Lick by Asta Idonea
Jay scrunched the note in his hand and slipped on his flip-flops. Then he turned and strolled up the beach toward the promenade. Despite the dubious weather, the seaside town was packed and he had to pick his way through the crowds. There was a group of squabbling children at the first Teddy Tombola stand he reached, so he gave that one a wide berth and continued on. He’d spotted another stall up ahead and was heading toward it when to a small ice cream truck on his left drew his attention.

The van itself was non-descript; nothing distinguished it from any of the others that graced the beachside streets. However, the man standing at the window was another matter.

Jay’s mouth went dry and he stared at the ice cream seller. The guy’s sandy-blond hair poked out from beneath the white sailor’s cap set at a jaunty angle atop his head, and the way he rested against the counter gave Jay a tantalizing glimpse of firm muscles stretching the fabric of his T-shirt. Heat pooled in the pit of Jay’s stomach, and he was drawn forward without any clear idea of what he was doing, or why.

The young man straightened and flashed a welcoming smile as Jay approached. “Hey there. What can I getcha?”

“Sorry?”

“Which ice cream did you want?” The guy waved a hand toward the board on Jay’s right, and Jay turned to look at it.

The information made no sense to him. The pictures were blurred blobs of color and the words looked like gobbledygook. He swallowed and turned back; only to find himself staring into a pair of beautiful, pale blue eyes.

“What’ll it be then, handsome?”

The man winked, and that brought Jay crashing back to his senses. He returned his attention to the menu board as heat flooded his cheeks. “Uh... a Magnum?”

“You don’t sound too sure about that.”

Jay shuffled. “Well, I wasn’t... I mean, I hadn’t....”

“Better let me choose. Don’t worry; I’m real good at this. I always know what people want.”

Pacific Rimming by Dale Cameron Lowry
He was crouched at the edge of the boardwalk just ten yards ahead of us and peering at something over the side, as still as a great blue heron waiting for prey. A bad metaphor for a bog where no fish live, but that’s how I thought of him, anyway. The periwinkle-grey of his T-shirt and his black, slightly mussed hair only added to the heron-like effect. A cowlick stuck out in the back in approximation of the bird’s feathered crest. His legs were folded like a heron’s too, tight as a pocketknife, his arms as close to his sides as resting wings. Their dark hairs were delicate plumage against his pale skin.

He was more stunning than any other creature I’d spotted that morning—with the exception of my husband, of course. I dropped my binoculars and let them hang against my chest. I nudged Ken’s elbow and pointed in the man’s direction. I knew he’d appreciate the sight as much as I did.

Ken’s breath did a sharp intake—loud enough for me to appreciate, but not loud enough to break the silence of the bog. “You’re a good spotter,” he signed, his hands close to his body like a whisper, then winked.

We both looked. The man must have been flexible to hold that same position for so long, so I guessed he was either younger than us or did a lot of yoga. I envied his flexibility, and I also envied the jeans stretched over his curves and angles like a second skin, highlighting the muscled roundness of his ass. It hovered just inches above the wooden planks of the boardwalk. If the boardwalk had been a human, the position would have been a cruel tease: You’d like to touch me, but you can’t.

Sea Salt & Chocolate by Lynn Townsend
“The carpet’s stainproof,” Eric said, quiet under his breath as Temple stood over the spot while Miriam sobbed on the sofa. “We can just rag it up, not a big deal.”

“This is why we can’t have nice things,” Temple retorted, very quietly. The sentiment was entirely sincere, for that moment in time, but not something he really wanted Miriam to glom on to and drag out as ammunition later in life.

“Ya always did have an uptight streak a mile wide,” Eric said. He had already fetched a washcloth and was blotting up the stain. Astonishingly enough, the white carpet was reporting back clean.

