Blog Tour: Resonance by Neve Wilder

Title: Resonance
Author: Neve Wilder
Series: A Rhythm of Love #2
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Blitz: August 21, 2019

Summary:
I gave the rumor mill fodder for a lifetime the day I walked away from a lucrative music career without explanation.

People can talk all they like; my record stores are my lifeblood now, and I'm devoted solely to keeping them afloat in the digital age. There's just one little thing distracting me: an earth-dwelling sunbeam named Owen Harper. I don't know what I was thinking when I hired him. In fact, maybe I wasn't thinking at all.

Quirky and excitable, he's a walking, talking danger to fragile objects. His energy alone could power a small country. That's never been my style. Hell, I was probably cutting my first album while he was cutting teeth. He wants a music career, and I'm done with all that. We couldn't be on more opposite paths.

He's other things, too, though. Things that keep me up late at night. Things that make me forget I'm supposed to be simplifying.

And damn does he love to push my buttons.

Now I'm struggling to resist his pull, drowning in the memory of his skin under my hands, his mouth on mine. His laugh.

When a long shadow from my past comes calling with an offer I'd be stupid to refuse, there's more on the line than the survival of the shops I've dedicated the last fifteen years of my life to.

Because those fragile objects I mentioned earlier? One of them might well be my heart.

Resonance is the second book in the Rhythm of Love series but can be read on its own. It's a steamy slow burn bisexual age-gap, boss/employee romance with lots of banter and two obstinate heroes who really, really don't want to want the very thing they both need.

Spewing that tirade at his bewildered expression felt good for all of a handful of seconds, long enough for me to leave the room, head down the hall, and straight out the back exit.

My stomach lurched as I scurried across the parking lot to my car, and I cast one last glance over my shoulder at the neon sign before tossing my case in the back seat and then sinking into the front and resting my forehead on the steering wheel. I blinked rapidly against the gathering sting in my eyes. Brush it off, inner cheerleader suggested cheerfully.

I groaned and the voice went silent. About damn time. I’d liked the Sparrow. Too bad I couldn’t show my face there again anytime soon. Probably ever.

I thumped my head against the wheel a couple of times and waited until the burn in the back of my throat faded before digging out my phone and opening my messages.

Owen: Done
Ru: How’d it go
Owen: I tripped running off the stage
Ru: Shit
Owen: But I didn’t wet my pants because 97% of the water in my body had already come out of my palms and forehead by then

Ru called me at that point, and I answered with what I thought might be a Guinness World Record–worthy sustained “fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.”

Ru chuckled good-naturedly, the jerk.

“I’m not really in the mood for vocal interaction right now,” I told him.

Who are some of your favorite authors and/or books to read when you need to relax?
To relax, I tend to go for rereads so I can lose myself in familiar worlds, regardless of angst level. Actually, a lot of my comfort reads aren’t particularly light or fluffy! Some of my favorite authors to reread are Lily Morton and May Archer. I recently read Burn Me by Jess Whitecroft and that one’s now on the reread list, even though it’s a pretty angsty book. It’s so beautiful. Arrows Through Archer by Nash Summers is a book I loved so much that I had to own the paperback version, and I’ll definitely be revisiting it soon.

If you were approached to have your book made into a film, who would you cast?
Oh wow. Hmmmm. Let’s see. For Resonance, I could totally see Bradley Cooper or Matthew McConnaughey as Dan. Or maybe an older Charlie Hunnam? For Owen, maybe Wyatt Nash? That’s a hard one!

It's often asked what is your favorite part of being a writer but what is the easiest or most natural part of the creative process for you?
I think the dialogue between characters is what tends to come easiest. Sometimes before I even have a sense of what they look like or what their story is! It usually comes to me in bursts that I scramble to write down, and my first drafts essentially read like a screenplay with all the characters talking back and forth. I used to worry I was going about this the wrong way, but it seems to be what works best for me. Then in the additional drafts, all the other parts (setting, action tags, descriptions) get layered in once I have a feel for the voices.

Is there any one character you've created that is most like you? If yes, who and why?
Most of my characters probably reflect aspects of me, but rarely is one fully a representation of me. However, Rob, from my debut mm Center of Gravity, was a pretty accurate representation of my own journey through grief and hit close to home as I was writing. His story is obviously very different than mine, but the introspection he was prone to and the way he’d withdrawn emotionally was very similar to what I was feeling at the time. There were many frustrating moments in that book for me where I looked at him on page and wanted to tell him to snap out of it at the same time I knew personally that… you can’t. You may want to, but you can’t always dictate the way emotions impact you or your response to the shitty cards life deals out sometimes. The only way out is through and to have forced him to fit a different mold would have felt untrue to the storyline.

