๐Ÿ’ปBlogger Review๐Ÿ’ป: Star Wars The High Republic Phase 1 Vol. 2 - The Heart of Drengir by Cavan Scott

Summary:

Collects Star Wars: The High Republic (2021) #6-10.

As the galaxy prepares to celebrate the Republic Fair on Valo, a fierce battle rages in the depths of Wild Space - and the Jedi of Starlight Beacon must join forces with their most feared enemy to face the terror of the unstoppable Drengir horde! And as Avar Kriss and her new allies fight nightmarish creatures on a harsh lava world, young Jedi Keeve Trennis puts everything on the line to save her former master from the darkness! Meanwhile, who - or what - is the Great Progenitor? And will the Jedi find other forces at work on the Drengir's deathworld? Plus: The villainous Nihil may be in retreat…but they cast a long shadow! Guest-starring Cohmac Vitus, Reath Silas and Orla Jareni, Jedi Wayseeker, from the blockbuster novel Star Wars: The High Republic - Into the Dark!

Blogger Note: This is the first time I've ventured into The High Republic timeframe in any form so I can't speak to it's connection to anything before these graphic novel collection nor any connection to the new Disney series, The Acolyte, so I'll just review as is. (EDITED NOTE: I have since discovered the chronological order and that I have read a couple out of that order. However, like the movies long as you are able to read a particular story arc together the rest isn't that important, just something to keep in mind.)

The story continues on and is just as good as the first collection.

Watching Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis grow stronger in her role in the order while still balancing her fears and doubts is still just as fresh and fitting as it was in Volume 1.  Her want to help her former master Jedi Sskeer and her need to aid her fellow Jedi(and a few unexpected non-Jedi allies) in their battle with the Drengir is just another step in her journey but also shows how and perhaps why attachments are forbidden in the order.

We get to see the Nihil apparently return although this is my first introduction to the marauders.  An interesting and intriguing foe that I look forward to discovering more about but as I am not familiar with the Nihil or their history I can speak to any tie-ins to previous appearances.

On to Volume 3.