Miriam took advantage of her parents cleaning the carpet to flee the scene. By the time Eric had finished blotting up chocolate milk and carefully drying the spot, she was back from a complete exploration of the house—excluding, of course, her brother’s room, he had locked it against her, and even then, Temple could hear her banging on the door and demanding to be let in, along with A.J.’s crackling baritone denials—and declared “I’m bored.”

“We’ve been here for—” Temple checked his watch “—twenty minutes. You have at least another forty minutes before you’re allowed to be bored.”

“There’s nothin’ to do, Dad,” she complained.

“What would you be doing if you were at home?”

“Watchin’ YouTube.”

“Get me your phone and I’ll hook you up to the wireless,” Eric said. A.J. had registered a number of complaints about Miriam getting a phone so young, since he’d had to wait ’til he was twelve before they’d added his line, whereas Miriam got her phone only a few months back. Temple had gotten tired of Miriam constantly stealing his phone and playing Minecraft on it. It had been much easier, not to mention peaceful, to just let everyone in the house have a device.

Temple sighed, gazing down at his husband, who remained on the floor while he dealt with a six-year-old’s crisis. Eric had gone back to school, pursuing a degree in architecture, but he’d also taken on most of the household duties, including the emotional nurturing of their children, and at the same time, Temple had discovered himself shoved to the side. Their children went to Eric for comfort first, and Temple only when Eric wasn’t available. Oddly, Temple found he missed it. Missed little arms thrown around his neck, missed the trembly smiles after getting a Band-Aid.

And whose fault is that? He asked himself. You were eager enough to give it up, when Eric offered. Your family’s not broken yet, you can still fix it before it gets too far off track. And Eric’s right. I can’t remember the last time we had a lot of time together, without any responsibilities.

Weekend Encounter by Jamie Lowe
Logan went to the counter and hopped up, sitting on the countertop and poking at the keys on the cash register until a number popped up on the screen. “Let’s see. That will be one dollar.”

“One dollar? That’s a heck of a deal.”

“You can pay the balance tonight? By buying me dinner?”

“Are you always so forward?” Jackson asked him. But he was still smiling. He would certainly not say no to an incredibly attractive man’s company. “Fine, I can definitely do dinner. Any place you have in mind?”

“A few. I’ll decide and let you know. Anything you can’t or won’t eat?”

“I avoid beef, but I’m fine otherwise.” Jackson handed Logan a slightly ratty dollar and his cell phone. “We’ll exchange numbers and you can text me where and when to meet for dinner.” This was more than a little bit of a test, of course. If Logan wasn’t comfortable with Jackson having his number, then Jackson knew exactly what he was getting into.

But Logan didn’t hesitate, adding “Logan Peterson” to Jackson’s contacts list. Jackson called to give Logan his number as well—“Norwood,” he added, “my last name”—then took the small bag holding his shirt.

“See you tonight.”

“Mmm.” Logan smirked and turned his attention back to his board.

Jackson left the store to see Brock and Colton picking pieces off the last of a waffle cone. “There you are,” Colton said. “Did you end up getting something, then?”

“Sure did.” Jackson laughed and knocked Colton on the shoulder with his knuckles. “Couldn’t turn down a deal like that.”

Yin and Yang by Rob Rosen
“Boss waves down below. Primo a.m. stuff. You heading down, dude?”

“What? Oh, down below?” I stared over the side of the railing. “No, um, just enjoying the view. I, um, I don’t surf.”

He frowned. “Bummer, dude. Didn’t figure you for a hodad. You had that gleam in your eye. Praying to Kahuna for some killer waves.” He craned his neck out of the car window. “Righteous sets down there, man; shame to waste ‘em.”

I smiled and shrugged. “Sorry, I’m only getting about every third word,” I told him. “I skipped Surf Lingo 101. You got a Webster’s handy?”

He laughed and opened the door, then stood and stretched. Guy was crazy tall, lean and scruffy. With just his sandals and a richly colored pair of baggies on, he left little to the imagination. Needless to say, my eyes devoured him like the breakfast I’d yet to consume. His arms reached for the heavens as he inhaled, his chest filling, expanding, the fine tufts of blond hairs that ran down his torso shimmering in the rays of the new morning light, which added a brilliant gold to his natural bronze. My cock throbbed in my shorts. Good day for it, just like he said.