If you could go anywhere(finances, time, & obligations not an issue) where would you go and why?
I’m a huge homebody. I live near my extended family and I love that because we’re very closeknit. But just for a quick visit, I’d love to see Bora Bora’s beautiful, crystal clear waters. I dream of water like that constantly and I have no idea why.

Author Bio:
Neve Wilder lives in the southern US, where the summers are hot and the winters are...sometimes cold. She is a mom to three rambunctious weebeasts who have joined forces in a mission to carpet the family home with toys and small items that really suck to step on at six in the morning.

She reads promiscuously across multiple genres, but her favorite stories always contain an element of romance. Incidentally, this is also what she likes to write. Slow-burners with delicious tension? Yes. Whiplash-inducing page-turners, also yes. Down and dirty scorchers? Yes. And every flavor in between.

She believes David Bowie was the sexiest musician to ever live, and she's always game to nerd out on anything from music to writing.

And finally, she believes that love conquers all. Except the heat index in July. Nothing can conquer that bastard.

Blog Tour: Want Me by Neve Wilder

Title: Want Me
Author: Neve Wilder
Series: Extracurricular Activities #1-6
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: May 8, 2019

Summary:
Two roommates. One calculus exam. A whole lot of extracurricular activity.

Nate
Living with four other guys, it’s bound to happen.
Every guy’s been caught taking care of business at least once, right?
It shouldn’t be a big deal.

But I don’t know Eric as well as my other roommates, and things are a little awkward now.
He’s a loner. A mystery. Quietly confident. Smart.
Sexy as hell.

I’ve been happily subsisting on the typical frat guy diet of booze and sorority girls.
But the way Eric looked at me that night?
There was something there.
Something that’s got me curious.
Something that’s stirring up feelings I thought I’d left behind for good.

Something that’s making me think I’m not as straight as I thought I was.

I can’t get him off of my mind.
I don’t think I want to.

So when he offers to help me study for a midterm I’m convinced I’m going to fail, I take him up on it.
It’s innocent.
Probably. Maybe.

There’s no way I could’ve known what it’d start...

This is a super steamy standalone new adult/college mm romance with HEA that unfolds across six “episodes” following Nate and Eric. Now bundled up in one collection with a bonus episode for a seamless reading experience. 87,000 words.

“You all right?”

“Yeah, stressed, as usual.”

“Calculus? I can help.”

“Nope, philosophy this time.”

He wrinkled his nose in sympathy, then laced his fingers behind his head. I turned my focus back to the page I was reading, then realized I’d read the same sentence three times in a row. I could feel him watching me, and when I turned my head to check, I was right. His gaze trickled down from the crown of my head to my lap, slow as a drop of water down the glass of the window behind me. My cock jumped in my pants, and I shifted my legs restlessly. The thing needed a leash.

“You want some stress relief?” he offered.

No. It was on the tip of my tongue to say it, because I was frustrated by the whole situation, but fuck, the way he was sitting there so casually, his legs sprawled, his thickening cock starting to push at his fly… I inhaled deeply through my nose, and as I exhaled, found myself saying, “Like what?”

“Not sure yet,” he mused, posture straightening. He moved to the edge of his seat, scooting his chair in closer so he was right next to me, and even though I kind of knew what was coming, I still flinched when he laid his hand over the top of my thigh.

“Not right here,” I said, lowering my voice. But fuck if I didn’t widen my legs in the same breath, a taboo thrill running through me at being in public. Shit, regardless of Eric, I was starting to think I really did have a thing for being watched—or the threat of getting caught, at least.

Eric palmed my crotch, spreading his fingers over the bulge in my gym shorts. His warmth seeped through the silky mesh fabric and woke my cock right the fuck up.

I glanced around. There was no one to either side of us, and behind me was just a bank of windows that looked over the main quad below. But there were a trio of heads in the carrels across from me. I could hear them when they whispered or turned a page in their books, and I had to muffle a growl when Eric tucked his hand behind the waistband of my shorts, grazing his fingertips over my swollen head.

“No?” It was practically a purr, and it rolled over my skin like warm oil and flooded me with furiously spreading heat that tightened my balls.

He took my silence for the assent it was, and I clamped my lower lip between my teeth as he wedged his hand deeper into my shorts and wrapped it around the base of my cock, giving it a sharp, pulsing squeeze that made me suck in a breath.

“Freeballing?”

“Yeah,” I stuttered out, my dick jumping in his hand as he squeezed again.

“Good deal.” He gave me a few light, feathery strokes that had my hips surging up into the contact, and then his hand tightened like a vice around my shaft, thumb tracing my head in a tantalizing sweep as he leaned in. His whisper washed over me like pure, searing desert heat, the ownership in it shooting straight to my core and making me dizzy. “I want that nut you’re working up right now.”

