You’re invited to the wedding of the year as Matt, Cal, Mrs. Mulroney, Mr. Banks, Tilly and Angus return for more hilarious antics, swooning romance and a surprise that none of them will see coming!

From the balcony of our suite I watched the reflection of the stars twinkle on the water and the lights atop the fishing boat masts bob and sway like fireflies in the night. I stood for a long, lingering moment staring at the view while the warm sea breeze played with the hem of the hotel bathrobe I was wearing.

I could hear the shower running from inside the suite and I imagined Cal standing beneath the running water, sparkling rivulets trickling down his perfect body.

I turned from the view to face our palatial suite with its four-pillar king-sized bed, antique marble writing desk, crystal chandelier and the lavish eighteenth-century Italian sofas with satin trim. On an ornate coffee table between the sofas sat a tray containing the remains of the most delicious cheese platter I’d ever eaten. Leftover figs, crumbling, aged cheddar and gooey gorgonzola lay among the scattered ruskits and biscotti I wastoo full to finish.

In that moment there was no denying I was truly, utterly content.

Sure, there had been other times in my life when I could remember being happy, but not like this.

I was standing on a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean, full to the brim with fine wine and cheese, listening to the shower run and knowing at any moment it would stop and the love of my life—the man I was about to marry—would step out of the bathroom wearing a hotel robe… or perhaps just a towel… or perhaps nothing at all, before crossing the room and kissing me on the lips.
If this was a dream, I would have done anything to never wake up from it.

The shower stopped.

My heart fluttered with anticipation.

I saw Cal’s shadow moving about the bathroom.

And then he appeared in the doorway.

Yes, he was naked.

Sort of.

On his head he had a towel wrapped around his hair like a woman from a 1950s beauty salon.

On his feet he paraded two ridiculously fluffy white slippers that looked like stuffed rabbits, compliments of the hotel.

“What do you think?” he said with a grin, gesturing at the slippers as he stood there completely naked between his forehead and his ankles.

I had to smile.

Then I had to laugh.

“You don’t like them?” he asked, feigning offense.

I shook my head. “You know something. Even when you strive to be imperfect, you do it perfectly.”

“I don’t even know what that sentence means.”

“I’m not entirely sure I do, either.”

“Then why don’t you stop being a writer and start making your way over to the bed, my future Signor Croft-Darcy.”

“That’s future Signor Darcy-Croft to you, thank you very much. We’ve had this chat.”

“Just so long as our names are side-by-side that’s all I care about. I want the world to know you’re mine.” He kicked off the slippers and pulled off the head towel and strutted confidently over to me, standing before me on the balcony naked and unafraid who might see.

“Aren’t you worried the paparazzi might be watching through a telescopic lens?”

He pretended to be offended once again. “What are you saying? That someone needs a telescopic lens to see my cock?”

“Good Lord, no,” I grinned, reaching down for his flaccid dick before I began stroking it. “Although right now it’s seems to be a little short of its full potential.”

“That can be rectified,” Cal said, taking hold of the fluffy cords on my robe and pulling me back into the suite toward the bed.

Who are some of your favorite authors and/or books to read when you need to relax?
When I want to relax I’ll pick up one of two kinds of books. I’ll either go for something really funny and lovely, like a book by Ethan Day or TJ Klune or Amy Lane… something with some really great snappy dialogue and lovable characters and a sweet happy ending. Or I’ll go to the other extreme and pick up something really deep and stoic and resounding like ‘Call Me By Your Name’ or ‘Giovanni’s Room’ and put on some gentle classical music. I know it sounds weird but sometimes – ironically – heavy reading is the most enlightening and relaxing. For a writer those books are always full of great lessons: how to twist a phrase or feeling in a way that’s never been described before.

If you were approached to have your book made into a film, who would you cast?
Oh, I love this question and I definitely know who I’d cast as Matt the narrator in the ‘My Billionaire’ series. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the TV show Schitt’s Creek, I think it’s so clever and hilariously acted and Daniel Levy who plays the son, David, is the perfect Matt. He’s so witty yet has so much self-doubt, there’s a really fine balancing act between letting your insecurities overshadow what little confidence and wit you have and I think Daniel Levy does that brilliantly. As for Cal, the billionaire, I kinda can’t get the guy from the book cover out of my head when I write his character now. He’s gorgeous! He probably can’t act but I don’t care… he’s pretty ;)

It's often asked what is your favorite part of being a writer but what is the easiest or most natural part of the creative process for you?
For me the easiest part is writing the last couple of pages of a book. By the time you get there, you’ve had those pages in your head for soooooooo long, letting them marinade and stew and boil down to the perfect way you want to close your story. By the time I get to those last few pages I’ve written and re-written that part in my head so many times it practically writes itself. Of course, if you do the flipside and you haven’t rehearsed that final chapter in your head a zillion times, then it inevitably becomes the opposite of being the easiest part of the creative process and proves to be torturously difficult. I avoid that at all cost and always go in prepared. To be honest, I can’t really start writing a book without knowing how it’s going to end.

Is there any one character you've created that is most like you? If yes, who and why?
I think it would definitely be Matt, the narrator in the ‘My Billionaire’ series. Writing him is so effortless, and I think that’s because I’m writing myself to a large degree. He’s just your average gay guy with the same insecurities most of us have, but he sizes his neurotic nature up with a good dose of humor… which we all need to do if we want to get through this crazy thing called life. He never stops questioning his self-worth, which is something I constantly do, but he also never stops trying to make things work, even when he totally screws things up. He’s a character who has no idea what the right thing to do is in any given situation, so he’s just going to make it up as he goes and let his honesty, kindness and humor guide him through. There’s no guidebook in life so what else can you do?