He looked at my over-stuffed car and grinned. “Ah, moving in, huh?”

“Yep. All the way from Minnesota. Staying with a friend down the coast for now.”

“Rad,” he said, with a bob of his thickly maned head. “That explains the no surfing thing then, I s’pose.”

I nodded. “But I make a mean brick of cheese.”

He laughed, long and deep, his muscle-ripped body quaking as he did so, before he turned and retrieved the gear from his trunk. “Come along and watch then, dude,” he offered, setting his stuff down and unhooking his board. “Can’t live along the coast if you don’t surf, you know.” He looked up, his eyes locking on to mine, laser intense, boring in and through; He winked, and added, “Better than sex. Almost.”

“Almost?” I nearly panted.

“Depends.” He tilted his neck, lifted the giant board above his head, and then he finished his train of thought with, “On who the sex is with. Now grab my gear and let’s go. Save me two trips. My lucky day.”

Ann Marie James

The latter fact a constant source of amusement for her now adult son. She always looks for the best in people and to treat people the way she wants to be treated. Above all Ann Marie believes in love, whatever form it takes. Relationships are hard, love is the glue that keeps it together.

Dale Cameron Lowry

R.A. Thorn
R.A. Thorn lives in northern California, although her heart remains in the Colorado mountains. She enjoys exploring the strange and varied paths of history and fantasy worlds. In her writing she seeks to capture the elusive feeling of a particular historical period or construct intriguing fantasy settings. Many days find her sequestered in the archives or pursuing the odd historical fact, but when chance allows she likes to escape and go hiking. She is perhaps too fond of footnotes and dark chocolate and looks forward to the day when she can get a dog.

Rob Rosen
Rob Rosen is the author of the critically acclaimed novels, Sparkle: The Queerest Book You'll Ever Love, the Lambda Literary Award Nominated Divas Las Vegas, which was the winner of the 2010 TLA Gaybies for Best Gay Fiction, Hot Lava, Southern Fried, the Lambda Literary Award Nominated Queerwolf, Vamp, Queens of the Apocalypse, Creature Comfort and the Lambda Literary nominated Fate. He is also the editor of Lust in Time: Erotic Romance Through the Ages, Men of the Manor, Best Gay Erotica 2015 and Best Gay Erotica of the Year, Volume 1.

T.J. Masters
T.J. Masters is a fifty-six-year-old author and life coach living in Hertfordshire just to the north of London, England. T.J. has shared thirty years of suburban life with his civil partner Ian, and they enjoy the love and support of T.J’s large Irish family who all live nearby. In 2009 T.J. took early retirement from a thirty-three-year school teaching career and decided to follow a new path. After qualifying as a life coach, T.J. found that he was coaching a couple of authors who were going through the process of giving birth to the book which “had always been inside them.” This rekindled T.J’s long-held desire to write and get published.

With a lifelong passion for books, learning, and the sharing of knowledge, T.J. woke up to the realization that he had stories to tell, books to write, and less than half a lifetime left to do it in. As for the kind of books he is writing… well, let’s just say that he decided to channel over thirty years of experience in the gay BDSM lifestyle into a genre where it would be most appreciated!

Alongside this passion for books and writing, T.J. also found an outlet for his inner geek and has become a great advocate for social media in various forms. Blogging has become a great outlet for T.J’s many interests including the writerly ones.

Tali Segel
Tali Segel lives in New England with her spouse, her girlfriend, three pet rodents, a cuddle-pile of teddy bears, and almost as many cooking supplies as books.  She has been writing stories since grade school, but her favorite fiction explores a vast range of times and places, strives for inclusivity, and genuinely believes in the timeless power of love.