“Fuck,” I hissed so loud that when I glanced up, I could see the person in the carrel across from me trying to subtly peer over the divider.

I hunched over my desktop to conceal the view of Eric’s hand as it plunged deeper, scooping up my balls and kneading them.

“That sounded like a yes to me.”

“Not here,” I whispered again and yanked his hand from my pants. Even though by then, shit, I was definitely seeing the appeal in letting him get me off right there. But I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay quiet enough, and though the thrill of possibly getting caught was hot, the reality of a charge for public indecency was not. I needed some ninja skills for that, or a lot more experience, and the whole novelty of getting off with a dude who knew what the hell he was doing was still so keen-edged that I didn’t have a shot.

“Spoilsport. I was enjoying the challenge, but I guess you’re right.” Eric picked up his sucker again, stuffing the wrapper in his back pocket. “You’re a noisy fucker, so maybe a little more buffer is a good idea. Come on.”

What is the biggest influence/interest that brought you to this genre?
Ohhh, what an interesting question! My first gay read was Rough Canvas by Joey W. Hill, which then led me to discovering a book called Finding North by Carmen Jenner. That book led me to Riley Hart’s Crossroads and Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy’s Him. I had NO idea there was a whole world waiting for me, but boy did it explode before my eyes in amazing ways. I’ve never looked back. It’s hands down my favorite genre to read in, and one I feel lucky every day to write in.

When writing a book, what is your favorite part of the creative process(outline, plot, character names, editing, etc)?
The first draft is my favorite part. I’m a plantser, meaning a hybrid between a plotter and a panster. So I usually go in having a vague idea or sketch of the book in my mind. Inevitably it changes along the way. Hence the pantsing part.  But the first draft is always fun because I’m usually going breakneck speed, mostly writing dialogue to get a feel for my characters and their quirks. The second draft is for trying to tame all that wild energy into something relatively cohesive.

When reading a book, what genre do you find most interesting/intriguing?
As mentioned above, I mostly read LGBT+ romance books or within the LGBT+ realm, but I have a hardcore weakness for post apocalyptic and dystopian books.

If you could co-author with any author, past or present, who would you choose?
Gosh, I have no idea how I’d choose from present authors. All of them? There are so many I admire, especially within my genre. So I’ll go outside my genre for this answer and say...Alice Hoffman. I’ve loved her writing and her unique stories since I was a teen and am still an avid fan.

Have you always wanted to write or did it come to you "later in life"?
The first thing I remember writing was a poem about a tree in third grade. The poet who was visiting our class that week awarded it a prize of some highly-coveted rainbow swirl marbles. I was ridiculously happy about this and decided the whole writing gig was pretty sweet. That changed after I graduated from college with a degree in journalism and wrote for newspapers and magazines for a while for pay that was about on par with those rainbow marbles. I shifted gears to the graphic design side of things, but never lost my love for writing.

All through high school, college, and beyond, I participated in something called free-form text-based roleplay—which is really just another way of saying collaborative writing. I wrote mostly fantasy-based and paranormal storylines with a handful of writing partners for years until I finally decided I wanted to sit down and try to write a book on my own after my father passed away. I figured if not now, when? That book was my debut mm romance called Center of Gravity. It’s not a light read, but it will always be very close to my heart.

I’ve just kept trudging on going since then trying to soak up knowledge and craft as I go and making some awesome new author friends along the way.

Release Blitz: Dedicated by Neve Wilder

Title: Dedicated
Author: Neve Wilder
Series: Rhythm of Love #1
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: December 11, 2018
Cover Design: Mayhem Cover Creations
Summary:
“Our greatest hit is a love song I wrote for my bandmate. And he has no idea.”

Messy-haired, soulful-eyed, off-kilter lyricist Les Graves holds tight to the hedonist’s credo of consumption in every avenue of life. He has trouble staying still, trouble staying sober, trouble turning down a good time—but put a pen in his hand, and he’ll set a page on fire.

Music was Evan Porter’s ticket out of the backwater mud puddle he was born in, the passion keeping him warm as he busked on street corners, fueling him through a dead-end bartending job. Every chord, every song, every ounce of sweat has been devoted to making Porter & Graves a success. He’s the level-head, the quiet maestro, the seatbelt that keeps Les from flying too far out of control. And he’s getting pretty tired of playing savior.

Their chemistry onstage is electric, but offstage it’s another story.

Angst, snark, and nuclear levels of unresolved sexual tension combust in this tale of two rockers, a handful of secrets, a bombed album, and a publicity nightmare thrown in a remote cabin with one shot at redemption. Can Evan and Les find harmony or will they—and their music career—go down in flames?