If you could go anywhere (finances, time, & obligations not an issue) where would you go and why?
I’d love to see South America from top to bottom and it’s definitely on the bucket list. I’d love to climb up to Machu Picchu and see the floating villages on Lake Titicaca and take tango lessons in Buenos Aries. I’ve actually done a lot of traveling and I’ve been to most of the continents, but South America is one place I’ve never seen. I think traveling is hugely important. As humans – as thinking beings – it’s vital that we constantly step outside our realm and experience other people and places to try and understand the world from someone else’s point of view. It’s the greatest lesson in empathy and humility. There’s so much we need to learn from one another, and living in a privileged society with cars and computers and decent employment, we’re lucky enough to have the chance to get on a plane and see other places and remind ourselves we’re not in this alone. We need to look after each other and appreciate our differences. Respecting someone for their differences is one of the greatest lessons we can learn.

Summary:
Damien is nine years old when his parents die. What should have been the worst moment of his life begins a journey shadowed by loneliness and pain. The night of a full moon, four years and seven foster homes later, Damien flees to the forest, desperate to escape everything.

Instead, he finds the Salgado pack, and the earth beneath his feet shifts. Damien has seen the Salgado children in his school: Koko, who is in his class, and Hakan, two years older and infinitely unreachable. Damien is suddenly introduced into a world that had only ever existed in his imagination, where there is magic in the forest and the moon. He meets creatures that look like monsters, but Damien knows that monsters have the same face as anybody else.

Over the years, Damien and Hakan grow closer. First, just as friends and foster brothers in the Salgado house, and then into something heated and breathless when Damien joins Hakan at college. Despite what he may yearn for in the darkest part of the night, Damien knows, deep down in that bruised and mealy part of his core, that he’s not good enough to be part of the Salgado family, their pack. He’s not worthy of calling Hakan his home.

Even though he knows in the end it’ll hurt him, he’ll hold onto this for as long as he can.

CONTENT WARNING: This book contains themes of emotional and (nonsexual) physical child abuse and the subsequent emotional, cognitive, and behavioural impacts.

Author Bio:
When Marina was a child she couldn’t sleep. Night after dissolving night she just couldn’t sleep. Nothing much worked – until she started making up stories in her head. Suddenly, the transition into unconsciousness was a smooth dive into calm waters.

Marina is currently in a period of sleepless upheaval, and she hopes writing down the stories in her head will cast the same spell it did decades ago.

Marina hopes to write in a variety of romance sub-genres, from contemporary to supernatural to sci-fi. Her style, however, tends to focus on character-centred stories that explore different facets of the human experience, such as mental health. She also enjoys writing explicit, drawn-out sex scenes, so expect those to be a prominent feature of her stories.

Marina tends to keep to herself unless prompted, so don’t be shy in approaching her!

Monday's Memorial Moment: The Artist by Bonnie Dee

Summary:
Creating love from darkness is the greatest art…

Living a bohemian lifestyle in Paris is wonderful for Teddy Dandridge, but disastrous for his finances. His unconventional artistic creations find few buyers. After a year of failure, he returns to England to fulfill a portrait commission for a wealthy family, but he finds a different, source of inspiration secreted away in their sprawling house.

Isolated and rejected by his family, Phineas Abernathy haunts the west wing like a ghost. A physical deformity has locked him away from society for all his life. Filling his days with reading and drawing, he dreams of a life that seems unachievable…until irreverent, opinionated Teddy explodes into his quiet world

Intrigued by the kind and creative man beneath the ungainly exterior, Teddy gives Phin nightly drawing lessons. A private friendship is born as the men share life stories, future hopes and a growing attraction. Phin agrees to pose for a portrait in which Teddy tries to illustrate the depth and beauty he sees in him. He also guides the eager virgin in the ways of love between men.

When persecutors from Phin’s past arrive at the house, the slights and hurts he has suffered his entire life boil over. He must at last be brave enough to emerge from his cocoon and venture into an often cruel and judgmental world. And Teddy must decide what matters most to him.

When finanacial disasters force Teddy Dandridge to leave Paris and return to England, he is commissioned by a wealthy family to paint a portrait of their daughter who is about to be presented to society.  Phineas Abernathy has spent his entire life isolated and secreted away by the family for his physical deformities.  When Phineas comes across Teddy painting, their worlds will never be the same but will society or more importantly the Abernathy family let Teddy and Phineas find happiness?

Once again Bonnie Dee has brought history to life with her respect of the times with wonderful attention to detail all while bringing a lovely story to life in The Artist.  You want to feel bad for Teddy because he had to come home from Paris and in one regard his dreams were dashed but he doesn't let that stop him because he is still able to do his painting and you just know that he still has so much to offer the artistic world.  As for Phin, I found myself so angry at his family especially his mother.  Even taking into consideration the times and how women did not have the say they do today I still found myself wanting to just slap her silly for not standing up for her boy.  Watching Phin find his voice is heartbreaking at times but its also very heartwarming.

I feel like I am on the verge of giving away too much of Teddy and Phin's story so I think I'll end the review but I do want to say I love how everyone in this tale has a place in both the couple's journey and the book as a whole.  There really is no "throwaway" characters in The Artist and that is not always easy to do for an author but Bonnie Dee has done it wonderfully.  As I mentioned above, as you read her work you can understand and almost see her respect for the past and yet this is a lovely work of fiction that entertains from beginning to end.  If you've never read Bonnie Dee before than The Artist is an awesome place to start and if you are like me and devour nearly all her work than you don't want to miss this one.

