This is a standalone story but part of a loosely linked series (Why I Left You and Why I Need You).
“If I were there, I don’t think I’d be able to resist wrapping my arms around you,” Martin said eventually.
Ryan dropped his arm to his stomach and hugged himself. “It’s probably a good thing you’re not here, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure I’d have kissed you by now if you were,” he added.
Martin hummed down the phone, a deep sound that resonated comfortingly in Ryan’s ear.
“I’d like to taste your lips,” Martin said. “And run my fingertips over your skin.”
Ryan half-closed his eyes, imagining what it would be like to press his lips against Martin’s. In the photos he’d seen, Martin’s lips were thick and smooth. He touched his own face lightly, imagining his fingertips were Martin’s, broad and strong.
“I’d like that,” he said.
“I’d kiss my way down your throat,” Martin whispered, his voice becoming low and husky again. “Slip my hands beneath your…”
“T-shirt,” Ryan supplied, mimicking Martin’s words with his own hand, shivering as he touched his skin. “I’d be undoing your tie… slowly.”
Martin chuckled. “I’m wearing a tie in this fantasy, am I?”
“Mmmm-hmmm. Definitely.”
“And a shirt?”
“Yes. It’s going to take me a while to undo each button. I’ll have to pause between each one to kiss your chest.”

Colette’s personal love story began at university, where she met her future husband. An evening of flirting, in the shadow of Lancaster castle, eventually led to a fairytale wedding.
