Can mankind survive an apocalypse of his own making?

Bailey and Caleb fled civilization in light of impending disaster. Fighting to make their way south, they struggled to rejoin their survivalist friends and relatives. After facing crowds hell-bent on securing supplies… After getting the better of a marauding band of misfits…  The couple arrive back at The Ranch, only to discover the place is deserted. Soon, a lone survivor emerges, explaining the group’s mysterious disappearance and the dangers they face in the ransacked hideaway.

Joining forces, the trio sets to work, restoring order to their desert oasis. Making repairs, as well as plans, they are soon joined by a few who had made a daring escape. Refusing to leave the others behind, tempers flare and lines are drawn, while the young couple struggles to define their relationship. In a desperate attempt to rescue the remainder of their comrades, the group moves into their bunker, prepared to hang on until the bitter end. Will they succeed in saving Bailey’s brothers, as well as the rest of their comrades? Or will the renegade town of Pouty put an end to Lawson once

“I know. Like I said, we’ve only had snow here a few times, an’ I’m not even sure Carson was old enough t’ remember it,” he glanced over at the slumbering boy, not wishing him to see the display the couple would make against the growing daylight.

Shifting her gaze so that she could see the younger male as well, she mused aloud, “Maybe we should enjoy it a bit today. Play in it a little, while we can.”

“Maybe so,” he tightened his grip on her, feeding on her willingness to be held. Pushing his nose against her, he blew warm air across her ear. “I think you may be my snow angel, Bailey,” his voice low, his words were only for her.

She gasped with a wide grin, her breath creating a small amount of fog on the glass, “I thought we were just friends,” she used a finger to make dots in the coating.

1. What is the biggest influence/interest that brought you to this genre?
As a science teacher, I have had the privilege of teaching a few thousand students about the connection between us and the earth. That’s really what the IRREVOCABLE series is about – our place on the planet. Everyone wants to read an end of the world scenario that is exciting, and I think I have given my readers that but for me, it also had to be realistic. That’s what this is – something that COULD happen, or maybe even already is… then throw in a little love story, and I’m totally with it.

2. When writing a book, what is your favorite part of the creative process(outline, plot, character names, editing, etc)?
I have always been a daydreamer, and the most fun comes with playing what I call ‘what if?’ That’s when I play with the story in my head, tracing the characters out and playing the scenes over and over, while changing the parameters of what is happening to discover the motivations and outcomes. It has to be exciting to me, or relevant to the story, or it doesn’t make it onto the page.

3. When reading a book, what genre do you find most interesting/intriguing?
I definitely go for dark action and adventure. I hate tear jerkers, or sappy stories with all rainbows and unicorns. I never pick them on purpose, and they can be the most difficult for me to finish.

4. If you could co-author with any author, past or present, who would you choose?
I have been working with Kelly Cozzone recently, and I think we could have a LOT of fun writing a story together. Of course, the smart answer here is to say someone like… JK Rowling, because that would be awesome and it would really help me climb the latter much faster!

5. Have you always wanted to write or did it come to you ʺlater in lifeʺ?
I had been dreaming of the New Life characters for at least twenty years, but never even thought of publishing the story. Then, when something happened in the news that made my story seem plausible, I took the plunge and put it on paper. I will be forty-five this year, and that is definitely later in life to be heading out on this great adventure.