RATING:

Part of what kept me in France long after my illusions were dashed and my pockets frighteningly empty was my desire not to give my family the satisfaction of being proven right. I’d learned one could not simply survive on a dream, and even artists must sometimes accept less than desirable commissions. But I was not giving up on my own creative vision, merely taking a temporary side step.

I wished I’d brought my sketchbook to the wild garden so I could capture the ancient crab apple tree clinging to the last leaves of faded summer. It made a poignant statement about human nature, for didn’t we all clutch at life until our very last breath? A movement behind a nearby bush accompanied by a rattle of branches drew my attention from musing on life and death.

“Who’s there?” I called, heartbeats ramping up at the unexpected intrusion. I calmed myself with the thought it was probably a gardener. God knew the place could use some pruning.

The hider behind the bush went utterly still. I moved cautiously as if tracking a deer as I edged around the shrubbery. When I glimpsed a gray jacket through red leaves, I had a fairly good idea who was spying on me.

“Mr. Phineas Abernathy, I presume.” I misquoted explorer Henry Morton Stanley.

The figure behind the bush did not reply, but a burst of laughter escaped him. He understood my quote, so he was not weak brained as his sister suggested, but he was clearly shy. I would make it my mission to entice him out into the open.

“My name is Theodore Dandridge. I’ve been hired to paint your sister Rose’s portrait. I believe you already know that.” I paused, and when Abernathy didn’t respond, I added, “Won’t you show me around your garden, and we can have a chat?”

“Not… No!” The mutter was followed by the clearing of a throat and stronger negation. “I’d rather not. But I will talk with you from here.”

“All right. I noticed you watching me paint earlier. Are you interested in art?”

“Yes. Very much. I wish I could see your work.”

“I could bring my sample portfolio to your quarters later,” I offered. “Or, if you don’t wish to invite me up, I could send it along with your servant whom I met earlier. What’s his name?”

“Ledbetter. Perhaps I’ll send him to you later in the day.”

“Do you draw or paint?” I asked.

“Oh no. I scribble a bit, but nothing worth looking at.” He shifted farther behind the bush, withdrawing his shoulder so all I could see was a bit of sleeve.

“Nevertheless, I’d like to see your work as well,” I said. “I’m interested in every type of art, from the great masters to children’s drawings. Art is an expression of the soul. Nothing is unworthy of interest and admiration.”

“I’m not an artist.”

“Of course you are. Everyone who puts so much as a mark on paper or molds a snowman out of his mashed potatoes is an artist.”

My bit of whimsy prompted another laugh from the lurker. He eased into his former position, and now I could see a bit of his face3. Maybe, in time, I could cajole him all the way out of the bushes.

“The desire to create is universal. Many people suppress the artistic side of their nature because they don’t believe it is ‘good enough’ for others to see—or hear, if they are musically inclined. Perhaps they’ve been told the arts are frivolous, a waste of time. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Without creative expression, be it music, literature, art, acting, or what have you, we are less than our full selves.” I only half paid attention to my words, though I truly believed them. My companion was visibly relaxing, taking a less rigid stance as he listened.

“Sharing even primitive talent is a beautiful thing,” I assured him.

“I could never be so bold,” Phineas replied. “I don’t want anyone to see my doodlings.”

“Begin by sharing your drawings with me. I will give you honest suggestions for improvement, but not a harsh critique. I can teach you some technique, although personal expression is about so much more than that.”

“I would like to know how to draw a face that looks like a face and not a lumpy squash.”

“Shall I give you lessons while I’m here? In the evenings, after I’m finished working on Miss Rose’s portrait.”

“Oh! I don’t know…” Again he withdrew into the scarlet leaves.

I held my breath and waited. I’d made the offer and could do no more.

“Yes. I would like that.” He spoke with sudden determination. “I would like it very much. Might you come to my rooms after supper tonight?”

“Absolutely. Now that’s decided, perhaps we ought to meet face-to-face.” I took a step toward him.

“No. I’m not ready,” he said breathlessly. “Tonight will be soon enough. When it’s a bit…darker.”

“As you wish,” I replied mildly. “Still, you can’t hide away in the shadows forever, my friend.”

“You might not say so after you’ve seen me, Mr. Dandridge. I am more akin to a gargoyle than Michelangelo’s David.”

An arrow pierced my heart at his matter-of-fact tone. Someone had convinced the poor man he was hideous so he identified himself in no other way. As an unusual child, I’d certainly experienced my share of slurs, so I understood the powerful effect words held. I felt an immediate kinship and desire to help Abernathy realize his difference was only one part of his being.

Release Blitz: Summit by Louise Lyons

Title: Summit
Author: Louise Lyons
Genre: M/M Romance
Release Date: September 1, 2018
Cover Design: Jay Aheer at Simply Defined Art
Summary:
When out of condition divorced lorry driver, Ash Tomlinson, makes the spur of the moment decision to climb Kilimanjaro, he doesn’t consider how much it will change his life. There’s the training, the equipment to buy, the fear of altitude sickness, and of failure. And there’s Sean, a man who makes Ash question what he really wants for his future.