Dedicated is a 92k standalone bisexual friends-to-lovers romance that also plays on the fake relationship trope, contains a cockblocking greenhouse, really poor decisions involving social media, and a borderline over-the-top HEA.

*Please note: This book contains reference to and depiction of a MMF scene*

Release Blitz: Center of Gravity by Neve Wilder

Title: Center of Gravity
Author: Neve Wilder
Series: Nook Island #1
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: October 4, 2018
Cover Design: Jay Aheer at Simply Defined Art

Summary:
When life comes apart at the seams, love is the only thread that can repair it.

Accountant Rob Macomb has a stable job that he’s good at and… that’s about it. A year of nothing but heartache leaves him seeking refuge from loneliness and grief behind spreadsheets, punishing daily runs, and the occasional anonymous tryst. He wants only to bury the past and focus on his career, but he has one last task to complete: pack up his parent’s quaint beachside house and put it on the market.

Alex Andrews is a budding artist with a penchant for Converse, Cracker Jack, and piercings. Family turmoil sidelines his dreams of finishing art school and building a career in three-dimensional design, and now he’s doing whatever he can to keep everyone afloat.

When Alex shows up as a part of the moving crew hired to help Rob clean out the house, what should be a simple move becomes far more complex. Because it’s not the first time they’ve met, and their last encounter was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The attraction between them is undeniable and intense, but Rob’s hell-bent on pushing everyone away, and Alex is on the verge of spinning out of control. Can a grumpy accountant and a bootstrapping artist find their center of gravity together, or are they on a collision course to heartbreak?

*An emotionally-charged, slow burn m/m romance featuring an age gap, hurt/comfort themes, and a hard-won happily ever after. This is the standalone first in the Nook Island, Georgia series.*

In this excerpt, Rob is on the phone arguing with his sister, who oh-so-helpfully set up the impending move with a company called College Buffs Hauling Stuff. Rob is not pleased to begin with. As the truck arrives and the two movers get out, Rob has a moment of awkward realization:

Another door slammed and a guy with short, dark hair ambled around the front of the truck. Cracker Jack opened the door and leaned back inside, soon emerging with a silver clipboard in one hand that he checked before saying something to his coworker. In contrast to the stupid caricature on the side of the truck, Cracker Jack met all the qualifications of college buff from what I could see of his profile. He was an endless summer kind of golden blond, and lean, a bit of leftover sunburn on his cheeks laying over the warm, cabana boy tan beneath. He looked as if he should be holding the handle of a pool net rather than the dolly he deposited at the front gate. “Two Men and a Truck would have worked just fine. Or 1-800-Junk,” I argued.

“The Buffs get five stars on Yelp. Don’t be a stick in the mud,” she replied, knowing it’d get me right in the accountant’s tender spot.

Cracker Jack glanced up at the front door of the house and for the first time I saw his face in full, the dangerously carved cheekbones, the sensually bowed mouth, a bit of silver—incongruous against the golden backdrop of his face—ringed through his lower lip. I froze, first trying to place him, then in frazzled denial. But it was too late: my gut already knew and had twisted up like a pretzel. The memory came in saturated fragments that exploded behind my eyelids.

I narrowly missed being speared by the coat hook as my shoulder slammed shut the faux wood door of the stall. I fumbled the lock with one hand, pulled him to me with the other, fingers spanning and raking the damp sheen of sweat gathered low on his back. A hot wash of breath across my throat, his lips dragging over the curve of my jaw, the tickle of his lip ring against my stubble. He smiled against my teeth and murmured, “A guy who knows what he wants. I like it.”

I felt the color fleeing my face in humiliating mutiny as Cracker Jack stared at the door. I took a backward step. Summer droned on about how she’d just been picking the best option and it was hard to do from far away, that she’d not wanted to interrupt me with something so insignificant during tax season and on and on and on, but it hardly registered.

A rush of cool air over my cock—how had he gotten my zipper undone so fast?—and then the warmth of his touch. The brush of his thumb over my crown. “Fuck, you’re already slick,” he groaned, biting his lip. His forehead bumped my cheek as he looked down at his hand, watching as he stroked me. He paused long enough to spit on his palm then stroked faster, the noise obscene cutting through the piped in music of the club, but the feel of him on me was pure velvet bliss. When I reached for his waistband, he brushed my hand away. “Not yet. I like to concentrate. I’ll get mine in a minute.” He licked at the side of my neck where my pulse was hammering, then tightened his fingers around my shaft, pulling a moan from me. I just wanted him to shut up. Just wanted him to shut up and get me off.

Except he never got his.

And I couldn’t remember his name.