Tali herself is a foodie, a geek, an introvert, a cyclist, and a queer kinky poly woman; she maintains that she was a hipster before being a hipster was cool.  When she asked her spouse to list her interests for a bio, he suggested “porn, fan fiction, Dragon Age, more porn, and tolerating her spouse.”  She can’t really disagree.

C.S. Poe
C.S. Poe is an author of gay mystery and contemporary romance. She believes that happily ever after is an attainable goal for any character, given enough elbow grease and legwork is provided.

C.S. lives in New York City, but has called a host of different locations home in the past, most recently being Ibaraki, Japan. She regrets no longer having easy access to limited edition candy, capsule toy machines, and clean trains, but over ten years in New York has proved to her there is no place quite like it.

She has an affinity for all things cute and colorful. C.S. is an avid fan of coffee, reading, and cats, in no particular order. She's rescued three cats, including one found in a drain pipe in Japan who flew back to the States with her. Zak, Milo, and Kasper do their best on a daily basis to sidetrack her from work.

C.S. Poe's first publication was "Love Has No Expiration," by Dreamspinner Press in 2015. Her debut novel, "Snow & Winter: The Mystery of Nevermore" is scheduled for release in summer 2016 by DSP Publications.

Ki Brightly
Ki grew up in small town nowhere pretending that meteor showers were aliens invading, turning wildflowers into magic potions, and reading more than was probably healthy. Ki had one amazing best friend, one endlessly out of grasp "true love", and a personal vendetta against normalcy.

Now, as an adult, living in Erie, Pennsylvania, Ki enjoys the sandy beaches, frigid winters, and a wonderful fancy water addiction. Seriously, fancy waters...who knew there were so many different kinds? It's just water...and yet...

Ki shares this life with a Muse, a Sugar Plum, and two wonderful children.

T Neilson
T Neilson is the author of The Trouble with Mr. Midwest, Submission Guidelines, and A Fine Romance (forthcoming in 2016). She loves to write romance books that are full of fluff and nonsense, but with a serious undertone.

T grew up in the Rocky Mountains and moved out west to go to university, and there she stayed. She has now lived and worked on Vancouver Island for fifteen years and, by some definitions, is even considered a local now.

She still misses sparkling, snowy winters of the mountains, but living in a temperate rainforest has its perks. In the summer you can find her either camping or hiking. If she's not out there, try looking at the beach. She might be out there, listening to audiobooks, scouring the shore for beach glass, and trying to fill her year's quota of vitamin D by acting like a lizard whenever the sun comes out.

In the rainy season, (substantially longer than the sunny season) she writes, reads, drinks far too much coffee, bakes and cooks, and works hard to maintain an addiction to pop culture, social media, and cartoons. If you're looking for her, she's probably on the couch, under the big blanket, nursing a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and reading something juicy. She also writes SFF under the name Tam MacNeil.

Rick R. Reed
Rick R. Reed is all about exploring the romantic entanglements of gay men in contemporary, realistic settings. While his stories often contain elements of suspense, mystery and the paranormal, his focus ultimately returns to the power of love. He is the author of dozens of published novels, novellas, and short stories. He is a three-time EPIC eBook Award winner (for Caregiver, Orientation and The Blue Moon Cafe). His novel, Raining Men, won the Rainbow Award for Best Contemporary General Fiction. Lambda Literary Review has called him, "a writer that doesn't disappoint." Rick lives in Seattle with his husband and a very spoiled Boston terrier. He is forever "at work on another novel."

Charles Payseur
Charles Payseur lives and writes in the frozen reaches of Wisconsin, where he enjoys the craft beer and excellent cheeses of the area a bit more than is strictly healthy. Along with his partner and growing herd of pets, he avoids doing household projects by reading and writing, and his short fiction and poetry has been published or is forthcoming at Strange Horizons, Nightmare Magazine, and Lightspeed Magazine, among others.