Sean Briggs is a school sports teacher and wishful mountain leader, longing for the chance to lead people on mountain hikes, but never having taken the plunge to do the training course. While he thinks about it, he decides to undertake the trip of a lifetime on Kilimanjaro.

The two men meet on a training weekend in Wales, and afterwards Ash goes home and tries to forget about Sean, but finds it impossible.

When the pair strike out for the summit of the highest mountain in Africa, their physical and mental strength is tested, and their growing feelings for each other help them push through the toughest moments of the trek.

----------------------

We applied extra sun cream and insect repellent, put on wide-brimmed hats, shouldered our backpacks, and prepared our hiking poles. This was it. The first leg of the very long trek to the top of the mountain. My heart thrummed with excitement and a glance at Sean's beaming smile and bright eyes told me he felt as I did.

The lead Tanzanian guide set off slowly along a dusty path through the jungle and we followed in single file, with more guides and Phil and Mark mingling with us. Cameras and phones made repeated appearances during the four-hour trek to the camp, as we marvelled at the huge trees, mosses, and plants, and the monkeys and birds high up in the branches over our heads. Phil reminded us several times to drink regularly and I got into the habit of sucking water from the tube connected to the water bladder in my backpack every few minutes.

There were a couple of short breaks along the trail, during which we ate snacks, drank additional water, and peed again and again. Ladies' and men's "toilets" were clumps of bushes on opposite sides of the trail, which resulted in much giggling and squealing from the ladies as they came upon unsavoury deposits from the previous trekkers.

The path wound its way upwards, not too steeply, through humid shade provided by the tangle of trees. Their roots burst through the dirt underfoot and we constantly alternated between staring at the ground to avoid tripping and gazing around in wonder at the surroundings. The afternoon raced by and I barely realised three hours had passed, when the trail opened out into a vast clearing.

A cluster of green tents awaited us, with two tall narrow toilet tents off to one side and a large orange mess tent for our meals.

"Your bags will be in your tents waiting for you," Phil reminded us.

"How do we find which is ours?" Sally asked.

"They'll have tags on that match the tags we put on our bags last night," Sean told her. "Ours is twin something."

"They're all twin something, except Gerald's because he's on his own." I laughed. "Ours is four."

"Oh, yeah." Sean rolled his eyes and went looking for a tent with a plastic tag on it that read "twin four." A moment later he unzipped the flap of a tent and disappeared inside. I followed, slipping my backpack from my shoulders as I reached it.

Sean sat in the entrance, unlacing his boots. Our two holdalls sat in the middle of the tent and a sleeping mat lay on each side. Sean placed his boots in one corner and shuffled backwards out of the way. "Which side do you want?"

"I don't mind." I took his place and removed my boots. Sean moved to the far side of the tent and placed his backpack in the middle between the two holdalls. We took a few minutes to organise things, unpacking our additional sleeping mats to put on top of the thin ones provided, spread sleeping bags on top of them, and found comfortable running shoes to wear for dinner. We changed out of our hiking trousers into warm jogging bottoms and pulled on fleeces over our base layers. Phil had warned that the temperature would plummet as soon as the sun set, and the sun dropped like a stone at exactly twenty past six.

"I knew I'd get you in a tent one day." Sean grinned.

"Better than Wales. At least it's dry."

"For now. We might get rain or snow higher up. And it'll be freezing."

I lowered my voice to a whisper. "We can shift these bags over to one side and keep each other warm."

Author Bio:
Louise Lyons comes from a family of writers. Her mother has a number of poems published in poetry anthologies, her aunt wrote poems for the Church, and her grandmother sparked her inspiration with tales of fantasy. Louise first ventured into writing short stories at the grand old age of eight, mostly about little girls and ponies. She branched into romance in her teens, and MM romance a few years later, but none of her work saw the light of day until she discovered Fan Fiction in her late twenties.

Posting stories based on some of her favorite movies, provoked a surprisingly positive response from readers. This gave Louise the confidence to submit some of her work to publishers, and made her take her writing “hobby” more seriously.

Louise lives in the UK, about an hour north of London, with a mad Dobermann, and a collection of tropical fish and tarantulas. She works in the insurance industry by day, and spends every spare minute writing. She is a keen horse-rider, and loves to run long distance. Some of her best writing inspiration comes to her, when her feet are pounding the open road. She often races into the house afterward, and grabs pen and paper to make notes.

Louise has always been a bit of a tomboy, and one of her other great loves is cars and motorcycles. Her car and bike are her pride and joy, and she loves to exhibit the car at shows, and take off for long days out on the bike, with no one for company but herself.

The two men must work together to find the balance that brings them each the most satisfaction and happiness.

The Closet Boy #4
Chapter One
GOD, HE was tired.

Way’ra finished his shift with the broom and waved to Dalton, the nice night manager sitting at the counter at the front of the Iron Eagle Gym. “Bye, man. I’m going to check the bathrooms, and then I’ll be out of your hair.”

“Have a good night, Way. Don’t party too hard.”

Right. Because he remembered parties. The last four months had been the longest of his young life. He’d been outed, thrown out of his conservative religious college and out of his house without anything more than the clothes on his back and his wallet.

No phone. No laptop. No cash. No shoes. He’d managed to pull two hundred dollars from the ATM before his dad froze the account.

Still, he’d done it, hadn’t he? He had a job cleaning here at the Eagle, and in a month he’d have enough saved to rent a room. All he had to do was wait it out.

