What in the hell are you doing?”

I stop dead in my tracks. I hadn’t heard a single footstep, not even a twig. I swallow hard and throw myself off the bike, flipping out the kickstand as I do.

I turn slowly to see a rugged looking man staring hard at me. His dark washed jeans are splattered with dirt and debris at the bottom, suggesting that he has been romping in the woods beyond. His heavy boots are caked in a layer of thick mud that’s starting to dry in certain spots. He places his hands on his hips, making his leather jacket open to display a well-fitted tee shirt; defined chest muscles are visible even under the moonlight. His gray eyes shine and shimmer under the light of the full moon as they glare at me in an almost threatening way. No, not threatening. Warning me of something, and somehow worried. His brown hair is styled fairly nice, which is surprising considering the five o’clock shadow on his face. He’s much larger than me. Well, almost everyone is larger than me, but he must be over 6 feet tall. Huge, compared to my tiny 5’5” frame.

18+:
I stand up slowly and begin to fight what I’m about to do. I beg myself to sit down, look away, anything, but instead I trail up to her. She doesn’t flinch, doesn’t shudder; strangely, her eyes stay locked onto mine. I take the extra towel from her and draw her body to mine. I hear her left out a small gasp, and I can tell her heart rate has quickened. I bring a hand to her face, letting it trail from her cheek to her neck, all the way to the back of her head. I pull her in for a kiss. A proper one. That feeling I felt before returns as something inside me nearly loses control. My legs begin to feel weak as I realize that she’s kissing me back. It’s as soon as my tongue flickers over hers that I really feel I may lose it. I pull away for a moment and close my eyes. “This is how it’s supposed to be,” I mumble to her. I work to keep myself under control, I remind myself to keep a slower pace, not to rush. I catch a sudden wave of Red’s feelings…the want and need is there, and it makes it more difficult to control myself. I try to relax, remind myself to pace myself but when Red pushes her body into mine, I fully lose any control that I had. Her arms fly around my neck and I do nothing to stop her. Her lips find mine as her hands reach for my belt buckle. She wastes no time in unbuckling and unzipping my jeans. I reach for the last towel and yank it from her body as she pulls my tee shirt off and throws it across the room. She wraps her arms around me again and lets her lips find mine as I wrap my arms around her, lifting her in one swift movement. Her legs immediately cinch around my waist and I steady myself quickly as I push her against the nearest wall. She moans loudly and I feel her nails dig into my back briefly. I begin biting tenderly down her neck in a way that leaves tiny little marks but enough to make her groan with pleasure. I feel all self-control leave my body as I steady her against the wall and begin using my strength to lift her upwards as I move my mouth down her body. I feel her hands tug at my hair as I clamp my teeth down on one of her nipples. She releases another moan and I feel her breathing become choppy as I work my way down her core; kissing, biting, licking, and unable to control myself. I finally find myself in a squat position, I quickly adjust Red’s over my shoulders and I feel her shake. Everything in me wants to have her, every single piece of her right this minute. I need her. Not to just satisfy the raw animal craving that his built up inside me, but because I need every piece of the one thing that I ever wanted and needed so badly. I slow my kisses past her belly button and move to her inner thighs. I look up at her and her eyes catch my gaze. She’s breathing heavily, her legs begin to tremble more as I steady her against the wall as I drop to my knees to maintain my own balance. When my mouth finally latches to her, letting my tongue do the work for me, she releases a noise filled with such intense pleasure that there’s no going back. I need her even more now.

Interesting reworking of Little Red Riding Hood.  Samantha(Red) is definitely not the one we grew up with but she definitely is likable in all her fiesty glory.  Ethan isn't exactly the big bad wolf we grew up with either, he might be big and bad but in a much more delectable way.  The additional characters that have been written in definitely add to the tale in a way that is most enjoyable.  Can't wait to see what the author brings us next in the series.

She is originally from Hamilton, Ohio but calls home where ever the Air Force sends her. She currently resided in Anchorage, Alaska where she finds endless inspiration in the pure Alaskan wilderness. Though the rain can seem endless in the fall, and the constant daylight is a burden in the summers, she considers it a privilege to live there.

When Trista isn’t writing, she loves to spend her time with her family in the vast Alaskan outdoors, plucking away at her old guitar, working out in the gym, or baby her two over-grown Labrador puppies. She loves the great outdoors, the moon, old movies, and music. She loves being creative, practicing her photography, and wildlife. If you need to get in touch with her, since her life is 10 ways of crazy right now, you can always Email her PA. pa@author-trista.com