Tray Ellis
Tray Ellis grew up with two brothers and many cats and dogs. Her family loves to cook, eat, sit around talking, and quote old movies at each other. The more laughter the better, and her family loves to laugh. Tray has a completely romantic view of autumn, and thinks it is the perfect season and an excellent source of writing inspiration. When she isn't writing, she keeps busy by jogging, fishing, cooking, baking, and keeping her home in some semblance of order. She perhaps has exaggerated that her home is in any kind of order whatsoever.

Ada Maria Soto
Ada Maria Soto is a born and raised Californian, Mexican-American/WASP, currently living as an expat in the South Pacific. Writing is her day job for the two days a week her toddler is in daycare. The other five days a week her toddler is her day job.

A psychologist once told her she has a fantasy prone personality, but since she’s trying to be a writer that’s not a bad thing. She has dysgraphia and phonological dyslexia which means there is liable to be some exciting spelling around here.

Currently publishing with Dreamspinner Press but also taking on script doctoring work. Coming out of fandom she enjoys any direct feedback from her readers.

She is a sports fan dedicated to the Oakland A’s, San Jose Sharks, Auckland Blues, USA Eagles, New Zealand All Blacks, New Zealand Black Caps, and the Chennai Super Kings.

Monday's Montage Mantlepiece: Family Time Anthology

Summary:
These twelve stories range from first-time parents, to a couple still trying to conceive, to a ready-made family hoping to make it official, to parents just trying to get from one day to the next.

But it can't all be about the kids. Especially when the kid to parent ratio favors the kids. You might have sneak out of your own house. Or remind your spouse what grown-ups can do when the kids are away.

From veteran and new authors, these families contain several M/M couples, an F/F couple, and an asexual mom who has some explaining to do to her genderfluid teen.

First Day of School, a And Manny Makes Seven short by Sean Michael
Lizzie stared at Hutch with huge, tear-filled eyes. "Please. Please, Hut. Don't make me go away. I'll be the best cooker ever. I promise."

God, she was breaking his heart. Hutch managed to find a warm smile for her, though, as he crouched to give her a hug. "You'll be home by three thirty. And I bet you find you like school. There's so many fun things to do." He’d known it would be hard to send the twins off to school every day, leaving the house empty until afternoon, but he hadn’t expected it to be this hard.

She shook her head, the tears beginning to fall. Felicia was desperate to be big, to go to school like Darla, but this one had been opposed to the whole idea and finding out she wasn't in the same Kindergarten class as her twin hadn't helped. The school claimed they split twins up to let them develop their own individuality.

Well, Hutch knew damn well his girls were plenty individual, each with their own unique personality despite being together since birth.

"When you get home you can help me make supper," he promised. "That won't change just because you're going to school."

"Please? You can tell Addie-Lou it's okay. I know you can," she insisted.

"No, little. He can't." Adam shook his head. "School is important."

"Is not!" She stamped her little foot, glaring at Adam. "I want to stay with Hut!"

"Okay, Lizzie, that's enough." Hutch gave her his most firm voice. "School is important and you're going to make friends and find really fun things to do. Addie-Lou and I will be here when you get home."

He wanted so badly to tell her she could stay home, but he knew she needed to do this. It was his job to make sure she didn't need him and Adam anymore and this was how it started. Even if it was the hardest thing ever.

Author Bios:
Sean Michael
Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Katherine Halle
The nickname “Queen of Happy Endings” is an apt one for Katherine Halle. She firmly believes that no matter what the obstacles, what the struggles, or how much angst is involved in the journey that the ending should always be a happy one.

Katherine’s love of the written word started at a very early age with repeated demands of “read to me” to any who would listen. It was only natural that writing would follow. As a child, she could often be found daydreaming, thinking up fanciful stories and writing them down. Now she does it on a laptop. Much faster.

Katherine’s favorite animal is her dog. She likes books, movies, and quirky tv shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She is a closet foodie. She has lived in both Europe and the United States and loved both. When she's not writing or plotting, Katherine enjoys spending her time listening to music, reading books by OTHER people, and being with her family.