Well, wait it out and pray that no one noticed that someone was sleeping in one of the third-floor broom closets. So far he’d been doing it for a few months and no one was the wiser. He’d tried staying in the park, but between the snow and the cold, it had been so nasty. He’d been hoping spring would be different, but there’d been so much rain. He only had the one pair of jeans; he couldn’t show up to work with them wet.

When he’d discovered the tiny broom closet with a layer of dust on the floor, it had felt like magic, like it was meant to be. He wasn’t hurting anything. No one was staying there, and he was super careful to sneak out before one of the day managers saw him in the morning, grab his one meal of coffee and a doughnut, and hang out for a couple of hours before he showed back up to work.

He was headed up the back stairs, quiet as a mouse, when a gorgeous stud suddenly appeared at his side. The guy was tall, close to a foot bigger than him, and with the best muscles. He was wearing a pair of sweats and a T-shirt, gym bag slung over one shoulder.

“Headed up too?” Even the guy’s voice was studly—deep and growly.

“Uh. Uh-huh. Just checking supplies.” He kept his head down, his gaze forward. This man was twice his size, easily, and he wasn’t interested in a confrontation.

“Oh right, you work here. I thought I recognized you. Do you like it?” The guy was taking the stairs two at a time, but doing it slowly enough that they stayed level.

“Yes, sir. It’s a good job.” No one asked questions. No one bothered him. No one noticed him. He didn’t exist, and that was just like he wanted it.

“Good, good. This is a good place. It’s nice to know everyone is family.” It looked like this guy was going all the way up, just like he was.

“Yes, sir.” Dammit. He needed to slip into his closet. He had a dog-eared paperback he’d found in the lost-and-found and a cold Coke.

“Do you work out here too?”

God, this guy was Chatty McChatterson.

“No, sir.” Did he look like he worked out? Ever?

“You look like you could use a few sessions. Oh fuck, that was rude, I’m sorry.”

“No worries. I’ll mop harder tomorrow. Have a good evening.” Go away.

The guy gave him a sharp look. “I didn’t say I thought you were doing a bad job.”

“Yes, sir. I’m sorry. I left my… cleanser. I mean, my pad downstairs. Excuse me.”

The guy stopped and put a hand on his arm. “I’ve upset you now. I didn’t mean to. How about I buy you a cup of coffee by way of an apology?”

“Me? I’m the janitor. You don’t have to apologize.”

“I don’t believe in classes. In fact, without you, my enjoyment here at the gym would be so much less.”

The words were dear and made his cheeks heat. “Thank you. I appreciate it. Honestly.”

“Then let me buy you a coffee. There’s a shop around the corner that’s still open. You’ll be saving me from a lonely evening too.” The guy took his bag off his shoulder. “I’m stuck here for the night. They found asbestos in our building, and we’ve all been kicked out.”

“Oh no. I’m so sorry. Someone’s letting you spend the night here? That’s very cool.”

“That’s what the bunks upstairs are for. Anyone who needs the space.” The guy shouldered his bag again. “You wanna meet down at the main doors in, say, a half hour? Does that work for you?”

“I suppose so. Yes. Thank you.” He could use a cup of coffee, one with lots of sugar and cream.

The guy looked pleased. “Perfect.” Then he held out his hand. “I’m Neal.”

“I’m Way’ra.”

“Way-ra?”

“Yes. It’s tribal. Just call me Way.”

Neal shouldered open the door from the hall and leaned against it. “I like it. What does it mean?”

“A gust of wind.”

Neal looked him over and grinned. “You look like a good gust of wind would knock you right over.”

“You’re not the first person to say that to me.”

“And here I thought I was being all original and suave.” Neal chuckled. “I look forward to our coffee and doing a better job of it.”

“Yes, sir. Thanks for the invitation.” He headed back downstairs, not sure whether to hide out in one of the bathrooms for a little while or what.

He couldn’t believe he was seriously considering this, having coffee with a perfect stranger. More than that—a stranger from the gym.

Neal had been kind, though. Nice. With warm eyes. Plus the guy was hot.

Stop it, Way. You’re a skinny homeless idiot with absolutely no future. You don’t get to date hot guys.

He was going to get the coffee, though. Because it would be stupid to turn down anything free. He would have to keep reminding himself that it wasn’t a date.

It was a free cup of coffee with a whole lot of sugar.

The Dom's Way #5
Chapter One
“COME ON, boy.” Neal’s hand was warm and solid on the small of his back. “Robin and the others are waiting for us.”

Way’ra looked at his lover. The huge, muscle-bound blond looked altogether too pleased with himself, really. They were heading into the Iron Eagle to apologize for Way’s utter meltdown at work yesterday.

He’d been hoping to only suck up to his bosses—Jude and Day—not to the men from the third floor.

“It’s going to be fine. They’re going to understand you were freaked out and that you’ve got a safeword now, and they’ll be happy to honor it.”

“I’ll be right down to work,” he promised Day.

Day waved one hand. “Your shift doesn’t start until noon, Way.”

“There, see? You’re not shirking work or anything to do this.” Neal kissed the tip of his nose. “How is that plug treating you?”

“Neal!” It was weird enough to be wearing one, but to talk about it?

“Yes, love?” Neal looked like everything was normal. Like talking about that was normal.

“Shh.” There. That was clear, right?

“What?” Neal asked. “You haven’t answered my question yet.” Neal led him to the stairwell and they headed up to the second floor.

“I don’t have to wear it to work, do I?”

“You don’t think it would enhance your day?” Neal looked and sounded like he was totally serious.

“It’ll be… so big. So… in me.”

