Release Blitz: Shadow Game by Kay Maree

Title: Shadow Game
Author: Kay Maree
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 25, 2017
Summary:
Have you ever been scared of your own Shadow?

A broken relationship.

A past best forgotten.

A chance meeting.

Who is threatening her? What do they want with her?

Can the tall, dark and sexy Detective save her from her Shadows, or will they both be caught up in her nightmare?

Leia
"Hello?" I hold the phone to my ear with a shoulder while I sit on the edge of my bed trying to pull on a pair of black jeans. Cursing myself for buying the tightest fucken jeans ever made, grrr.

"Leia"

"Oh, hi Ryan." I'm breathless, thanks to the wrestling match with my pants, and a little confused as to why he's ringing me. I glance at the clock on my nightstand wondering if I'm running late for our date.

"Leia, we need to talk."

Fuck, that doesn't sound good. I stop struggling with my jeans, reach up and grab my phone. I inhale and exhale slowly, wondering where this conversation is going. But, in all honesty, I knew it was coming.

"What's up?" I hope my voice sounds void of any, and all, emotion.

He chuckles nervously before he goes on, "how do you make those two words sound like a business discussion?" he mumbles lowly.

I sit up a little straighter when I hear his words. I don't think he meant for me to hear him, but I did, and it kind of hurt. He makes me sound so cold. He keeps speaking so I don't get a chance to say anything.

"I'm just going to cut to the chase, I don't think this thing we have going on is working."

I nod as he keeps speaking even though he can't see me. "I would really like to use that old saying of ‘It's not you, it's me,' but I won't lie to you - it is definitely you. I didn't say that to hurt your feelings, and you're a nice girl, but I just don't see this going anywhere."

He hurriedly speaks the last words, and I wipe away the single tear which has slipped down my cheek, determined not to let him know his words hurt. I take another small breath in and out, slowly release it so my voice doesn't break when I speak. "Okay."

"Okay?" He sounds puzzled.

"Well, what would you like me to say? You have obviously made up your mind so, there is no point arguing with you." I note the edge to my voice.

"You must have known this was coming, Leia. You're so unresponsive and closed off. How the hell am I supposed to get to know you when you block me at every turn?"

"Well, I guess it's not your issue anymore, Ryan. You can…"

He cuts me off before I can finish the sentence. I feel anger slide up and down my spine wondering why the fuck I put up with this prick for the last four months.

"Look I'm sorry, okay. Fuck, I didn't ring to upset you I just thought…"

I cut him right back the fuck off. Fuck him, and fuck this conversation, or whatever the fuck it is.

Kitten Mine by Kay Maree

Title: Kitten Mine
Author: Kay Maree
Series: Mine #2
Genre: Romantic Suspense, 18+
Release Date: July 1, 2017
Summary:
KATHERINE -
The day Antonio walked into my CafΓ© I knew things were about to change. He had this presence about him, and I could see shadows in his eyes of things I could never understand. But he was like a force of nature, taking what he wanted, when he wanted. He was big, strong, and had eyes the color of the finest chocolate. Everything he made me feel, scared the hell out of me. When he opened his mouth, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to slap him or kiss him, he made every nerve in my body come alive. But, I have a secret. I didn’t want to let him go but its better this way. I have let enough people down in my life so, I tried to distance myself, and push him away. I never thought I could love, or trust, any man after my father left, but Antonio was here to prove me wrong, and he wasn’t going to back down.

Kitten: Antonio was determined to take me to my knees and crack me wide open.

ANTONIO -
Katherine was the kind of woman you could only ever dream up in your wildest fantasies. A woman who oozed sex kitten with every sway of her hips, and she had the attitude to go with it. With hair like fire, and eyes as blue as the sky on a clear summer's day, that body of hers I swear had a direct line to my cock. Then, she pushed me away, but I don’t go down that easy. I didn’t get to where I am today without fighting tooth and nail for it. Katherine was mine and no matter how long it took me, I was going to make her see she belonged to me, just like I already belonged to her. I know she is hiding something, I can see it in her eyes every time she looks at me. I don’t care what I have to do, or how long it takes, I will find out what it is. My kitten isn’t the only one with secrets.

Antonio: Katherine brought me to my knees, and I was going to take her down with me.

After slamming my bedroom door shut, I dive on the bed, and bury my head in the pillows, hugging the teddy bear from my father close to my chest while trying to block out the screaming going on downstairs.

“Why would you think it’s ok to take your little sister to that party?" Mom yells.

“Mom, nothing happened." My sister’s words sound slightly slurred.

“That’s not the point. You’re older, you know better than this, and instead of looking after her you got drunk and left her to fend for herself.”

“So, I’m not supposed to have fun because I have to look out for her?"