Nicole McCormick
Nicole lives in Austin with her husband and two rascally kitties. She typically writes m/m romance, but occasionally other stuff manages to sneak in. When she’s not writing, she’s either reading or knitting. If it’s March, you can find her at the rodeo. She’ll be the one wearing the large unicorn necklace.

K. Lynn
K. Lynn has been an avid reader and writer since childhood. In her youth, she could most likely be found in the local library, devouring books that covered everything from WWII History to Dr. McCoy's latest adventures aboard the Enterprise, with some X-Men thrown in for good measure. Once she had read everything that was on the shelves, she turned around and read them again. K. Lynn was also known to create elaborate adventures that more than once made it to the page. Ink-filled papers gave way to overflowing computer memory as the years went on, but the stories never ceased.

While in college, K. Lynn increased her involvement in LGBT issues and writing within the LGBT fiction genre. She has become a long-time fan of the authors that seek to explore the commonality that exists within all sexualities and genders. Most of K. Lynn's work features LGBT characters, many of whom are in established relationships and show how love perseveres through every trial and tribulation that life holds. She also has a particular interest in seeing transgender characters gain a larger foothold within the LGBT fiction genre, hoping that the market for these works expand in the future.

K. Lynn has degrees and certificates from UNC-Chapel Hill in the areas of American History, Religion, Creative Writing, Public Health, and Journalism. She is a member of Mensa and has an extensive writing and editing background. To her, life is an ongoing adventure where she seeks to learn something new every day. When K. Lynn is not writing short stories, she is working on her novels. Her interests range from erotica to education, with stops along the way in paranormal fiction, historical novels, and established relationship romance. Give her a good story and she's willing to read.

Rob Rosen
Rob Rosen is the author of the critically acclaimed novels, Sparkle: The Queerest Book You'll Ever Love, the Lambda Literary Award Nominated Divas Las Vegas, which was the winner of the 2010 TLA Gaybies for Best Gay Fiction, Hot Lava, Southern Fried, the Lambda Literary Award Nominated Queerwolf, Vamp, Queens of the Apocalypse, and Creature Comfort. His short stories have appeared in more than 200 anthologies. You can find 20 of them in his erotic romance anthology, Good & Hot. He is also the editor of Lust in Time: Erotic Romance Through the Ages, Men of the Manor and Best Gay Erotica 2015.

Mychael Black
aka Kay Derwydd

What do online gaming, Spongebob, cooking, writing, and an unnatural addiction to Mountain Dew all have in common?

Not a damn thing, which is what makes Mychael Black an interesting bird indeed.

Born in north Alabama, Mychael now resides in north Mississippi. Having run the gamut of labels in regard to gender and sexuality, Mychael now shuns society’s views on normality and embraces a poly-everything attitude. Call Mychael her or him—it doesn’t matter. Just keep reading the books.

Andrea Dalling
Andrea Dalling lives in the sexy Southeast, where the summers are hot and the romance hotter. During the day, she’s an award-winning technical writer, but at night, she writes steamy stories. She loves to torture her characters but eventually rewards them with a happily-ever-after. Married to her college sweetheart, she’s a progressive Christian and an advocate for LGBT rights.

Andrea is a member of the Romance Writers of America, including the Passionate Ink, Rainbow Romance, and Heart of Carolina chapters. Her work includes gay, BDSM, and multicultural erotic romance novels, novellas, and short stories.

Yolande Kleinn
Yolande Kleinn is a shameless dreamer, a stubborn optimist, and a purveyor of erotic romance. Excitable, fastidious and just a little eclectic, she spends every spare moment writing the stories she wants to read. If she can drag other people into the pool along with her, then so much the better.

Lynn Townsend
Lynn Townsend is a displaced Yankee, a mother, a writer, a dreamer, and the proud owner of a small black hole residing under her desk that tends to eat kittens, odd socks, staplers, and her car keys.