“In you is kind of the point, love.” Neal’s eyes twinkled at him.

“Shh. Be nice. Maybe Robin isn’t here yet.”

Neal chuckled. “Meanwhile, you still haven’t answered my question. How is that plug treating you?”

“You can’t ask those sorts of things, love.”

“Of course I can—I just did.”

He shook his head, his cheeks feeling like they were on fire.

Neal stopped him in the stairwell, tilted his chin, and took a kiss, tongue slipping into his mouth. “I love you. And I want to know how the plug feels inside you.”

“It’s really there. Like pressing on my hole. I’m worried it’ll fall out.”

“You have underwear and jeans to make sure that doesn’t happen. But I think you’ll keep it in under your own power.”

“I can’t believe we’re talking about this. This is where I work.” He wanted to curl into Neal and hide.

“Well, there’s no one around, and this isn’t just any place.” Neal hugged him tight. “Given what goes on here, I don’t think a little conversation about a plug is going to shock anyone.”

Way gave in to temptation and snuggled in. How on earth had he ended up here—on the run from parents who believed he was going to Hell for kissing a boy to working for a gym with a gay BDSM clientele?

He knew his parents would say he’d lost his way entirely, but he liked to think he’d gotten lucky.

“You ready to go find Robin, love?”

“No, but it’ll be better to do it.” He’d messed up badly. Robin and his lover? Master? Top? Dom? Robin and Stack had been having a scene on the second floor, and Way had shorted out—embarrassing both himself and Robin.

“It’s not going to be bad. Not like you clearly think it is. I think Stack and Robin are worried that they upset you so badly.” Neal took his hand and they headed into the gym on the second floor.

“Not to mention Tide.” Master Tide was… intimidating.

“He’s not mad at you either, I swear.”

“I hope not. I wasn’t trying to be an ass.”

“I wasn’t either,” said a voice from behind them. And Way turned to find Master Tide right there.

Oh God. Okay. Okay, breathe. “I’m so sorry. I was scared and stupid and I didn’t mean to do anything wrong. I’m… I’m very new. Like the newest. Like no one’s ever been so new.”

Tide chuckled and put a hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have to apologize, kid. I’m sorry we involved you in something you weren’t ready for. I wish we’d known, you know?”

“Well, Way has a safeword now, and he knows he can use it if a situation like that comes up again.”

“Yeah? That’s awesome. What is it?” Tide asked.

“Asparagus.” He blinked up, knowing he had to be red as a beet. “It was my first…. I never was trying to be friends with anyone before, you know?” He wanted to be friends with Lance, with Robin.

Tide’s smile was warm. “Next time I’ll be more gentle, I promise.” Tide gave him a wink.

Next time?

Neal clapped Tide on the shoulder. “You get it, I know.”

“I do. My boy was very new not all that long ago. You couldn’t find a better friend than my Lance. I know the two of you work out together sometimes.”

“Only on my breaks or after work with Day’s permission. I promise.” He wouldn’t jeopardize his job for anything.

“I wasn’t implying you were shirking your job, kid. Take a breath, huh? You’re not in trouble,” Tide told him.

“I’m going to speak to Day. You deserve to use the facilities.”

“Oh, Neal. I’m fine.”

“Of course you are, but you deserve to use the facilities,” Neal repeated. “I’m talking to Day.”

“You don’t need to talk to Day,” Tide said. “As an employee of the gym, you totally have use of the facilities, and as the submissive of a member also.”

“Doubly validated!” Neal looked pleased.

Way hid his face in Neal’s arm, and both Neal and Tide chuckled softly.

“Robin and Stack are working out. And by that I mean actually working out.” Tide grinned.

“Excellent. Come on, boy. Let’s go speak to them.”

“Okay. Yeah. Let’s do this.” Way took a deep breath. He didn’t suppose there was any reason to delay.

Neal took his hand again and led him into the second-floor gym, and then across to where Robin and Stack were using the equipment.

Every inch of Robin’s body that he could see was shaved bare. All of it. Head. Eyebrows. All of it. Way’s cheeks burned, and he didn’t know where to look.

Robin smiled and waved at him but didn’t stop working out until Stack did and signaled to Robin to stop.

Then Robin bounced right over to where they were standing. “Hi, Way! And Master Neal.”

“Hello, Robin. You look quite striking. Doesn’t he, Way?” Neal asked.

He looked at the collar of Robin’s shirt, absolutely unable to meet Robin’s eyes. “Yes. I’m sorry about yesterday, Robin.”

“Oh, honey.” Robin came right up to him and grabbed his hands. “I’m sorry we upset you.”

“I….” Then he could look at Robin because Robin wanted to be his friend, and he wanted that too. He grabbed Robin and hugged him tight.

Robin hugged him right back, holding on for a long moment. Then he leaned and looked at Way. “Are you okay, honey?”

“I was so…. I mean, I’d never seen. Never.” He knew he was babbling, but he couldn’t stop.

“It was pretty intense, wasn’t it?” Robin fanned himself. “God, I was flying. Just flying.” Robin glanced over at Stack, the look… incendiary.

“I was a little scared for you,” Way admitted.

“Scared for me?”

He looked over at Stack, then whispered, “The… the… the dildo was so big and then… I saw. I’m so sorry, but I looked and I saw everything.”

Robin preened a little. “Did I look good?”

“You looked amazing.” And that was the truth. Terrifying and overwhelming, but amazing.

“Good.” Robin hugged him again. “I wouldn’t have minded if you’d stayed, but I can totally understand not wanting to, especially without your master.”