“You’re supposed to take some responsibility and look out for your sister”

Pushing my head deeper into my pillows so I can’t hear them anymore, I wish I could take back telling mom where I was because I know my sister will turn this around on me. It’s always the way. Suddenly, my door flies open. Ashley, my sister, is standing in the doorway with a pissed off look on her face.

“This is all your fault. If you had kept your mouth shut, none of this would have happened.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t think mom would have been home from work.”

“You’re the reason everything has turned to shit. You’re the reason daddy left and now mom says we have to move back to Newcastle. You’re the reason I won’t be able to see my boyfriend anymore. When are you going to stop being mommy’s little girl and grow the fuck up?"

She rushes at me and I cower. She grabs me roughly, digging her nails into my arms. I cry out as I feel her nails break the skin

“My friends are right about you, you’re pathetic and ugly. No wonder you have no friends.”

“That’s not true I have, Brooklyn." I defend myself in a weak voice.

“She won’t be your friend when she finally wises up and sees how pathetic you really are.”

I gaze through tear-filled eyes into the eyes of my sister, not recognizing who she is anymore. Ever since daddy left, she has been different. I use to look up to her and wanted to be just like her when I got older. With her beautiful blonde hair and tanned skin, size 8 figure. She’s perfect. Me? I have fiery red hair, pale skin and curves.

Her words hurt every bit as much as the things she does to me. I feel like I owe her, not being the good sister she deserved. I’m not clever like Ashley either. I do okay in school, but I’m not the smartest person. I don’t have a lot of friends. I have Brooklyn and when we don’t have school we’re constantly together. I’m not sure how I’ll cope if we move away from here.

I run my finger over the recent cut on my wrist hidden under my watch, Ashley looks down and notices what I’m doing.

“Why don’t you save us all the trouble and do it already, I’m sick of hearing you cry every night. You're broken and that will never change."

She pushes me back onto the bed and I watch through tear-filled eyes as she leaves my bedroom. I wait until I hear the door shut before I crawl under the covers, pull my diary out, and let the worthlessness I feel out.

Dear Diary,

Why did I open my mouth, why do I ruin everything I touch?
It’s all my fault. If only I was a better sister, maybe then Ashley would like me.
No wonder daddy left. I’m so pathetic.
I vow from this moment on, the only person I will trust is Brooklyn until she realizes I’m not worth the trouble and she walks away too.
I will build a wall around myself, one brick at a time, and keep pushing forward.
I will try to be stronger than the blade I hold in my hand.
I hate myself.

Angel: "I WANTED TO BE THE LAST THING HE TASTED AT NIGHT, AND THE FIRST THING HE TOUCHED IN THE MORNING"

Dom: "SHE BROUGHT ME TO MY KNEES, AND I NEVER WANTED TO GET BACK UP"

My Angel turns toward Antonio and graces him with the biggest smile I have seen, it’s one of those smiles which would brighten up the darkest day. My stomach knots with a sting of possessiveness. Jealousy. I should be the one receiving that smile. I give her hand a little squeeze trying to draw her attention back to me. I know it’s irrational, but I don’t care. I’m a selfish bastard and that smile is mine.

Shit, I’m fucked and by the look Antonio is giving me he knows it too.

“And your name?” she says jolting me out of my thoughts

“Oh, I’m sorry. Dominic and it’s a pleasure meeting you, Angel” I turn her hand over in mine lift it to my lips and plant a gentle kiss. Her hand is so soft I don’t want to release her. As each second passes, it gets harder to regain my control.

“Dominic,” she repeats in her breathless voice again. Then something changes, her body tenses up and the expression on her face becomes blank. She snatches her hand from mine and backs up a step as she mumbles, “I’m sorry, I better get back to work.” With those words, she turns and hurries away.

What the fuck just happened? I know she felt what I felt, so why is she pulling back? I watch her walk away noticing the sexy sway of her hips. Fuck she’s gorgeous! I know I’m not finished with this little one just yet, actually, I’m only just getting started. I remove one of my business cards from my pocket, drink the now lukewarm coffee in one gulp then slowly make my way over to my skittish Angel at the counter. Her back is to me so I murmur her name. I watch as she tenses up before her shoulders loosen. She turns around with a smile on her face. This is not like the one she had before, this one is forced. I’m not exactly sure what happened in the last five minutes to cause me to lose her, but I’m going to find out. “I just wanted to give you this. My contact details are on there and the name of my club.” I slide the card across the counter

and her eyes widen. “Maybe we can grab a drink tonight, your friend can come to. I know Antonio would love to get to know her a little better. How about we say nine? I’ll put your names on the list at the door under Brooklyn Angel and Katherine Tiger.”

My lips twitch as she struggles to hold back a giggle at the pet names. I chuckle low in my throat when she doesn’t succeed “Oh and make sure you wear that perfume you have on.” I wink before turning and head to Antonio who is waiting by the door watching Red, but not before I catch her blush again. Hmmm… again I wonder how far down that blush goes.
