💻Blog Release💻: Finding a Way Through Loss by Heather C York

Summary:

A short collection of poems I've written to help me deal with the loss of my mother who passed away a few months ago and as her 24/7 caregiver for 20 years and primary for another 10 prior to that, her loss was felt very deeply. I had so many emotions and thoughts bouncing around in my head and heart so I took to my laptop and let them out.

Some of these writings will be more personal and some more general. Grief hits us all differently and processing it has many forms and paths, there is no right or wrong way to digest the pain. If even only one of my poems helps you process the emotions you are feeling then I am glad to have opened up my heart.

Mom
I miss you more than words can say
Your light continues to shine
Even though you are gone
It shines because your love
Charged the lamp with endless energy

Where that light and energy came from
No one seems to know
It was who you always were
The light may still shine around us
But we would rather have you here

That is selfish of us I know
But we were better people
When you were near
Simply because your presence
Made our smiles full of joy

I miss you more than words can say
We continue to try every day
To make the light you left behind be enough
Most days we fall short but still we try
For your light gave us hope, love, and the want to try

Every Day
Every day you were there
Every day we knew could be your last
Every day we did our routine
Every day we knew routine could change

Every day came and went
Every day finally stopped
Every day is never the same
Every day you are not here

Every day has become a new routine
Every day the tears erupt
Every day the laughter is light
Every day is just Every day

Born and raised in a small town in western Wisconsin I enjoy the peace and quiet.  Farmer’s daughter by upbringing turned caregiver out of necessity but also want, I spend most of my time helping wherever I can.  I always had the dream of being an author and though things have not turned out as I had always dreamt I have not given up on that dream and one day I know I’ll fulfill it because chasing one’s dreams is what life is all about.

Lover of all things Star Wars, George Lucas is my God, lol.  I was 4 when I first saw the original back in 1977 and a devoted fan ever since.  May the 4th and Revenge of the Fifth are celebrated holidays in my house just as I would celebrate Christmas and Halloween.  We can’t all like the same things but beware before badmouthing the galaxy far far away in my presence, I may be a Rebel and Jedi at heart, there are times that bring out the Sith in me.

I read and watch all genres but LGBTQ+ is my jam so if you are looking for a new read be sure and check out my blog, Padme’s Library where I feature mostly MM stories of all genres and tropes but I also do a Friday Film Adaptation of all sorts.