“I… I’m not used to… I never even knew that… you know? This?” He was still babbling.

Neal slid his arm around Way’s shoulders, and he pulled Way against his strong, warm body. It was comforting. “Way and I haven’t made an official Master/sub commitment yet. But we have discussed that Way’s participation in any of the things that go on here must also include me.”

“Of course. I meant no disrespect, Master Neal.”

Stack growled low in his chest. “Of course you didn’t. Who is the master here?”

Robin shivered. “You, Sir.”

Neal chuckled. “That was rather the point from the other day’s display, hmm?”

“It was. Someone had quite forgotten who was the master and who made the rules here.”

Master Stack sounded so… mean.

Robin cuddled into him, though, nuzzling against the big man. “That would be you, Master. And I love the way you reminded me.”

Stack’s hand wrapped around Robin’s hip, fingers pressing into his ass, and the stern man nodded, cracking a smile.

“Are you feeling better about what happened yesterday?” Neal asked.

Way nodded and tried to smile. He was, he thought. Mostly.

Neal snorted softly. “That wasn’t terribly convincing, love.”

“I’m sorry. Yes. I am. And I’m super sorry. I was stupid. I won’t do it again.” That had to be better, because he was back to mortified, and he wanted to hide in the bathroom for a few minutes now.

Neal shook his head. “Not the apology—the you feeling better about the situation, and I don’t think you are.”

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” growled Stack. “You’re just really, uh, innocent.”

“I am. No one ever told me men did this sort of thing.” Only demons and sinners.

“Well, we do. And we like it. I know you like it too. But I get that it might be overwhelming. You two want to play with me and Robin sometime, you let us know,” Stack offered.

Way managed a shaky smile and a nod. “I have to get to work, I think. Thank you both, really.” He knew he had three hours, but maybe Neal had forgotten.

“Work? Not until noon today, love. There’s plenty of time for us to talk, work out, whatever.”

“Oh, right.” He went for an apologetic smile. “Excuse me a second. I have to use the restroom.”

Neal leaned in and whispered into his ear, “Don’t run away for long.”

He patted Neal’s arm, nodded, then scampered off to hide himself, wash his face, and maybe have a little cry. When he got to the bathroom, though, Robin was there with him.

“You really okay, honey?”

“Uh-huh.” He shook his head.

“No, you’re not, huh? You wanna talk about it? Have you got questions? You’re a sub like me, I could help you with stuff. Just talk, whatever.”

“I’m just…. I didn’t know what to think.”

Robin walked him into a quiet little lounge that he’d only cleaned maybe once or twice. It was dim and padded, a simple place with overstuffed everything. “This is our space, huh? Somewhere away from the chaos.”

“Our space?”

“A quiet space for submissives. Masters aren’t allowed here.” Robin rubbed his back with a warm hand. “You can talk to me about anything, honey.”

“Were you scared?”

“Me?” Robin seemed surprised by his question. “No, not at all. I trust my master completely. And it was pretty damn hot.”

“But… it had to be so…. He shaved your eyebrows, Robin, and whipped your hole!” And it had excited Way, which was worse.

Robin shared a conspiratorial grin with him. “He did! God, it was so hot.” Robin shivered, and he was getting hard as they talked about it, the bulge in his tight workout shorts unmistakable.

“It seems so… impossible.”

“Now you know it isn’t, because you saw it happening. And that’s what masters do—make the impossible happen.”

“I don’t know how to…. I mean, I’m so worried, you know.”

“God yes.” Robin hugged him again. “I totally know.”

Robin did? But he seemed so… with it.

“The trick is to give your worry to your master. Let him take it.”

“Why did you let him do that to you? Why did you let Tide do it?” That was what he wanted to know—why.

“Because it let me forget about everything but him. It let me relax. It totally put me in my subspace.”

“Am I supposed to know about that?” Way asked. God, he was a baby.

“Not if you and your master—I mean Neal—haven’t discussed it. Subspace is… this mind-set where you can let absolutely everything go and just be. It rocks. It’s peaceful and warm and wonderful.”

“But… how? I hate feeling like I’m slow and stupid. I haven’t done anything and I… I just… I want to understand.”

“I think it’s cool that you’re trying to learn.” Robin pressed closer. “Where do you want to start?”

“I don’t know where the beginning is, Robin. Help me?” He wanted to be a part of this.

“Well, you have a master and a boy, and you have that with Master Neal. You’re definitely more boy material than master material.”

“Yes. That seems to take a lot of… intention.” And stubbornness.

“Being a master?” Robin shrugged. “I like being a sub. We’re all different, and we’re all suited to different things.”

“Yes.” That he understood. Sometimes he wished he knew what he was suited to do, to be, but he was willing to be patient, to wait.

“Master Stack helps me be a better version of me. He helps me concentrate and not be flighty. And the sex is amazing.” Robin grinned at him. “And sometimes he needs to remember that he’s the master. Sometimes he needs me to push him so he can let himself breathe again.”

Way stared at Robin. “But….”

“You think the sub isn’t strong? Doesn’t have power? We so do, Way. It’s a partnership, even if it looks one-sided from the outside. It totally isn’t.” Robin rubbed his palm over his bald head. “I let him be strong, like he lets me submit. I take more than I ever thought I could, and I like it.”

“What do you mean… take more?” That sounded kind of ominous.

“You saw me riding that dildo, honey. I know you did.”

Way swallowed hard and nodded.

“As wide as I was stretched, begging for the whippings in between, pushed me further.”

Oh God. God. He was going to…. “I’m going to get hard,” he whispered.

“Good! I felt strong and hot and sexy. I would be upset if you saw me and weren’t turned on. I like knowing he made me shine like that, he made me so arousing, as well as aroused.”

“I think I need to go see Neal. I need to…. I’m not mad at you.” No, he was hard and aching and wanting and he couldn’t work like this.

Robin gave him a knowing smile and another hug. “I know you think you’re new at this and that maybe you aren’t doing well, but you have all the right instincts—going to your master to deal with your hard-on is totally the right thing to do.”

“You don’t think I’m stupid?”

“No. I think you got dropped in the ocean and you’re swimming. Let Neal rescue you.” Robin hugged him again, then urged him to get up and go. “In a lot of ways, I envy you—you have everything in front of you still. Do me a favor and enjoy all of it.”

“Are we still friends?”

“We are. Go on. I bet, if Neal asks nicely, you might get the day off.”

“Oh no. I can’t do that.” But wouldn’t it be nice?

“Not you—your master. Either way—go!” Robin laughed, pushing him out the door.

Neal was in the hallway, chatting with Day and Tide and Stack, and Way stood there, hoping his lover would notice him.

Neal looked over at him and smiled, the look lighting up Neal’s entire face, making him look so happy. Neal signaled to him to come over.

He headed to Neal, one hand carefully hiding his erection. “Neal.”

Neal’s arm went around his shoulders, pulling him into the protection of Neal’s arms and body. “Hey, love.” Then Neal spoke to the others. “I think we’re going to go upstairs, guys.”

Tide, Day, and Stack chuckled, but the sound wasn’t mean. Still, Way knew they knew what they were going to do.

“Upstairs?” Oh. God, he wanted Neal.

“Yeah. I imagine no one is using the dorms?” Neal aimed that at Day, who nodded.

“They should be private.”

“Good. I need one—” Neal paused. “—for a while.”

Way felt his cheeks go so hot, but the others all nodded and smiled.

“There’s a Do Not Disturb sign,” Stack noted. “As long as it’s not on the door too long, you can use it.”

“Or you could go home,” Day suggested. “I know you’re not far, and then you can take as long as you need.”

“I have work at noon,” Way said.

“Take the day off, boy. You keep the place brutally clean. It’ll be fine missing a day.”

“But—”

Neal’s hand covered his mouth. “Thank you, Day. I appreciate the time.”

Day chuckled softly while Stack and Tide laughed out loud.

Keeping his mouth covered, Neal walked him to the stairwell, only letting go when they got there.

“Never argue with the boss when he gives you the day off, love.”

“I just…. I didn’t want him to think that… I’m so….” Confused. Hard. Aching.

“I think he thought you needed a day off to process everything. And he was willing to give it to you.”

They went down the stairs and headed home.

He could feel the plug moving inside him, his cock aching in his jeans.

Neal’s hand slid down his back and landed on his ass. He scooted forward, his entire body going tight.

“Where are you going?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know anything right now.”

“You need me to love the confusion away.”

They turned the corner to their street and Neal put an arm around his shoulders again, tugging him close.

“I talked to Robin.” A lot.

“Yeah? What about?”

“Uh. Stuff? Sex stuff?” He was going to burn alive.

“Master and sub stuff?” Neal asked as they walked to the front door.

“Uh-huh.” He chewed his bottom lip, making it sting.

“Did he help you understand stuff?” They went in, and it seemed so normal, so much like home.

Neal drew him over to the couch in the den and they sat together. Neal faced him. “Well, love?”

“He said that I had good instincts and that I should let you help me.”

“Robin’s a good sub. I guess one of the questions should be: Are you interested in being my sub?” Neal put a hand on his thigh.

“I want to learn about things—about these things.”

“And I’d like to teach you.” Neal cupped his cheek, thumb rubbing across his lips. Then, leaning in, Neal kissed him. The connection was sudden and fierce, sparking between them, and he gasped. Whoa.

Neal tugged at Way’s clothing, pulling his shirt out of his pants. Neal’s strong fingers played over the skin of his belly. His abs tightened and that moved the plug inside him. Every move he made stimulated him, both inside and out.

Pushing his shirt up over his head, Neal undressed him. Every move Neal made also stimulated him, aroused him.

Thank God they were home, here, safe and in private.

Neal pressed his thumbs against Way’s nipples, moved them back and forth, and it didn’t take any time at all before they started to ache, to tingle.

Leaning over him, Neal kissed him, pressing him down onto the couch.

He wasn’t sure why Neal was so excited, but he knew why he was, and he moaned into Neal’s mouth. Neal’s moan answered his, the sounds merging together. Like their bodies were trying to. He arched up to meet the pressure of Neal’s body.

“Needy boy.” Neal muttered the words into Way’s mouth, and Way nodded. God yes. He always needed with Neal, and today he was revved up from talking with Robin, from thinking about what had happened to Robin yesterday.

Neal dragged his hand along Way’s side, fingers leaving tingles behind them. He stretched into the touch, his toes clenching as he did. Oh, so good. So hot. And so much easier than talking.

Neal rubbed their groins together, and he could feel the heat and hardness of Neal’s cock against his, denim all that separated them. He nudged the heavy cock as he tried to get to Neal’s belt buckle.

That had Neal groaning and pushing harder against him. “Love your touch.”

That made him shiver, that it was just his touch that made Neal hard.
